    2. Lockheed QF-104A Starfighter for Strike Fighters 2

The QF-104A was a special modified version of the (Y)F-104A Star-fighter which could be flown remotely controlled. The control was done by F-104 pilots on the ground or inside another aircraft.
The conversion of the (Y)F-104A to QF-104A was approved on 19 Februar 1960 by the USAF. Testing of the QF was conducted during the period of 9 Januar 1961 to 16 October 1961.
The reason for converting the (Y)F-104A was the need for high altitude, high mach targets for the development of ground-to-air (BOMARC) and air-to-air (AIM7 - AIM9 - GAR2B - MB1 - AIM4) missiles.
At the end of the summer in 1972 the QF-104 drone program had come to an end and the F-104D's were handed over to the Puerto Rice ANG which could use them very well. All of the personnel that were in the QF-104 program were reassigned to other duties and bases.
In total 24 QF-104's have been used by the USAF. Twenthy of them were actually killed as targets and 1 crashed while flying a manned mission. The pilot ejected safely.
What has happened to the other 3 aircraft is not known but it is very likely that they have been withdrawn from use.
In total the drone-flight has accomplished 162 unmanned missions. Most of the QF mission were flown at Eglin AFB. However, some were flown at Holloman AFB (NewMexico) and a small number at Point Mugu NAS in California (for the US NAVY).

The QF-104A were of course different from the normal 104’s.
The most important modifications/changes included (in reality there are a lot more...) :

      1 - The QF-104A received anti-skid brakes.
      2 - A smoke-generator was applied (JP-4 pumped into the exhaust).
3 - Remote control system to fly the aircraft unmanned.
4 - A dayglow paintscheme was applied. It was an “eyecatcher”.
Originally the aircraft serial numbers were painted white. This was unsatisfactory as they were not highly visible against the dayglow. For that reason they were changed to black lateron.
5 - A special system which is able to make in flight air-starts remotely. In fact several were successfully made over the years.
6 - Due to the high-rate of stall problems with the GE J79 3A engines the QF was repowered by the 3B version of this engine. This solved the stall-problems.
7 - A self-destruction device was mounted on the QF for emergency reasons. This device was remotely controlled
8 - A changed cockpit layout to support all typical QF-104 systems.
9 - Additional gun-bay and case storage fuel tanks.
10 - Optical (5) camera scoring system. Three camera’s were located in the nose radome and 2 could be found inside the left external fueltank.

      Pilot Notes:

The default nation for this plane is USAF "friendly plane".
Inside the QF-104A there is a folder named "For Mescalero Proving Grounds", if you want to use this aircraft with that mod simply replace the data.ini file. Now it will be a "red" target. :'(

      Installation:

Simply copy all the files in the respective directory of your game folder.

    4. SF2 HAF F-4E_SRA

      Short History:

During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Greece played a secondary role with its Hellenic Navy Kortenaer Frigate 'Elli'.
As a gesture of gratitude, the Bush Administration supplied the HAF with, among other equipment, a further 28 refurbished and upgraded F-4Es, Which came from the Indiana ANG's 113th and 163rd Tactical Figher Wings.
The ex-ANG models, knows as South Eastern Regional Amendament (SRA) among the Greek crews, were aging but extremely capable aircrafts.
All the F-4E_SRA were passed to 338 Squadron, which expanded its air-to-ground role.
During the HAF Peace Icarus 2000 program, all the F-4E_SRA from the 338 squadron were transferred to the 337 squadron.
In 2004 with the defence budget cuts, a number of fighters were withdrawn - including the 26 remaining F-4E_SRA Phantoms.
The last flight of the 337 squadron's SRA Phantom took place on May 29, 2006 when squadron commander Lt Col. Theodoros Syrmos deliverd his aircraft to Mikra Internation Airport, Thessaloniki for storage.

This is for SF2 merged install.

    5. This is my F-4E_90_NZ Fictional mod for all Merged SF2 games and any Standalone game that includes ThirdWire’s stock F-4E_78.

Inspired by Spinner’s F-4M_89_NZ I decided to have an F-4E RNZAF mod. I had a Kiwi F-4E mod already right from the start but never uploaded it. Mr. DTM Dragon has uploaded a mod previously and many of these skins can be adapted to work with his mod if you want. However because most of the skins in this mod are new I have decided to upload and share. Over half the skins are from Sundowner and the rest by myself on ThirdWire’s templates and Sundowners templates. Decals are stock and Spinners and some by me.

To install just extract and copy and paste the Aircraft Folder into the Aircraft Folder and Decals into Decals Folder.

I have restricted the loadout a little, RNZAF is only small so not a large weapons arsenal. However if the RNZAF deployed overseas in a combat role we would most likely get supplies from American, Britain and even Australia. So you can tinker there if you want.

I have added Mercenary skins as well. They are Generic so you can mod those skins into any Air Force you want. They are fictional and are purely for fun.

Plus another Easter Egg Folder. One to go straight into F-4_78 folder and the other into the F-4D_78 stock folders, decals are all generic.

Thanks to TK and ThirdWire for the great game and sim.

      To CombatAce for this Forum.

      To Sundowner and Spinners.

      This is a Freeware mod.

    6. Spinners F-4M_89_NZ.

      Modified by James Fox 12/04/2011.

Added addional SKins by Sundowner reworked by me to fit the stock F-4M_75 Thirdwire model and some by me plus a little tinkering here and there.

Decals by Spinners and some by me and the rest by ThirWire.

      This is Freeware mod.

Very big thanks to Sundowner and Spinners for this mod to which I have only just added too and expanded a little.

      Plus to ThirdWire and CombatAce.

PS. The contents of the Easter Egg Folder must go into the Stock ThirdWire SF2 F-4M_75 Folder, uses stock decals. This a bonus for those who do not want RNZAF aircraft.

I have used Spinners ReadMe, well what can I do it is perfect.

      SPINNERS README:------------------------------------------------------------

McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4M_89 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE AND FULL MERGED INSTALLS.

This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Phantom FGR.2 (F-4M_75) to give a fictional 'Kiwi' Phantom
with markings for No.2 squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force as they might have appeared during
      the 1990's.

      BACKSTORY

During the build up to Operation Corporate (the UK's military operation to retake the Falkland Islands) the UK
Government were overwhelmed at the support given by the countries of the Commonwealth and, in particular,
the response of the Australian and New Zealand Governments who provided ships to maintain the UK's NATO
commitments and thus allow the Royal Navy to maximise the number of ships it could send to the South Atlantic.

In the following years there were many reciprocal deals made and favours given to the Commonwealth nations
(and even Chile!) and one such 'favour' was the transfer of 18 ex-RAF Phantom FGR.2's in 1988. The 18 FGR.2's,
only recently withdrawn from RAF service, were ferried out to New Zealand (most still in their dirty grey camo
scheme) during Operation Saddleback before arriving at Ohakea for refurbishment by a joint McDonnell Douglas
/RNZAF team that saw the aircraft eventually emerge in a new 'Forest' style camo scheme and with digital INAS,
upgraded RWR and new outer wing panels. Entering service with No.2 squadron in early 1989 (supposedly as the
Karearea but they were always simply called Phantoms) the aircraft gave good service to the Royal New Zealand
Air Force during the 1990's until finally being retired in December 2001 when, indeed, all 'Air Combat Force'
aircraft were sadly withdrawn from service.

      INSTRUCTIONS

      1. Drop the F-4M_89_NZ folder into your Aircraft folder.

      2. Drop the SUU-23G folder into your Weapons folder.

      2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

Do not just move the folder! You must empty the contents in.

      CREDITS

BIG THANKS to TK for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.

And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

    7. This is a fictional Belgium Air Force A-4F for SF2 series. This model uses ThirdWire’s SF2 series A-4F_74 model so if you do not have ThirdWire’s A-4F_74 it will not work. I have a full Merged install and have no problems. The mode uses Generic decals already in game. I have not created Squadron markings or serial numbers. I really have no idea what they could have been or where they may have appeared on the aircraft. I have included decal address on the model using stock ThirdWire decals where I think they could have appeared. Feel free to add your own and upload if you wish.

Sometime back a Belgium member posted a short post on how the Belgium Air Force looked at the A-4 but did not purchase A-4’s. So this is my Fictional mode of one.

To install just extract the Zip folder and copy and paste the A-4F_74_BAF into your Aircraft Folder and go fly. Again the mode uses stock everything except the skins.

Thanks to ThirdWire for the game which every year gets better and to CombatAce for the forum to Upload this Mode too.

This Mode is Freeware and I have really only created the skins and you are free to mode as you wish.

    8. MDD F-4D Phantom II, 110th TFS, 11th TFW, Republic of Korea Air Force, Taegu, from beginning 1969

After some hard negotiating during 1968, ROKAF was given 18 F-4D aircraft in return for agreeing to transfer 36 on-loan F-5A/B aircraft (which ROKAF did not greatly appreciate in any case) to RVNAF. These aircraft were used by 110 Tactical Fighter Squadron, and supplemented by further deliveries over the years, remained in service with 110 and 151 TFS, 11th TFW until 2010. They retained their SEA camouflage at least into the 1980s.

Serial numbers were simply based on the USAF serials, with the initial '6' removed - so the first aircraft delivered, USAF 64-0931, became ROKAF 40-931 and so forth.

To the best of my knowledge, they did not participate in the Vietnam War, although given the Republic of Korea's considerable contribution to supporting South Vietnam, it is a reasonable what-if...
