SF2  Grumman F9F-6/7/8 Cougar Update/Upgrade Pack                             7/2/2026

-For SF2 =ONLY= (Full/5 Merged Recommended)

This is a major upgrade/update for Pasko's F9F-6/7/8 Cougar US Navy and Marines jet fighter. If you have any other earlier versions, you're advised to move, remove/delete or rename =BOTH= the aircraft and decals folders in your SF2 install(s). As you can see, I've used the 6/7/8 to describe the aircraft, as it actually has particulars for all 3 marks. See Notes below for description of the differences between the 3 marks.

You'll be getting a bunch of skins, almost all the 'originals' I've found have been updated and/or repainted to take advantage of decaling corrections. Plus, a couple of NEW skins as well!! Skins remain in bmp format.  In squadron numerical order ---

VF-43 Challengers (Gull Grey/White <1956)
VF-51 Screaming Eagles (Dark Gloss Navy Blue, F9F-6, 1954)
VF-61 Jolly Rogers (early, DGNB, F9F-7, >1956)
VF-61 Jolly Rogers (late, GG/W, F9F-8, <1956)
VF-81 Crusaders (DGNB, F9F-8B 1955)
VMF-114 Death Dealers (DGNB, F9F-8 1955-57)
VMA-533 Hawks (GG/W, F9F-8B <1957)
"No Name" just a Plane Jane Blank GG/W for other skinners
and finally,
The Blue Angels (F8F-6/8 1955-56)

As can be seen above, the SF2 date switch is active, as these aircraft served during the change from Dark Gloss Navy Blue to the Gull Grey and White schemes. The texture set ini for all skins has a small note about each squadron's service history. Most markings, excepting those squadron color bands requiring to be painted on, are decals. Decal randomization is TRUE. Any Modex numbers seen on the list with a star (*) have been matched to their corresponding Bureau Number. All other BuNums should be considered 'generic' in nature. Non historically, I've given the Blues 8 numbers (7 was a TV2 Shooting Star, and later a 2 seater TF9F, and 8 was an R7V Constellation). Any squadrons listed in the game's squadron list ini, have had their 'displayed name' activated by my patent pending "fake SqTail" decal. Mostly complete templates are included; they are in the 'z-store' folder within the main aircraft's folder. Enhance to your heart's content!!

Most weapons used are stock in-game items, as are the sounds referenced. The cockpit used is a slight modified version of the stock A-4B Skyhawk. The included drop tank remains in a 'nearly gull grey' even on the blue aircraft. As the -8B was capable of delivery of 'special weapons', the Mk.12 14kt device is included. The inner pylons have been split into 2 groups to allow for the device and a drop tank.

The canopy, unfortunately, doesn't open. However, the wing fold IS active, and uses it's Standard Animation keystroke, Shift/9,  but =PLEASE!!!= try not to use it. There is a major fault with how they move. See Notes for further enlightenments. An SF2 version of my original 1stGen "Box Art" hangar screen, and a new Loading screen are both included for your enjoyment.

As is always recommended, unzip to a temp folder or your desktop to give easy access to the rest of this readme for it's install instructions. PLEASE read them, before installing!!!
Please read the Notes section for any other useless bits of information, the change log, and (hopefully) full credits. The 2 original read mes from 2005 are in the main aircraft folder.
Please also take note of changes in the Standard Disclaimer in the "Legal BS" section at the bottom.

Happy Landings!
