I've brought this over from SimHQ as it seems to be the new hub of the SF community. I'll be updating this thread only but if you do want to see the posts in the SimHQ thread it's here:

I've put together a list of where we are up to with aircraft used by the Israeli Air Force and IAF skins. My sources for the list were the IAF website and numerous books from my personal library, notably Bill Gunston's excellent Illustrated Guide to the Israeli Air Force (Salamander 1982) and Bill Norton's essential Air War On The Edge (Midland 2004).

Here's the list. Sorry about the spacing - I copied an excel spreadsheet. I'll try to keep it updated as and when new aircraft, skins and other IDF\AF related mods appear.

Please feel free to post your IAF related pics or comments.

List updated 25 March 2008:

There's an interesting question--would they do that with the F-22 if they got them? IIRC, the F-22's paint itself is special, and Israel wouldn't be able to just use the same paint they use on their other planes without compromising some of the stealth qualities.

The Israeli version of the Super Mystere is out. It's called Sa'ar (Tempest) and is powered by the PWJ52-P-8A rather than the Atar engine of the original Super Mystere B2- thanks to ErikGen and his team.

For the mission planners (and terrain gurus) I came across this study of a potential Israeli strike on the Iranian nuclear program. It doesn't look at the political side of things in any detail, but considers whether such a strike would be militarily feasible. The conclusion is that a combined strike package of 25 F-15I's and 25 F-16I's armed with precision penetrating weapons could do it. What do you guys think, and could we create such a large scale map encompassing the Mediterranean to the Iran/Afghan border in the Thirdwire games anyway?

Osirak Redux? Assessing Israeli Capabilities to Destroy Iranian Nuclear Facilities

Abstract

Does Israel have the ability to conduct a military attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities similar to its 1981 strike on Iraq’s Osirak reactor? The Israeli Air Force has significantly upgraded its equipment since the early 1980s, but the Iranian nuclear complex is a much harder target than was the Osirak reactor. Iran has three facilities that are critical for nuclear weapons production: a uranium conversion facility, an enrichment facility, and a heavy-water production plant and associated plutonium production reactor. This article analyzes possible interactions of Israel’s improved air force, including the addition of F-15I aircraft and U.S.-supplied conventional “bunker-buster” precision-guided munitions, with the Iranian target set and air defense systems. It concludes that Israel has the capability to attack Iran’s nuclear infrastructure with at least as much confidence as it had in the 1981 Osirak strike. Beyond the case of Iran, this finding has implications for the use of precision-guided weapons as a counterproliferation tool. Precision-guided weapons confer the ability to reliably attack hard and deeply buried targets with conventional, rather than nuclear, weapons. Intelligence on the location of nuclear sites is thus the primary limiting factor of military counterproliferation.

Thanks Jim. Just added it to the fictional skins list.

IMHO it would be something the Israelis could really make use of in reality. Not for an all out fight with the Syrians or Iranians, but over Gaza or Lebanon the combination of accurate sensors and devastating concentrated firepower would be a real bonus. Does anyone know how the USAF versions are doing over Iraq and Afghanistan?

I have to get the serials done for the D and any aircraft nose names I can find. I just had a B given to me made from the D so I think that is two you can scratch off of your list soon.

Vautour is still in the works, 3 models A,B and D. FM is the big holdup right now. I think the pic from the 6 Day war or OP MOKED with the IDF aircraft of different types in formation can be done soon.

List updated. Thanks a lot guys.

Sag, do the B & D have CFTs?

I think that there are some in the weapons pack (created for the first version of the F-15C?) but I'm not sure they were actually implemented. I think the IAF do use them though.

Allen, only the Sufa, the I model has the CFT's, the B and D models don't use them so far. That is for the IDFAF anyway.

No, I was talking about the F-15B & D, not the F-16B & D.

I'm sure I've seen pics of them with CFT's like the F-15E & F-15I.
