Russian version sparrow really exist, his name is K-25 (R-25). In 1967 some A-7E was captured in N Vietnam, missiles were transfered to USSR, and in 1972-1974 Soviet AF succesfuly testing R-25 on MIG-23, but R-25 was back-up for R-23 project. And R-23 get more good accuracy and CM rejection, it was be cause R-23 use monoimpulse scaning. Russian military specialist also say, what R-23 more good to AIM-7F, and only AIM-7M/P was more good that R-23 with Noise/CM rejection.

R-3R mean SAHM version of R-3 missile -like AIM-9C. It had been used on some MiG-21/23

Ummm... How was an A-7 captured with Aim-7s loaded? They couldn't use them. The air to air ability didn't go past the Aim-9 capability.

Depends on if they Captured just the A-7E, or maybe they got a few Phantoms also. I didnt realize the Soviets captured any US aircraft intact during Vietnam, but i guess you learn something new everyday. Now i gotta try to google it and see what it says LOL!

I know detals of aim-7e capture : One Phantom was shoot down near Hayfon, and get enmergency landing on water, deep is small, then all aim-7 where captured whitout serious damage...

S'all good. I know after Vietnam the Soviets got their hands on a whole bunch of US equipment. Mostly aircraft like A-1 Skyraiders, F-5A/Bs, AC-47 and mostly whatever was in the South's inventory at the time. But they also scored quite a bit of booty when the Shah was overthrown too...

No. This is an R-3R, radar guided short range air to air.

Because from what I've heard, the subsequent republic and the Soviets were not very good friend. Far from it...

No, they weren't. However, in the early days before things really solidified there's the likelihood they at least were around to examine some of it.

That's where Russia got a tomcat from. I'm quite surprised they didn't carbon copy either her or the F-4 like with the missiles and Tu-4

IIRC, the 21PF is set to use 2 IR and 2 SAHM Atolls in it's loadout ini. Double check the loadouts threads in the KB.

Sorry, but MiG-21PF Can't Use R-3R, this missile start in service in september 1967, first plane who can use it was MiG-21S, later it was use on SM,SMT etc.

PF, FL, M modifications can use R-2US BEAM RIDER ONLY, PFM planned to use R-3R but, creation this missile was so long and PFM fly whithout R-3R.

This missile was used on the MiG-21bis along with the AA-8
