Issue with Wide Sky and new patch...maybe

Recommended Posts

I've installed Wide Sky and the new Sept patch to WOE. This is what I get when it's overcast:

sky2.jpg

The pics are with the new Black Sea Terrain, but it does it on all terrains.

Any ideas?

Anyone else seeing this, or did I screw something up somewhere along the way?

I re-read the read-me (say that 3 times fast), and it did mention clipping issues, but I don't remember them being this bad pre-patch.

Which graphics card you are on?

I see similar issues using an Intel X3100 graphics chip. It's usually not bad unless I'm close to the cloud layer.

And if I ever update the driver, all hell breaks loose with the canopy reflections.

Using two 8800GTXs (SLI, but disabled for WOE).

I forgot to do the flightengine.ini trick (the one where you change the [GraphicsSettings] parameters). I changed that, and it seemed to help a bit...the clipping didn't start till I got closer to the layer anyway.

Well, Cellinsky did say there was some clipping in the readme. So, he's aware of it. I can put up with it since the rest of the "Wide Sky" mod is so fantastic.

That issue exits because that mod is attempting to use one cloud layer tile, whereas by default, the game uses multiple tiles. Stick will attest to that, right, Stick? :biggrin:

Thats true compare stock environment file and the one that comes with the mod.

The specific entry of interest is

[CloudLayer]

TopTexture=CloudLayerTop%d.bmp

BottomTexture=CloudLayerBottom%d.bmp

Material=CloudLayerMaterial

TileCount=21

NearTileCount=5

TileSize=4000.0

In the mod its

[CloudLayer]

TopTexture=overcast_top.tga

BottomTexture=overcast_bottom.tga

Material=CloudLayerMaterial

TileCount=8

NearTileCount=2

TileSize=8000.0

I know it looks far better than stock but the last time I was listening clipping was the issue!
