+ST0RM 145 Posted January 22, 2009 Wow, some big shoes to try and fill. The few songs I've heard from Slipknot, I only really cared for Duality. It's a good angry running song. Love the scary mask thing though. Gotta have a gimik when your "music" is just so-so.
Silverbolt 104 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) yeah, no matter how good is their song, i still find a cr@p,its too dirty full of crossovers, they behave as 10 years old boys brainwashed by marlyin manson in the stage....you just can't compare with Metallica.... i still hatin them since 2004 when i listen The Subliminal Verses... they're self proclaimed Magg0ts from hell , but IMHO they should exchange the M to F Edited January 22, 2009 by Silverbolt

Icarus999 70 Posted January 23, 2009 Just skimmed the article... I agree they are talking out their A**es.... and no one like's a braggart. I grew up as a huge Metallica fan and was totally bummed when they became what they have been for the last 10 years. its funny to hear the Slipnot boys talk about not even having recorded their answer to the "black album" because that was the album that marked the beginning of Metallica's slide down the slippery slope of commercialism a move that catapulted bands like Pantera to the top, while causing long time Metallica loyalsts like me to stop buying their albums. Slipnot's last album was weird... it had balls out metal/deathmetal songs mixed with poppy radio"new rock" crap. The few heaviest (death metal) songs on that album were actually really good with awesome drumming and nice guitar work... but the radio rock crap was awfull. My advice to them.... show some respect to the bands that paved the way 20 years ago, and think before you speak.
Ruggbutt 45 Posted January 23, 2009 Back in the day we called people who acted like that, posers. Not fit to shine Metallica or Maiden's shoes.
Silverbolt 104 Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) My advice to them.... show some respect to the bands that paved the way 20 years ago, and think before you speak. Couldn't be more clear! Great bands as DT that have experience to talk this way never did it,because IMO the sucess doesn't came self proclaming , and yes by merit ,the audience reccognize and offcourse much respect ! btw, when i watched last year Symphony X in my city everybody were saying they are the new pantera, i think pantera can't be relplaced, but SX have some great songs that rock me as Pantera used to rock. eraser_tr 29 Posted January 23, 2009 Bleh to both. Led Zeppelin, the stones and Pink Floyd forever!
JediMaster 451 Posted January 23, 2009 I like Zep, Floyd, and the Stones as well as Metallica. I don't give two shakes of my cheeks over the bowl for Slipknot. There's no points for claiming you're great in music. (See Jerry Lee Lewis)

Since Black I have been almost ashamed to list Metallica in my favourite band list when asked, just easier not to go there. What a shame from what they once were. Maiden rule, always did despite the hiatus with Blaze (more like Singe) Bayley, hell I think Bill Bayley would have carried those songs off better.

Lt. James Cater 62 Posted January 25, 2009 Didn't bother with the article seeing as i've been putting up with that kind of stuff for years now. Metallica really was something special for the first 5 albums (Yes, even the Black one!). But i haven't been able to stand 99% of the stuff they've done since. The only thing i respect about Slipknot is that a few of them come from Thrash/Grind backgrounds. Before i forget, Morbid Angel and Emperor beats them both hands down easily. Want insane Progressive stuff? The Dillinger Escape Plan's "Calculating Infinity.

SymphonyX.... wow now that's an amazing band. I really respect guys like that who have the dedication to push themselves to this level as a unit. Intricate progressive speed metal bands require so much hard work just to meet the "bar" that very few people actually are willing to put forth the effort for any length of time. Yeah every body seems to think they can play to the level it takes to do this well...until they actually try, and then reality sets in - this is serious work- and to do it you are going to have to make a lot of sacrifices. I play extreme prog metal and I can tell you from personal experience how hard it is to keep a band together when the work aspect dominates the fun aspect. For prog metal musicians working with singers is enough to make you insane. You spend years writing these elaborate songs, then you bring in a singer who tells you he want's to chop up your song and make five different songs out of it... nor does he want to push himself like the rest of the band ...just sorta wants to do what comes natural. Yeah .... bands like Dream Theater or symphonyX just freaking amaze me, and these guys do it for the love of the music because they cant be making much money in the prog genera after all the expenses are paid. That's the reason Derrik Roddy quit turing with Hate Eternal... to work so hard, record the albums, tour non stop and when all expenses are paid he had "dik" to show for it.
