Maurice Jean Paul Boyau had 35 victories and had a specialty of downing balloons. He downed 21 balloons over the course of the war with 14 aerial victories.

That's a sweet looking dragon. I thought there might be a connection with that serpentine emblem and his rugby days playing for Team France but I couldn't find any.

He was born in Algeria - maybe his Serpent is a symbol from the Arabian mythology?

 

I wish you good success with the Dr.1, Shiloh - a hell of a turn-devil with a good climb.

As Hellshade says - pick the fights you could win, and you should be fine.

After fying lots of serious campaign with my Jasta 14 pilot I felt like having a go in the action-stuffed Flanders today.

But boy, was I weaned of the danger! Without Labels, I was almost permanently under threat, or at least felt like.

Nevertheless did I shoot a Triplane and a Nieuport down. But I wonder if I'm getting too old for this sorta thing!

After another test-flight with my new Jasta 10 skin (applied some more varnish), I'm back at Heule airfield - and content.

Leutnant Max Jung from Jasta 6 battles Nieuport 24's and R.E.8's. His fuel tank was pierced and he was forced to land at Emerchicourt. Two of the 5 R.E.8's were shot down but the other three bombed Emerchicourt just before his landing.

Thank you Olham and Hellshade! It was an early morning (0800 hours) flight in January and when I first saw the clouds and lighting I knew it was going to be an enjoyable flight with some great opportunities for screenies. I just love the way the Nieuport catches the light so I just started a pilot with 94th Hat in the Ring and I'm about to do some QC to test. I'm still amazed by the variety of lighting, weather patterns, etc. that just speaks volumes to the fantastic world the OFF team has created for us.

I've never flown the Nieuport 28 before but she handles well enough. Visibility is poor but I started to get used to it after some time. Anyhow, a bit of QC action against Fokker.EV.

The first one, and that with the ambulance truck are keepers IMHO!

The Nieuport is the craft I would pick if I started an American campaign.

The craft performs quite well, and the top wing fabric failures were mentioned far more than they ever happened.

What was more of a bad point was, that the craft often had engine failures, which can get nasty.

But in a sim, I like flying it.

I too have wanted to campaign with an American pilot Olham for obvious reasons. The Nieuport 28 seems like a good place to start. She does tend to stall on turns and want to turn over on her back but I'll get the hang of it. On my last QC I did take just one good burst and it ripped my top wing off and set me alight (pictures to come) so at first glance it seems like she's on the weaker side. If I can learn how to make tight turns without rolling over then I'll be ready to campaign. That ambulance driver must have done one of these :yikes: when he saw me coming in for a landing.

 

I had run out of ammo Widow and was just messing around but I guess I could have gone Flyboys on him and pulled the service revolver. :grin:

Turn the N 28 with EITHER rudder OR elevator only - gentle turns you don't bank her hard, and there you can use rudder.

But combat turns should be done with good energy=speed - bank her hard there and use ONLY elevator to bring her round.

Don't try tight turns with too little enery.

I mixed it up with some Fokker.EV's and tried to fly under a bridge which was 'almost' successful.

In a Nieuport 28 I would not dare to turnfight with the Fokker E.V / D.VIII - but you'd have no other advantage either.

Perhaps good team work would be your only chance.

Thanks for all the tips Olham. I've been practicing against them in QC as I figure if I can beat them, I can defeat almost any craft. If you look at the last 2 screenies I was punishing one EV when another one snuck up behind me and set me on fire. I'm able to get behind the EV's but often I lose control when trying to turn with them and that kills my advantage. I always do 5 vs. 5 so the odds were even. Next I will try some D.VII's and see how I do against them using the tips you provided.

A busy day for Jasta 15 - the British sent many bombers into our area to attack our airfields and structures;

and the French escorted them with Nieuport 24 and SPAD VII. Jasta 15 shot down several of each type.
