Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell-The War to End All Wars-(video)

Recommended Posts

I have no words to describe what we owe to the men and women in uniform around the world that have fought for freedom. I cannot say any better what others have spoken before me. All I can offer is a simple but heartfelt Thank You.

My contribution for Memorial Day.

This is my black & white version. I will upload the same video (on youtube) in color in the near future.

You can see a bit more detail in color but black & white gives the effect I wanted.

Incredible, Jammer!

The cutting to the music - very professional!

And the black-and -white makes it even more believeable footage, especially as you

combined it so well with photography. I got chicken skin on the last pictures. were we

are lead back to today.

Hats off - to your movie, and to those men!

Loved it great work Jammer - don't think I have that many kills ever let alone to make a movie (considering the amount of wasted footage it takes lol) !

Fantastic, really enjoyed that. The timing of the music to the video was excellent, at just the right spots and I loved the ending with the updated shots. Thanks!

Outstandingly superb Jammer - you've done it again,

& IMHO your best yet :bowdown2:

I also forgot to say thanks for the PM,

Excuse me if anybody had asked this already, but have you considered a tutorial on how you go about making these movies - It would be great to have one from the master :clapping:

Hello to everyone,

Again thank you very much for your kind words. I love making the videos but sharing them with people who appreciate Over Flanders Fields as much as I do, and enjoying them, is immensely gratifying.

If I could indulge myself I would like to share a story with you on how I came to make videos like this.

I love classical music and I would play spider solitaire while listening to it. A few years back I finished a game and while the music was still playing I watched a video of CFS2 that I had captured. I was surprised how the music, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Tumblers”, matched the action. I thought to myself that I could put the two together and make a video. I made that one and a few MSFS9 videos. I didn’t think about youtube or doing anything with my videos except for sharing them with friends and family. At the time I naively thought that I had invented flight sim videos! I realized how silly I was for thinking that when I did a search and found some other videos on the internet. I still laugh at myself for being so naïve. I’m 48 now and still naïve in some ways. The videos out there range from bad to very good. I wanted to make something different, something captivating. I never pursued anything more in CFS2 and making a general aviation video exiting is difficult. Not impossible, but limited in what you can do. For the last three years I have done nothing in making videos.

Then along came Over Flanders Field. Man was I hooked. I was captivated by the experience it gave in WWI aerial combat. Flying, fighting and dying had never been so exciting. I would get so excited at gaining a victory or completing a mission and so mad at myself for letting my pilot get killed. The highs and lows are incredible. I wanted very much to capture the experience of Over Flanders Field in videos and make them as cinematic as possible. The videos are ok so far but it’s not what I had in mind when I started to make them. I want to go one step further but I’m not sure how to do it yet.

I’m happy to hear some of your reactions and that they are referred to as movies. That makes me feel good. Thank you.

Tonyo – legion asked about a tutorial. Oh goodness, a tutorial? UK_Widowmaker asked the same thing and in a PM I tried to answer him. I couldn’t really come up with a tutorial. For me it’s kind of a process. For example, I have wanted to make a video using Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Festival at Baghdad” for some time but didn’t have the right theme to match it. Plus the song is over 11 minutes. Youtube has a 10 minute limit. Since the ending is rather slow and a couple minutes long I thought about cutting it. Last week I was listening to it and then it hit me. The ending is the best part you fool! Then I made a connection to the war as a whole. Everything fell into place after that. If you have a theme then find the right music for it. If you have some music that you think would be good in a video then match it to the proper theme. The music is most important for it sets the tone. After that it’s all technical. All I can say is the same thing I told Widowmaker. If you have a question about how I did something, just ask. I will be more than happy to answer.

Thanks again to everyone and especially the devs. Without Over Flanders Field I would still be playing spider solitaire and listening to classical music.

Cheers,

Jammer

So much for spider solitaire. You are doing bigger and much better things. I should think that if an avid WWI aviation enthusiast would see your work they would have to get their hands on OFF BH&H. It is incredible really how many aspects of interest and participation there is for us OFFers. Thanks for explaining your process and story. We look forward to your next film.

That was fantastic! Thank you for putting that up.

The mind boggles how much time it must have taken to create that, and it really got to me heart and soul. Wouldn't want to fly against you mind, for those were some really nice manouvres you were doing in the film.

The shots at the end were heartbreaking and its good some of us still remember those brave boys, and even better a few can make such homages to them from something like computergame. Congrats for elevating a pastime into something that really conveys a message we all feel, but havent the skill to do so ourselves.

When I bought this game I just wanted the adrenalin dogfighting action, but whilst playing I began to learn alot about history and the sacrifices of the 1st world war. This vid sums that up, with action at the beginning and a rendering of the true cost at the end.

Its a shame even now the leaders of the civilisations of man can't just shake hands and work together for a brighter future.

If the common man didnt fight, and the people at home refused to make weapons, the world would be a better place. but hey, we need an income, right? (< sarcasm)

Forgive the ramblings, Thanks again on a thought provoking vid :)
