+Erik 1,812 Posted June 9, 2009 I'm SO not cut out for the navy or working any profession that involves waves like that... I heard the Aussies got some new subs on order. I'd think you'd expect waves like that down in the 50's, 60's and 70's but in the Sea of Japan? WOW

scouserlad13 0 Posted June 10, 2009 that would be such a fun job working on an aircraft carrier. Especially with the US. ON board with Hornets taking off on deck, man what an experience that must be. Suppose it would kind of become a pain in the arse after a while though, especially when you are trying to sleep
MAKO69 186 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) 3 words, Pitching deck sucks! Navy planes are tuffer they are designed w/salt water inmind. The King Neptune always lets you know whos incharge every now and again Edited June 10, 2009 by MAKO69
JediMaster 451 Posted June 10, 2009 While the carrier may look huge on the outside, having an entire base's worth of personnel onboard means it's very SMALL on the inside.
ezlead 42 Posted June 10, 2009 In calm seas the top of the flightdeck is 50-60 feet above the water. Those waves were HUGE. Imagine being a tincan(destroyer) sailer with that Battle Group. Not for the weak stomach type.
charlielima 328 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) If thats the day I think it was, I was on the Oly watching the Midway get blue water over the bow. when the front of the boat got out of the water they would punch 2 F-4s off the bow cats and spot 2 more on the cats while the bow was "wet". I believe that was also in the Sea of Japan. CL Edited June 10, 2009 by charlielima
+Typhoid 231 Posted June 10, 2009 the one shot that put up top is one I took from the flag bridge on Indy in the North Atlantic. If you look closely you'll see an A-7 wing in the spray, and just think of the A-6 spotted in front of the one in the center forward of the deck...... yea, a little bit of corrosion control work for the next month.............
