Hey all,

Now this is something I've never noticed before. I've been playing SF2 a bit recently and did a recce mission in an F-14 with a T-38 on the wing. As we're approaching the objective point, I get contacts and send the T-38 home. I shot down two Fishbeds with AIM-9's, one with the gun, and the last crashed. After that, I get four more Fishbeds headed for the T-38. Four Phoenix later, the T-38 is safe (every missile worked) but two more Fishbeds come up from the base I'm supposed to do recce over, and this is where it got interesting.

They open up on me with heaters (mission was set in 1977, so they weren't tough to defeat) and I have a lot of energy (I was at around 1.4M) so I figure I'll just get a bunch of altitude with that energy and they won't be able to follow. I do an immleman, and they're still on me; I do a second, and as I complete it (I still have about 350kts) I see one Fishbed nose-down recovering airspeed, the other is spirialing down towards the earth without the canopy or the pilot. It crashed and I zorched back to base, leaving the remaining Fishbed in the dust.

So my question is, when was this feature added, or has anyone else ever had this happen? This is the first time I've ever encountered an AI punching out of an out of control aircraft.

I am only flying WoV at the moment but even in this version I am amazed at some of the AI maneuvers.

Well they have no fear when the plane goes into a fluttering stall I suppose.

Not exactly like that, but once I downed this F-4E when flying MiG-17. He went into flatspin as his controls were badly shot up, but the crew stayed in the cockpit until around 3k-2k ft before they punched out.... Currently flying WOV patched to 08 level.

RobK,

Yes, I converted it from the first generation series. It isn't too tough, just follow the steps in the Knowledge Base.

That feature's been there from the onset. I once recall seeing a lone MiG-21 flying alone, after my flight intercepted a group of them, I was out of heaters, and out of gun ammo. As I flew alongside, I noticed that it lacked a canopy...and that was back in the SP2 days.
