Akmatov 1 Posted February 7, 2010 I must have missed it, but is there a list somewhere of the AI, i.e. non-flyable, aircraft in OFF?
Rickitycrate 10 Posted February 7, 2010 No. Nope. No list. All aircraft are flyable. Imagine that. If they are in there you can fly them.
Olham 164 Posted February 7, 2010 Indeed, Rickitycrate - I never thought about that - that isn't granted in other sims! Welcome, Akmatov! 1. If you have got OFF already, please send me a PM with your hometown and country for our OFF Pilots Map. 2. If you haven't got it: get it! (And then continue with No. 1) If you are interested in WW1 air combat aviation, you are absolutely right here! (And I don't get paid for saying that! Hey, Devs - that's an idea... Lol!) Bandy 3 Posted February 7, 2010 It is an interesting question because AFAIK in various CFS3 mods (ETO, MAW, etc...) their devs have included AI only versions of aircraft that are easier to render for the system, lower polys, less bloated textures. This could help those experiencing performance problems.
carrick58 23 Posted February 7, 2010 Might be a quick fix to fleshing out the numbers of 2 seaters in off. Flying alone and slow they would be easy pickings.
Akmatov 1 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks for the fast reply. I used to fly RB3D back in the day and bought OFF a while ago. However, was so disgusted by my rotten flying I drifted off. Currently working with MSFS 2004 to actually learn a little about flying and want to get into OFF. Going to get OFF installed and probably crash a few harmless unoffensive WW1 ac just to get a feel for things. Had not realized that if you see it, you can fly it! The fighters are very well represented, but it seems to me that the variety of two-seaters is a bit thin. It is my impression that a major activity for fighters was beating up on two-seaters, therefore I would have expected a few such more types - as AI aircraft as it might not be a lot of fun flying some of the aircraft sent up to die. Just a thought as I have a looooonnnnng way to go. :) Hmm, so the Gotha(?), Jenny and Phoenix are new flyable aircraft from the download section?
Akmatov 1 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks for the URLs. I'm just about to install OFF and they will be very useful. The aircraft DLs I was thinking are located at: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=355 For example: "new orignal curtiss jenny conversion of mark rudes cfs3 conversion for use in off bhah by stumpjumper textures by capt winters and stumpjumper"
Akmatov 1 Posted February 7, 2010 Rude and Blasphemous in the same comment, and on a Sunday too. I have asked a perfectly reasonable question. If someone else would care to explain the apparent contradiction of Combat Ace offering Aircraft Models in their Download Section, which for other flight sims usually means original or tweaked aircraft, I would be interested. The down-loadable OFF aircraft offered seem like they might be AI/non-flyable intended for mission builders or MP activities. I would not care to hear from uncleal, who hopefully will get over himself soon.
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted February 7, 2010 . Akmatov, I'll take a stab at trying to answer your question. As our resident diplomat has already noted, there are no downloadable aircraft for OFF that will work in the SP campaign side of the sim, per se. The planes you make note of are available to download and use in custom missions and in the MP venue, along with such items as the Zeppelin and Short seaplane, (both of which I believe are from Phase I: uncleal can, and will, correct me if I am in error on this point). Also, if memory serves, you can fly any of these planes as well, but the cockpits have not been modeled for them so I am not sure what you actually see there when flying. BTW, welcome to the BHaH skies Akmatov! Cheers! Lou

Bandy 3 Posted February 7, 2010 A leash comes to mind for diplomats of that ilk, and from what I've read this ain't the first time... That kind of response should never be allowed, especially to a new community member. Moderators where are you? It simply tarnishes this otherwise friendly community. Olham 164 Posted February 7, 2010 Akmatov and Bandy, this ain't ANY rude gruntler to be banned or disciplined; this is UncleAl - the institution for such behaviour. But don't worry - he's the only one...
OvS 8 Posted February 7, 2010 Bandy, He is who he is, if you saw the 'awards' I 'handed' out at the end of December, he was given a special nod for being the first biter on new flesh. I don't see his reply as a problem, and when I do, I address it. And he knows that... We all know how uncleAl is and we accept him for the way he his. He is one of the most helpful guys we have, and 9 times out of 10, he's there to give good advice, even if it comes at a cost... and that's usually the 10th time out of 9. Consider being 'bitten' by our beloved Pitbull as part of the initiation into the OFF Community. Lord knows, I have my own bite marks from him... OvS PS... here's a bone uncleal... good boy... this about sums it up...
Olham 164 Posted February 7, 2010 A lovely ode to our Unc - wonder if he will fit through his bedroom door tonite.

I can appreciate and admire your dedication to long standing members of the community, however I'm not a newbie, and I respectfully disagree with your statistics after more than a year here and before at SOH. While we all feel like writing "RTFM" every once in a while, the OP was not approaching that situation with his question. It is sad when online faceless bully-tactics on new members is perceived as "charming". But hey, just my faceless opinion.
catch 81 Posted February 8, 2010 But Bandy, We could not possibly unleash such a force on the world. There would be carnage. Fear not, he is safely chained. Better to control the beast here in a safe environment
catch 81 Posted February 8, 2010 Pol .... you did tighten the chains didn't you ? He IS in your basement isn't he ? OMG ! it finally dawns on the idiot ... {gulp} .... I'm moving to the wilds of Tasmania. Can anyone provide me with a map of Tassie ?
