+suhsjake Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I got to actually see that bird flying while I was driving past Edwards. It is one big airplane, that is for sure. Congrats USAF. Quote

Lexx_Luthor Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 at a range of hundreds of kilometers, Yea now that's the idea. Okay, how about targeting aircraft? One thing at a time I guess. Quote
Rambler 1-1 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Is that a 747 with a frikin' laser beam attached to it's nose? Quote
dsawan Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Hmmmm.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100213/ts_nm/us_usa_arms_laser Quote
dsawan Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Thx. This topic reminds me of Spies like US movie with Bill Murray, dan Akroyd. They test a laser to shoot down a Russian ICBM but it was ground based. not Boeing aircraft. Quote
+JediMaster Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 The Clancy book Cardinal of the Kremlin was about the Russians developing a laser like this, also ground-based, for missiles and even satellites. The ABL program has been semi-canceled, though, and is relegated to test status only. So this is the only one that will be built. It's the same size as other 747's, though! Except the -8, that's a little bigger. Quote
shotdown Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Thx. This topic reminds me of Spies like US movie with Bill Murray, dan Akroyd. They test a laser to shoot down a Russian ICBM but it was ground based. not Boeing aircraft. Bill Murray was not on that movie. I think Akroyd's partner in that movie was Chevy Chase. Quote
+JediMaster Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Yes, probably one of the last good films Chevy Chase was in! Quote
