Apparently the Spanish police agreed to placate a 'bank hostage' situation by allowing the radical to 'escape' uninhibited. He was allowed to walk out of the bank in the company of 2 hostages. The police provided him with a motorcycle and free access to the motorcycle. Then, leaving the hostages behind, he was permitted to ride away down a clear roadway to make his 'escape.' This whole incident, shown on CBS television, complete with news reporting in English, can be seen on this 55-second video clip. The concluding few seconds of this video shows the result of the Spanish planning. If this happened in the U.K., America or Canada, the cops would all be suspended and fired. The terrorist would get a new motorcycle, $500,000 compensation, an apology from the Secretary of State, and his family would be brought over from Pakistan and housed in Detroit/Quebec/London. I heard from some old salty police from 1970's Washington DC who used to harass people for whatever reason with impunity and that I find deplorable since their victims couldn't fight back. But in a situation where there is no doubt and someone is threatening murder then these Spaniards did the right thing. I would have condoned other means of maiming this guy as well. macelena 1,070 Posted June 23, 2012 I remember he case. My aunt is a reporter in a local paper in Alicante, and covers the crime section, and befriended the police officer. The police officer later retired the "secrets" (plainclothes regular National Police Corps), when he and another cop got involved in a shootout in a jewelry. Two albanese and a french robbers armed with bulletproof vests handguns, a submachinegun and a shotgun stormed in, when they got out two officers had arrived in the car. The machinegun guy sprayed the street, wounding a civilian in a neighbouring cafe, until he took a shot to the head with a shotgun. Another one was wounded and surrendered, while the last fled the scene. The police officer is now an instructor in the National Police Academy in Avila. Back to the video, the aerobatic robber had asked for cocaine and the bike after holding a couple of hostages with a fake grenade. He was infected with AIDS and died a couple of years later in jail.
