MAD CATZ® ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF 'COMBAT PILOT™'

- A NEW MULTIPLAYER COMBAT FLIGHT EXPERIENCE FOR PC

New MMO Experience Allows Flight Sim Enthusiasts to Train and Fly as Military Pilots

San Diego - July 24, 2012 - Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. ("Mad Catz") (NYSE MKT: MCZ) announced today that it will launch a new flight simulation experience entitled Combat Pilot in the Summer of 2012. Combat Pilot introduces multiplayer, military aviation and combat operations to the ultra realistic world of flight simulation, where simulation enthusiasts from around the world can train, fly, fight and interact together.

Combat Pilot was developed by Mad Catz' internal ThunderHawk Studios™ and represents the first ever interactive, multiplayer combat simulation built around Flight Simulator X™ from Microsoft® (sold separately).

Those entering the Combat Pilot universe must qualify to earn their wings in order to fly with others in the community. The proprietary, multiplayer engine, as well as the regulated, military environment, sets Combat Pilot apart from any other flight simulation experience.

"We believe that Combat Pilot will prove to be an important destination for the flight simulation community to gather, interact, and share experiences," said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. "Mad Catz' Saitek brand and flight simulation is an important part of our company's culture and Combat Pilot will allow the flight simulation community to come together and interact as never before."

What is the point of this? What service exactly are you selling? How does the combat work? What is the pricing like after the first month?

I like the military environment but where does one go after they earn their wings? Also the HUDS didn't look collomated. Will that be fixed?

Looked into it, man...not so impressed.

ESPECIALLY with that price tag

If it's as good as they say it will be, they better BRING IT, since it costs $50/month...

$600/year? Not so sure I will even consider trying it.

I don't believe they are going to deliver a flight/combat experience even as good as FC2 much less DCS.

Of course if they get a sizable user base, they will have the kind of income it takes to make it as good or better than DCS.

But they better do some market research.

Aces High was $30/month and eventually trimmed its price down to $15/month which remains the going rate for a decent online game.

$600 will take me a lot further in DCS... and still be mine to fly every year after tha.

But, if it was everything I ever wanted in a combat sim... I still might try it for a month or two.

Very interesting idea on a couple of different levels... I might be inclined to do this if they had a "Heritage Flight" section for us retro simmers...

You need to try the free 2 weeks with Aces High and find a P-47 squad.

They have plenty of P-47 variants to choose from and some really good guys.

With built in voice coms that have multiple "radio" channels, you can have a lot of fun.

The flight models are detailed enough that it takes a while to learn how to push a particular aircraft to its limits and the weaknesses of the other aircraft you are flying against.

It you have the time to commit to flying regularly with a squad, Aces High can be one of the most rewarding sims you can fly.

First month is $50... probably competitive rate after that.

Looks like it will fulfill the intent of Fighter Ops.

Some sort of role playing at being a real pilot starting with the training.

Looks like it will favor modern aircraft... which isn't very compelling for me.

You must be pretty old if you think F-5 and T-6 are modern :jk:

Hopefully they'll bring in jets like F-86, I think that era is a good mix of missile throwing and dogfighting

Yesh, I just tought about it too. the idea is pretty good, but the price is quite excessive. Also last time I cheked they had only trainers, not a single combat airplane.

Some links about how Combat is done in FSX.

Well, if it's $50 to start (for the software and first month) and then something like $15/month after it would be like iRacing with planes which IMO seems to be the direction they're looking to go. It's unclear if you also need to buy a copy of FSX first or if that's included in the $50.

I'm unemployed right now, so I won't be trying it at any rate, and I'm all about the combat anyway. Training holds little appeal to me. I DL'd the NW Range for SF years ago and spent maybe 30 mins on it!

While I understand the "training" aspect of this but for me as a disabled "flyer", it might be frustrating for someone like me. Does it have offline capability? I didn't check the link yet.

Actually, they made it clear that you already had to have FSX Gold or FSX + Addon installed in addition to the $50.
