Skyviper Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I've recently decided to try my hand at the flying the E2-c Hawkeye in SF:NA its very challenging to land I find (compaired to the fighters) its also more challenging doing the missions. When there are now ECMS or flairs or chaff to use and support is never available. So I'm wondering how can I have armed wingmen when flying recon in the E2? I've tried starting the mission with aricraft i.e the F-14 flying a recon mission type though other planes are there for me to pick from the E2 is not. If I can't get the E2 to have armed wingmen then how can I set it foir support to be there when I call for it? Oh, one more quesiton, is there a way for me to replace the default F-14 with better modded ones so I can use the modded ones in the default campagins? I'm sorry if this as been answered elsewhere. If has please just give me the link and I'll be glad toread it. Thank you for your time. Quote
+russouk2004 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) single mission...Fly E2..choose 2nd,3rd etc as wingmen\cover Edited December 6, 2013 by russouk2004 Quote
+Fubar512 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 The E-2 (and the E-3) do not need to carry chaff. They are, afterall, carrying the largest airborne jamming system made atop their air-frames. As for IR countermeasures, I'm would assume that both AWACS types carry them, though I would wait until either Typhoid or SidDogg chimed in before adding them. Quote
+ianh755 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) Russo - If you do it that way then there's no weapons for the AI wingmen in the Loadout page as they can only load what *your aircraft" i.e the Hawkeye can, which is none. SkyViper - You'll need to select a single mission as the fighter that you want your escort to be i.e If you want F-14 escorts then you have to select a mission as an F-14 and then, in the Loadout Page, change *your* aircraft to the Hawkeye etc. Just be careful to select a Mission type that the Hawkeye can actually do i.e Recon and don't select a Strike or Attack etc mission as you won't be able to select Hawkeye for that etc. The only way to call support is by using the Mission Editor (either came as DLC or came with EXP 2 DLC) and you can can select "Support" options in there. As for better models etc the TMF pack is a fantastic update and well work getting - http://combatace.com/files/file/12327-tmf-f-14-tomcat-superpack/ and the Update - http://combatace.com/files/file/13180-tmf-f-14-tomcat-super-pack-v121-update/ Edited December 6, 2013 by ianh755 Quote

Alternatively, you can add those weapons and tanks from the Tomcats to the Hawk's data.ini, that way those weapons systems will be available automatically for any aircraft who can use them if you choose to add an escorts. Though the FTs are usually platform specific, so adding Tomcat FTs to the Hawkeye and then selecting F-4s will mean they have weapons available to use, but no tanks. I do this with with certain nation specific aircraft so I can use them among multiple combat aircraft, mix up my OCA/DCA/Strike packages and keeping weapons and tanks options open (ie, Indonesian F-5Es using F-16 CTank/Wtanks, because it's a long damned flight between Jakarta and Darwin!). 1 Quote
Skyviper Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Thanks for the help everyone! I'm going to see what I can do and maybe not get shot down this time. Quote
KJakker Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 What about adding a separate flight of fighters to the mission and assign them to escort you? Quote
Skyviper Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 The F-14s are awesome .. I think I'm going to replace the stock ones used in the stock campaings with those. Also in single mission I noticed that F-14 (82) was listed as an optional aircraft to do recon when the E2 was selected. When I chose that same F-14, recon mission, the E2 wasn't there in the list. But the good news is that I landed the E2 on the deck ... only after bouncing on the deck a little bit but I did land it that thing is tough to land.... for me anyway I'm used to setting down fighters. its nice though. Skyviper Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Figured it out. I had to change service years and mission profile types. E2-C was properly labeled as an Early Warning as both primary and secondary roles and added in Recon to it. I also randomly selected an F-14 its service year start and end was 2006 I changed the start year to 1972. Took up one E-2C with 15 F-14s 8 were set strictly for aerial combat the others were set primarily for ground assault. In the end some enemy planes went missing as did a number of ground installions .... I lost one F-14. In other words I got to pull a Tyhpoid Quote
