I downloaded the India-Pak terrain a while ago(I was years ago part of the team doing the mod for sfp1 for a bit). The effort on terrain tiles and types is brilliant and shows up great..kudos to the team. However, geograpically the Terrian is unapologetically shambles which is understandable as the team may have been busy with other things. I decided to try and put(as accurately as possible) the Real Life locations of the various cities , targets and airbases together.

Working with the targets.ini and cities.ini was simple enough and the locations did show up correctly, however the tilesets were off along with the map height at those locations so I tried the Terrian editor. Using the "tutorial" that was put together for member lexx_luthor I tried to get the terrain heightmap up and running. However, any attempts to have the tile set show up have failed. Additionally, any attempts to try and level airfield locations based on new coordinates has the game crashing. If the members of the development team have any clues for this I would be very helpful.

Ive changed the map for the terrain and fixed the FLOT as well. I have not yet changed all the airbase markers to show how inaccurate the locations were.

I love playing the game so only want to help.

P.S I will NOT be uploading any of the changes and fixes to the mod unless requested by the team members of the mod or given explict permission by them.

Nice work! I'm re-working the Iran/Iraq map which has the same issues regarding targets and airfields locations. Unfortunately I can't help, because TW's Terrain Editor crashes on my system and I avoid using it. Have you ever tried Gerwin's TFDTool? It might make your job a lot easier when it comes to tiling and leveling the heightmap.

no it won't

a complete rebuild as he's proposing, is best done only the TE. You can manipulate mass amounts of tiles all at once

iirc, centurion-1 is rebuilding the Iran/Iraq already, and is well along in progress

Not a complete rebuild as such. A lot of the terrain is at the right place. Just the cities and airfield that need to be put at the right spot. Unfortunately, the TE isnt quite cooperative so I wa hoping that some help could be sourced to make it happen.

you're also forgetting the massive amount of work re-targeting; moving all the target areas, and their attendant items, BACK to their 'correct' placements within the various 'new' city tiles

Took me months to get it where it is now ....and I'd have thought our Resident Expert that worked on the project would have said something before we released it, as he lives in Mumbai.

so, best to start learning the TE, get it set up properly -and it ain't that hard to do- (follow Gepards' tutorials), and go from there. I'm too far buried to revisit something already finished and released.

I live on the opposite side of the border, and Its nowhere close to accurate in any location. The map image I posted here is basically an overlay over the original map..the geography was spot on.. so all I did was put a political map on top of it. And as you can see by the cities and locales.. nothing matches its Real Life counterparts.

Ive figured the .ini files on the targets and am actually along halfway on them. So Airfields and cities are showing up in their right locations where they should be approx in Real Life. Its the Height map and Texture that Ill need to burn some hours for.

In any case, thanks for the point to Gepards tutorial.. hopefully Ill pick it up and fix this otherwise great piece of work .

Cheers.

Wrench uses accurate aeronautical charts for placement, not simple maps.  Also, as the terrains are two thirds scale, placement is often a subjective matter.

Well, I tried figuring that. However, Here even aeronautical charts would show a bit off. To give you an example.. the distance between PAF Mushaf and PAF Lahore in he game is thrice what it would be in Real Life. Additionally.. PAF Mushaf is Above PAF Lahore in latitude while in the mod it sits all the way below. The map I posted above is basically the SAME map used in the mod except I put the political overlay on it. The geography matches perfectly and it is a very accurate representation in 2/3rd . Its just the locations that are off.

Ive tried following Gepards great tutorial on terrains to the letter T. The Kashmir terrain he shows builds fine. Yet there is not much luck when I try to get the India/Pakistan terrian to load like it does. Any ideas?
