Hauksbee, a "Blindgänger" (blindwalker) is an explosive (bomb, shell etc.), which did not explode

at it's impact, as it should have - a dud in English.

In German cities they still find tons of unexploded bombs from WW2, which didn't blow up,

but are still lethal. The interiour of the detonators looks like new mostly, when they open them.

Superb UK_W thanks, makes you realise how many 1000s of photos must get chucked out each year all round the world not captured by a someone like him.   He also only saw ones he noticed falling out, or in the back of the lorry so must be more even he missed.

At least I got the basic translation right, but never would have figured that it meant "dud". Thanks, Ohlam.

My dad was in the army between the wars (he was well into middle age when i was born) and i remember photos he had of officers and men that he served with , also he had a postcard of a Zeppelin fling over my home town Blyth in Northumberland which , though i'm sure it was faked looked very convincing. We also had a salt/pepper shaker in the shape of a Mk1 tank which i managed to smash into a million pieces , I was very unpopular for a while , I guess my Mother threw all this lot away after Dad died and she moved house , shame but thats life. Btw for anyone who doesnt know Blyth was an important Submarine base in both wars.

Thanks Widowmaker, and to that man for making the most of his opportunity.  It's a shame people don't see any value in these; My mother has pictures from my youth but I don't know hen I can get down to Florida and help her through them - she'll never do it on her own.  And I thought my sister was real tech savvy and could scan pictures, (pretty simple), but she can't, so if she gets the pictures she'll have to send them to me.  Pretty wild.
