Does anyone have any references, photos, hearsay, etc. about T-6G Mosquitos being flown during the Vietnam War?

I've found ONE fleeting reference to this on Wikipedia:  "During the Korean War and, to a lesser extent, the Vietnam War, T-6s were pressed into service as forward air control aircraft. These aircraft were designated T-6 "Mosquitos".

I made a What If SEA skin from this reference sometime back, but doubt they were painted this way IF they flew in Vietnam.

Any clarification and especially photos will be appreciated.

nothing in my (extensive) library has ever said anything about their use in SEA. They were long out of USAF/USN service. In the FAC operations they'd been replaced by 0-1s by the late 50s. VNAF started using 0-1 in the early 60

never known historical fact to stop you!   still, would go VNAF markings rather than USAF,  even if it typically was an American in the front seat in the early years!

Wrench,

You're probably right, but we all know Wikipedia is NEVER wrong.

DA,

I might give some over to the NVAF but IF these flew over there, what did they look like; what was their ordnance?

SWAG.... start silver, same rockets as Korean War as well as 30 cal gun pods. Late in life looks like above, but with colorful Vietnamese marking (rudder as a flag, dragon unit mark etc)

Like the skin very much! It would look good on a What If plane for Vietnam era.

Well wiki is more less correct in that instance. Remember when You think Vietnam war You have to think BIG and outside of the box.

T-6G s and AT-6s were used in late 50ties and early 60ties by Royal Cambodian Air Force and Royal Laotian Air Force. Laotian T-6s were extensively used not only as a FAC s but also as light attack and CAS aircraft frequently piloted by French and later US advisors before replaced in large part by T-28 Trojans.

BoloG,

You're right.  I wasn't thinking BIG or outside the box.  I also know very little about the late fifties/early sixties in the Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand area other than the French leaving Vietnam in the mid fifties.

This is very interesting stuff.  Would make a great campaign(s)/install if we had enough history and interest from campaign makers and enough photos/history to skin the planes.

Thanks for the links and for clarifying this mystery.

Love the reference to a T-6 shooting down an Il-14!
