stingray77 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Germany is switching systems of TV reception, so we are about to replace our old TV. Now I was thinking to replace my 17" monitor with this TV-screen - a Sony Bravia KDL-46T3500 with 1920x1080 resolution. We already have a Computer hooked to the TV (more or less for surfing and watching photos only), so there's no problem to use the TV as my new sim-monitor from a technical viewpoint. My question is, how would the game cope with the large screen? My rig is a fairly capable one (GeForce 660 GTX), but would the big screen be too much - either for the graphics or the game itself??? Anybody able to add his experience? Many thanks Oliver Quote
saisran Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm also using a TV as my main Monitor. And i have no problem with it. Having a huge screen allows me to Be farther back from the screen. Just bear in mind that the response time of a TV can be noticeably slower. The lower response time doesn't really bother me but it might affect your gunnery. Quote
TempestII Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 The actual size of the screen won't push your hardware any differently than a smaller screen would as long as the resolution is no difference. Sony TVs tend to have low input lag which makes them very good for gaming compared to several other brands - but this is model dependant. Picture quality on Sony Bravia models are generally excellent so there's certainly far worse TVs you could use. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag Quote
stingray77 Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Cool - sounds like it's at least worth trying. Thanks for your input! Quote
Nightshade/PR Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Right now i use a 37" TV as my monitor, and I love it. I too can be further from the screen and still see everything I need to. I scaled back from 46" due to it eating up too much space on my desk. Quote
TeargasHorse Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I have used my 55" for SF2, works awesome. New smart TV capabilities are great for computer users, with HDMI inputs and sometimes USB, and they are far cheaper than buying the equivalent size monitors. I still use a 32" T/S monitor, but it only supports VGA @ 60 Hz. Here's a nerd talking about this stuff... Quote
+russouk2004 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) I use 4k 36" tv as my monitor its great for games ..my pc can handle itsnative res but it looks as good in 1920x1080 Edited December 13, 2016 by russouk2004 Quote
+Fubar512 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 1080P is 1080P, whether one achieves it using a 22" PC monitor, or a 72" television display. The only issue one might encounter, would be due to ideal viewing distances. Since a given resolution results in the same number of pixels being displayed, regardless of screen size, a smaller display will tend to have a sharper image when viewed from a typical "desk top" view distance of just under 24", as the pixels on its screen will be smaller. A 46" display, on the other hand, will appear just as sharp, but only when viewed from a greater distance (ideal viewing distance for that size display is 6.4 feet/1.96 meters). Hope this helped. +76.IAP-Blackbird Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) If you can afford it, go with the current OLED TV Screens, they can achieve a 4K Resolution and are capable of around 1000Hz. But you will never find a Hz Designation on them, it is a calculated data in comparison with LCD Screens. Try to find a TV with Dolby Vision, it currently costs you around 2100€ But they are so damn sharp and fast! Im working currently for LG and they have a range of 55" - 85" but the Signature Line is far to expensive, from 7000€ - 120.000€, their Lover Price range is at 2000€ as i wrote. Maybe a choice for your new TV Screen. It delivers the best possible Picture in comparison with the other TV`s Edited December 14, 2016 by 76.IAP-Blackbird Quote
stingray77 Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 'Kay - got it hooked on and works flawlessly... I just notice that the SF-in-game-screens go a bit beyond than my screen's surface - most noticeable on the "home" button in the upper left corner being half "off screen" and that only the upper half of the loading-progress bar is seen at the bottom of the screen... Sorry for asking before trying more myself (just a bit "free time" at office far away from my rig at home ), but when I change the monitor resolution in the game's options, I do not see an immediate change. Do I have to quit and go back into the game to see the effect of the change made? Thanks. Quote
stingray77 Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Alright: the resolution gets saved and after leaving and reentering the game it is saved as per the selection of the previous session... Quote
