F-4G serial numbers

i try to make the template for my F-4G Decals but now i encounter a problem , there a many double serials end number for example

 

69-0303 and 69-7303 , both show like this on the aircraft

 

there are 19 numbers like this ( if i counted correct ) , what is best to do in this case just make them double ???

i thought of making the decals based on the squadrons the aircraft was flying but i turnd out that the aircrafts moved from one squadron to an other

 

any ideas how to solve this ??? any way in the numbers list the full number would show up , so you could select what ever number you like

unless you have photos to show otherwise, i would have the decal in game doubled up, but the drop down with 4 numbers as you discussed. however you may want to look up those doubled serials,  sometimes the whole number was used and depending on the number sometimes it was incorporated into a Wing King marking with certain numbers emphasized.

 

also i suggest skin and individual decal folder by squadron, esp with a small a population as the G model (wouldnt suggest  this for the E!). unit marking can still be a 2 level, just have a default and one for the fancy boss bird. plug in what known  serials you have per skin, guestimate based on historical info on the rest. but thats my two cents

my plan was actually to make the decals based on the squadrons , but as i mention above i found out that a particular aircrafts was used by many squadrons what gives you a real headache

 

i only can go picture by picture to get the numbers from a squdron so i have an other problem some serial numbers dont show up , unless somebody has a list of all aircrafts used by a squdron

well joe baugher will tell you who an a/c was lost with or last served,  not so good for aircraft history thru lifetime

 

i know of 3 Wings that flew the G model (3d at Clark, 52d at Spang, and 35th/37th George AFB; last went a name only change sometime in 80s) plus the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis and Idaho ANG.  between them one can pin some down although again it would be time consuming. i would go about it a search for each "xxxth TFS F-4G" and see what hits you get for each era.

 

also iirc the two foward deployed wings started with Weasels in one squadron, then spread them later to create a whole wing of hunter killer weasel teams. yes i know im not making that any easier for you!

the first batch of F-4G are 116 aircraft and they came into service from 1978 on , does anybody know at what time frame the second batch of 18 F-4G came in to service

Second batch of 18 F-4Gs modified at the Ogden Air Logistics Center and fitted from the outset with the AN/APR-47:
69-0244, 69-0249, 69-0260, 69-0264, 69-0278, 69-0290, 69-0298, 69-0303, 69-0305, 69-0307, 69-7252, 69-7261, 69-7267, 69-7268, 69-7274, 69-7297, 69-7551, and 69-7557.

From looking at blades list i can see some of the airframes but Davis also says they were intergrated
with F-4E's to form hunter killer teams the most notable being 52nd TFW at Spangdahlem,AFB Germany
and 90th TFS at Clark,Philippines. Makes it pretty tough to find all attached units as they did
move them around.

yap this i know , but at what year did the first aircraft of this second batch enter service ???

 

i have the first 116 decals done in white and black and will use them for the time from 1978 up to 1985 i think i will use the full 134 decals for the time from 1985 up to the service end

1985 would be my best guess too,the only people who would know exact dates are unit historians and USAF Historical Division, Dept. of the Air Force:

Maxwell AFB,Ala.

years ago there was discussion on some other forum (arcforum or something similiar can't find it anymore)  and some guys were caliming that last batch  was spmething between 82-84.

so guess 85 will be more or less correct.

Just to create some more confusion... 

 

It seems that the last batch of 18 F-4Gs were converted no sooner than 1989. At least some of them were formerly assigned to the 51st TFW (as F-4Es) in South Korea. When the 51st transitioned to the F-16 in 1988-89, their Phantoms were handed over to the RoKAF, except for FY69 ones, which were sent back to the States for F-4G conversion (see the links below).

 

Here is 69-7551 (included in the list of the last 18 above), still as an F-4E of the 36th TFS sometime during the late '80s:

 

 

The links below will get you to two photos showing FY69 F-4Es being ferried back to the States for F-4G conversion. They were taken in January 1989 over the Pacific. Everything I'm stating here can be found in the captions below the images.

 

Here is 69-0290 (included in the list of the last 18 above).

 

And here is 69-0303 (included in the list of the last 18 above).

 

Maybe we can try to track down the remaining 15 in the list for more proof.
