Le Bourget Aerodrom. Basic shape made after a landing chart by US DoD of 1954. Since then the shape of the airport has changed a lot.

Hangars and other buildings are still missing, parked aircrafts too. Will come tomorrow.

does the Sino-Vietnam map extend into Thailand (Korat and U Tapao)?

ive been wondering about a scenario similar to the one in the Clancy book Fighter Wing.  Tankers, Bones and the light grays are ready to go..... :biggrin:

I mean if I do fly combat in Vietnam, it's the default SF2V map. Try going into Hanoi with modern SAMs and the like, you definitely need stealth for that...

The answer is simple: No.

It's made for a Vietnam vs China scenario.

One of the mysteries of SF2:

I have a limited nations list

[LimitedNationList]
FriendlyNation001=RAF
FriendlyNation002=RoyalNavy
EnemyNation001=FRANCE
EnemyNation002=WGermany
EnemyNation003=BELGIUM
EnemyNation004=NETHERLANDS
EnemyNation005=DENMARK

So i expect to see british, french, west german, belgian, dutch and danish planes.

And what i found:

Vietnamese MiG-21MF/Bis (with R-13M missiles), for Sino-Vietnam map inspiration.

It are MiG-21bis subversion SAU. Funny fact, the vietnamese pilots prefered the captured F-5E Tiger. It was easier to handle than a MiG-21.

An other funny fact. If you watch carefully you see, that the pilots are of taller stature than the ground crews. The reason is, that vietnamese food was mostly vegetarian. Soviet flight instructors found out, that the physis of the vietnamese pilots was not strong enough to withstand the high g-forces of a modern combat plane like a MiG-21. They got black out between 6 and 7g, while european pilots were able to withstand 9g. The solution was to bring young teenager into the Soviet Union and feed them with european food, mostly beef and pork. When the vietnamese teenager became of age they were taller and stronger than their comrades in the homeland, which were feed mostly vegetarian. So they were able to fly a MiG-21 up to the limits.

With this in mind: Vegetarian diet is malnutrition.

Did a class on nutrition one time, and the instructor pointed out that you're not getting essential stuff from not eating meat. I don't mind salads and the like, but then again they're chicken caeser salads too.

RAF Fairford (WIP). What a big base. If americans build something they build it big.

img00332.thumb.JPG.c792099b9ebff61fdf183bb48366edcd.JPG

Parts of the texture of the runway is missing. Some buildings and some parking areas are missing too.  Will come later.

Sitrep RAF Fairford:

More buildings, reworked parking areas. Next step will be to find the missing texture of the runway and finally to place the parking planes.

Edit: I forgot to show you Dunsfold:

For a naval war my map is not perfect. Only the area between Gulf of Tonking and the island Hainan would be usefull. A possible scenario would be a sea blockade by China against Vietnam. This would be very one sided since Vietnam has no real powerfull  Navy.

For a China vs US-Navy scenario my old map Formosa Strait could be a good starting point. Formosa Strait is concentraiting on China vs Taiwan. But the map is covering the north of the Philippines too.

SitRep: RAF Fairford. Parking positions for airplanes are set now. Take off positions now in 2 rows instead 4 rows for mass take off.

It's impressive to see the big birds.

Gatwick Airport in early 1960 style

The problem was that no correct distances and sizes are available. Only the runway length was said 7.000 feet, which is around 2.133 meters. The rest is guesswork.

In the last days i was busy with TOD object placement on the tiles. Its a boring and time consuming job to move the trees and houses to the correct position.

Some went good, some other things not. So i was never really happy with the TOD buildings for the London tiles. So i made a new one, but, to be honest, it looks more like soviet town flat blocks than London row houses.

In the background you see the TOD building, which are original on the London tiles.
