Ehhhhh ... you get what you pay for when it comes to blank disc media. They make preservation quality media just for this purpose and it's worked quite well for me. The other clean option is to store the data in solid state form as flash drives are getting big enough and affordable enough now to accomplish this. You can back it up to a hdd like it is now and pull the drive and store it in a non static bag with some silicon for moisture. As long as the disc isn't spooling up all the time it should last forever. Is there a 100% foolproof and fail safe way to store no, but it's almost condom percentages.

Say three hail Mary's then archive it all to DVD and all will be forgiven. Go in peace.

Fixed. That was a typo instead of 500 KB max file size I had 50. Any image uploaded for profile background has to be smaller than 500 KB no dimensional restrictions just file size. Thanks great catch.

My pleasure and thank you. As much as I piss and moan about all the work when it comes to moving and upgrades it has a purpose. In our old configuration our RAID10 array was composed of 4 drives, equal size all working as one with two mirrored (RAID1) and two striping (RAID0) for replication and speed respectively. Post carnage reports from the data center guys as they disassembled our old machine reported that one of the drives in the RAID1 mirroring set was crashed. It must have just happened because I usually run a transaction report on the raid controller to see the raid health at the beginning of each month. The last time I saw that report, beginning of January, everything was fine. So we're on new drives now anyway, all is fine, and I never had to worry about a degraded drive that I never knew existed.
