Electric Flinger flings F-18E...
FastCargo replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
I would hope so...heck, they use the same tech in roller coasters for crying out loud.... FC -
From what I understand, the project is dead anyway. Unless Russia grants the company an export license, it'll stay a prototype...if it is ever completed. FC

So I finally did it....
FastCargo replied to Sakai's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Not at the present time...the 4 for 1 deal was last year. TK may offer it again at some point. FC -
An rar file is a type of file compression (like a zip file). Use 7-zip to open it, then read the readme of the file to determine where to add and what. If you're completely new to the SF series, you need to start right here: http://combatace.com/forum/168-new-to-thirdwire-sims-sf-series-wov-woe-woi-first-eagles/ I'm moving this to the correct section of the forum...welcome to CombatAce. View File B-70 Valkyrie Beta (Version 0.97) B-70 Valkyrie (Beta) by FastCargo and friends. ********************** Version 0.97 *********************** (Note, this release includes the XB-70 beta released in November 2010) SF2 Version for Dec 2010 Patch. Models, some decals, most ini adaptions by FastCargo Textures and most decals by Sundowner Dyess AFB serial numbers by Dave from B-1B Redux 3D Rocket Effects by Lexx_Luthor (Lord of the Analog) B-1B Cockpit by Dels Engine Effects by Deuces, Fubar512 Any errors are mine... Package contains: XB-70 aircraft in prototype markings for AV/1 and AV/2. B-70A aircraft in 28BMS and 62BMS markings RS-70B aircraft in 337BMS markings B-70C aircraft in 9BS markings High Resolution versions of the textures and bump maps Original Readmes This readme Notes: This release is a beta, and as such, is somewhat incomplete. The cockpit is from the B-1B, and there are no damage textures. However, almost all other features of a full release have been included. Aircraft include: XB-70 - The original research aircraft in it's actual configuration...not really set up for warfighting. However, this set also includes semi fictional versions of operational aircraft: B-70A - This is most probable version of the Valkyrie that would exist had it gone into production. It is done in 2 paint schemes, the high altitude anti-flash white, and a version painted in an odd silver coating designed to reduce the IR signature (as proposed by the USAF). This version also includes the wing pylons for the Skybolt ALBM, and projected pylons for the smaller nuclear gravity weapons available at the time. RS-70B - Proposed version of the Valkyrie in an attempt to save it from the budget axe. Similiar to the B-70A in capability, but with additional reconnaissance ability similiar to SR-71. This is simulated by an internal camera window taking the location of the forward weapons bay. I projected that the RS-70B would come into existence during the late part of the Vietnam war, using the camera bay to carry the targeting laser, and dropping PGMs since conventional bombing at 80000 feet and Mach 3 would be very inaccurate. As a result, the first LGB drops in Vietnam are done by the RS-70B, not the F-4. B-70C - Completely fictional version of the Valkyrie. In the history where the Valkyrie was produced, most of the B-52 fleet was retired very soon after the Vietnam War, only the G and H models remained to carry the AGM-86B cruise missile. The B-1 was never proposed, with the B-70A being the main gravity nuke delivery system and the RS-70B being the PGM bomber. The F-111 and FB-111 remained as the medium range, low altitude conventional and nuclear penetrator. The B-2 was designed at the outset to be a low altitude penetrator, avoiding the costly redesign the actual B-2 went through, bringing unit cost down. As it was, the B-70 and RS-70 were expected to be retired at the beginning of the 1990s as high altitude, high speed SAM systems became more and more lethal. However, after Desert Storm, the lesson was learned that big, long range SAM systems are vulnerable and expensive, but anyone can have AAA...so the doctrine was adjusted for more medium/high altitude operations with PGMs. So all Valkyries underwent a modernization to the B-70C standard, with the ability to carry all PGMs, including the JDAM, JSOW, JASSM for employment in regional conflicts. There are a few bugs that we haven't been able to solve and may not be solvable due to simulation limitations. The main one is the AI will not take advantage of the high speed and altitude capabilities of the aircraft. Even if you create an actual mission with waypoints dictating altitudes and speeds, it will not fly those parameters (tends to fly a maximum of Mach 1.7). We are still working to squash the remaining issues...and one day we will have a proper cockpit for this machine. This is a long range aircraft, you can hit a few of the 'walls' on several of the stock maps so give yourself plenty of turning room when planning your flight. Have fun...report any crippling bugs (except trying to use it in SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI...you're on your own) in the release thread at CA. Hunter gear, disappear
FastCargo replied to gillg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Easy fix. Go into any of the Hunter's data.ini files. Look for all the lines that say: change each of them to: That should fix the issue. FC -

That's not what the AF uses, at least not the last iteration I saw... FC

Dave, Awesome! There are so many more possibilities to do things with scripted Single Missions...and it's much easier now with the Editor. Cool stuff! FC -
It doesn't affect the model scale. Weapon models should be built with the center of the model at the 0,0,0 axis. However, the sim does not know this, so you input the dimensional data which tells the sim how big the model is...specifically for mounting purposes, it takes the diameter, divides it by two, and mounts the model exactly that distance from the pylon. F-86D/L Rocket Tray.
FastCargo replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Okay, more testing. It's definitely the FM. I modified the 'zero AOA' and 'AOA' lift factors to make the aircraft pitch attitude 'flatter' through more of it's flying speed range and immediately noticed a marked improvement in both AAM use (the old AIM-4s) and FFAR use. The AAM immediately improved...my 16 F-103s vs 6 Tu-22s which if you were lucky might result in 4 Tu-22 kills after ALL weapons were expended went to 6 Tu-22s dead in 2 minutes with AAMs only. In my larger 32 F-103s vs 12 Tu-22s scenario with FFARs only, the kill ratios also went up, though as the aircraft runs got faster (Mach 1.4+), the F-103s started aiming long! But I also saw some remarkable kills, including one sideways pass kill and a HEAD ON kill. I was frankly astonished at both... Anyway, it's definitely the FM...it needs to be tweaked and the lift curves adjusted so that during a lot of the typical speed range of the attacks, the AOA is minimal. FC -

FastCargo replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Well, Il've been doing more tests. I've definitely found that the 'flatter' the attackers are (ie faster) the more accurate they are. When my F-103s would come in at supersonic speed to attack, they would get more hits and survive more. If they were slow on the other hand...it got ugly. I think I'm going to have to tweak the FM for these guys to be effective at all. Also, you mentioned that they close to gun range. That actually doesn't surprise me....I've read that air to air rockets were notoriously inaccurate, resulting in having to get to close range to minimize drift. FC -
You have F-15 Super Pack twice. Also, you might want to be specific as to which F-84 you want. The F-84B,C,D,E,G are undergoing some changes and are not in the F-84F Super Pack. If you want a quick, easy simple mod to install that will educate you on how the file system works, try the Classified Mission Mod. The instructions are easy to understand and have gotten good results by folks new or not very knowledgable on how mods work. Plus, it's a fun little mission, though I'm not sure how it works with the new expansion pack. FC

FastCargo replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I think the avionics.ini files aren't used by the AI at all. I am becoming more and more of the opinion that the FM has to be changed to increase accuracy. I set up the exact same mission, but using the Lightning instead of the F-103 and they ripped into the Tu-22s like butter. I noticed that they tended to be nose down though...firing in a straight line. FC -

Hmmmm...that ain't right. Might be an easy fix with just an ini adjustment. FC -

FastCargo replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I've been fighting this for a while. KJakker, set up an intercept with your mod, but make it larger, say 8 interceptor and 16 targets. Run the mission several times. The larger the sample, the more accurate the actual averages. A single iteration of a mission with 2 interceptors really isn't definitive. The thing I'm noticing with my aircraft is that the aircraft will shoot when pointing at the target, BUT, if where the nose is pointing and where the flight path is going are different, any rockets or missiles will fire along the flight path, not necessarily where the aircraft is pointing.
