  1. Any DRM sucks, but I prefer Steam to disc-based as over the years between Securom and Starforce and some others I had numerous failures to start as the drive failed to verify SOMETHING on the disc. Some, like Splinter Cell 3 and GRAW, would be as bad as one start out of 10 attempts. The only games I have issues with on Steam now are Dirt 3 and F1 2011 where sometimes I have to click 2-3-4 times to get the game to run. The difference is disc-based games would take 30-90 seconds to fail before you could try again, while with Steam I can try every 10 seconds or so.
  2. You're crossing a particular discovery with the development of the technology that enabled the discovery. What we got from BEING on the Moon was of interest to geologists/planetologists/cosmologists/etc. What we got from GETTING there was massive advances in technology in more areas than I can recall. In that case, it was literally the journey that counted more than the destination. All the destination achieved was a global appeal to the feelings of exploration and discovery, which unfortunately were squandered when we quit going.
  3. But the question is whether they REALLY feel the way they purport to or if they're just trying to do it for shock value?
  4. Israel has a lot less area to cover than NZ. A lack of AB is fine in Israel as you're never more than a few minutes' flight time away, but NZ has large areas of ocean to cover.
  5. It would be a big finding, but what real impact would it have? Ask anyone you know "if they found plants on a planet in orbit around another star, how would that change your life?" I'll bet after some period where people think "oh wow" the majority would go on living their lives as before. It wouldn't change gov't or business or anything, although some fundamentalists might argue the scientists made it up.
  6. That's not unusual. Many SecDefs as well as those lower down in the DoD heirarchy worked (or will work) in defense contractors. In fact, it's pretty common for those in an industry and the gov't agency that (directly or indirectly) covers it to see a continuous cross pollination of people. Part of it makes sense, that you want people that know the other side working with you so you don't get surprised, but it's also blatantly incestuous and there are few if any regulations against it. That's saying nothing of course about the whole "gov't jobs as former military wellfare" racket that sees not the best people but merely the best qualified vets getting spots even if the vets are clearly not as experienced or capable. While the idea that some vets may have a hard time getting a civilian job after they get out and need a hand has merit, in practice it means "vet with some vague inkling of what the job needs" gets the spot over "outside expert that could really make things work better."
  7. There's also that line between life and intelligent life. Frankly, if they find moss and algae and amoebas or whatever, who cares? It will be interesting from a scientific standpoint, but it will have no bearing on anything else. That would only matter if it was in our own solar system. Outside that, all we want to find is someone we could communicate with, and they're saying right now don't hold your breath.
  8. FC has Starforce which means yes, you need to have the disk to run it. You don't need to worry about patching LOMAC first because FC's installer does that for you. You both should have FC patched to 1.12, though.
  9. I've had some Arma missions end that way. That's why the Army is buying new 47Fs and upgrading others to that standard. The design has proven itself.
  10. The problem with using Brit equipment on the planes is logistics. Do we have spares? Do we have techs that know how to repair them? What is their interoperability with the existing USMC equipment? Just because the stuff is good doesn't mean it's practical to use in a new environment.
  11. LOMAC's last patch was 1.02 I think. FC starts at 1.1 and goes up to the final 1.12 patch. You can't patch LOMAC to that level, you must buy FC to fly with someone else with FC. FC2 uses the DCS:BS engine so if you have problems with that, you'll have problems with FC2. I flew FC 1.12 for years doing many co-ops, it's a great sim and there are tons of missions out there you can find to fly. The only problem is the AMRAAM is pretty much screwed in that version, so flying the F-15C became pointless. Fly any other plane, or fly AGAINST an AI F-15, and it's fine. FC2 fixed that, but as mentioned it has MP compatibility with DCS:BS, not LOMAC/FC.
  12. There are lots of ways to define a "legend", so I wouldn't jump the gun on predictions. We'll find out in due course.
  13. The part they failed to mention is when it fired, it shot down a Bf 109!
  14. LOL, I remember those concepts. I'm talking about solving partial differential equations, matrices, etc.
  15. Para ingles, ocho.
  16. Training and experience are both necessary, because there's no way to cover it all in training, and there's little chance you'll remember everything years later if you've not used it. I can't even begin to list the things I've forgotten about physics I knew just 15 years ago!
  17. Because they don't want to pay people to answer the phone anymore.
  18. Depends on your definition of "changing the game". I mean, is making aces wild a "game changer" for poker? Sure, to some extent, but it's still poker.
  19. Yes...because Roswell wasn't aliens, they were humans from the future!!!

  21. Well...it looks the same.
  22. I'll bet my in-laws' teacup poodle's bite force is quite a bit lower than average.

Oh you needed a whole new system? I literally haven't done that (aside from laptops) since 1992!! The PC I use now is that same machine upgraded piece by piece multiple times. It was a 486DX2 50 at the time. It since became a DX120, Pentium 100, 166, PII 350, P3 550, 700, Athlon 1.2GHz...ah, you get the idea.

    Top Gear

LOL, never even seen a part of one. Never manage to catch it.
  25. My problem with The Final Countdown is the SF part of it is weak, while the aviation side is strong. That said, TFC and TG are the only 2 "aviation" film I own, both featuring the F-14. Well, some have included Tora, Tora, Tora, and I have that, but that's not quite the same.
