I tried some TODs from Starys excellent Darwin repaint, just changed the hue a bit of the trees, what do you think? Too dense?
 -
Found the reason why the transitions were missing their trees, a typo in the TOD file name The floating trees can be fixed by commenting out the shader name in teralphaobjects like so EffectShaderName= //terAlphaObject.fx Will upload full version soon, though I'd like more opinions first.

Hi Gerwin, thanks again for your continuing support of this editor! I have one idea, might be easy to implement or not, dont know, but here goes: Could it be possible to have the editor load a map image to aid placement of rivers and cities which you could switch to back and forth like you can switch between height map and tile map now? Maybe just a BMP file with say _map in the end. So if I load Desert4.TFD and there is a Desert4_Map.bmp present it will load it too? I think this would be a real winner feature among mappers!

Yeah it's something with the terrain aplha object settings.. I had a fix from Iran/Iraq will dig it up. Yeah the transitions need some TODs, tbh they are just placeholders for now.

And now, a bit of a old dog in an unfriendly word. Taking it for a spin in a 1975-era environment I knew it was not going to be a cakewalk. I made my ingress with care and was concentrating on the bombsight when I had a slight.. ermm.. setback. Apparently 40mm shells are bad for the health of this puppy.

So it more or less works now but dont wanna upload officially before some else puts some eyes on this, so enjoy and tell me what needs fixing. Suggestions are very welcome! Hope i got all the files. Put into Terrains/Desert4 and overwrite if it asks to. Backing up might be a good idea but it should not break anything. Desert4UpgradeBeta1.7z

Ok I tired adding some more of JSF Aggies textures as a new texture type for flat areas in the low mountain elevation range. Need to find a good TOD file to go with too. Currently the texture types are as follows for elevation, starting at lowest: Desert Desert Hills Mountains / Mountain plains High Mountains / green valleys/plains Snow capped peaks Thoughts appreciated. EDIT: Oh and Baffmeister i have good TOD for that one already but would need one with sparse trees for the new type shown

Well sure. But what if? All it would take is one Navy nut prince or Sheik and a boatload of money. Aanyways, if I ever get to release my campaign I will make it optional. EDIT: And also, having a carrier would enable Dhimar to strike targets in the rear of Parans defences where they are more vunerable to attack, without having to cross the SAM-line behind the border.

Once I get the MiG-21 files from Carlo I can maybe make a playable pack for Paran and a campaign file to go with it... We got the trappings of a whole mod here I think. Also, since Mario is making a Skyhawk how do we feel about a small carrier for Dhimar, something like the Melbourne or Argentinas Veinticinco de Mayo?

I forgot to say that the textures are JSF Aggies except the green mountain valleys they are by Stary. Now the problem is the grey mountain regions like those around D9 and D10 airbase, they are quite bland. Maybe need to have some texture type to show up there on low sloped areas, ideas?

Planning map as seen in TFDtool. Dont know when but if I give this priority it could be pretty soon!

Thanks, yeah I like the Lightning in desert camo. My plan was to use the desert snake camo as seen on the Tu-22 for the Paranis. The problem is that there are not very many high-res templates available for the Red birds. Currently I got Il-28 and Tu-22 I got from Enoc, and hoping to borrow Carlos MiG-21 temps. The Mirages are covered too of course. But yeah help is welcome!

Hi guys, so I am really loving the new Desert 4 terrain by Piecemeal, however I found the mountain regions very bland because after about 800 meters above sea level there is only one tile set type used. Since I have been working on the Iran/Iraq terrain I had some tiles up my sleeve and did a quick hack jobb in TE and TFDEdtior to make the mountains more interesting. Here are some results, will need to fix some TE errors by hand but is there any interest in this? There is not super many targets in that general area but it makes for some nice scenic moments flying there.

I'm having a fun time with the stock 1975 campaign modded for Desert 4.0, with ValAsturs new Dhimari planes plus some personal mods of mine. Rough ORBAT for Dhimar Squadrons 2x Lightning F.53 (new built A la Kuwait and Saudi) 3x F-5E (new built obviously) 1x A37B (dito) 1x Hunter (old airframes given new life) 4x F-4E/J (ex USN airframes and new built F-4Es) 2x F-100D (ex USAF received in the 60s) 2x F-104 (new builds received in the 60s) 2x F-105 (new builds received in the 60s) Creates a pretty good mix, and not unreasonable I think for a oil-rich country in the middle of air force modernization.
