oops, I missed the Pro in the title & just saw x52 in the body ... Yes, that's true of any Saitek controller other than the type that it was created on - the commands will still be there but just need reassigning. Someone has also made an utility that converts X52 profiles to X52 Pro but afaik it only works under SD6 (beta).

Looks like the main benefit (at least for the Indians) was learning how to work/work with an AWACs.
