  1. Russian T-72B3 and T-80BVMs side armour ERA

I reckon you guys have a thing or two to say about invasions by dictators getting too full of themselves
  2. The main issue I have when flying Red Air is Sparrows kicking me in the face once Phantoms become more common, when in reality most of those shots wouldn't have been taken without ID being possible, you could reduce Sparrow's theorical rmax range to represent that. Other than that, early on, I would take a MiG-17 or a MiG-19 (stock) against pretty much everything in a dogfight. If you mean with mods, it is pretty much how they are set up. Not that it is completely unrealistic though.
  3. Ghost of Kyiv

It seems it was more or less the same, they were stalking them at crazy low levels. The footage which was initially dubbed as a Russian Fulcrum launching a rocket salvo at civilians, with a kid crying on the background (got me pissed like crazy) seemed to be an Ukranian Fulcrum ripple firing R73s with one of them going dud into the building. It sounds crazy, but I want to believe there was one guy who pulled that off. Hell, just several of them stacking the VVS would be as good really.
  4. Sorry, one of my laziest yet. Probably will spend more time writing the post than making this. In the early 40s, many of the factions who supported Franco during the Spanish Civil War had become disenchated, seeing Spain as subservient towards Nazi Germany, seeing no signs of restoration and watching other fascist dictatorships fail, and by 1944, with the Allies landing in Normandy and making a German intervention all but impossible, took the opportunity ousted the General in favour of Juan III, heir of Alfonso XIII, last king before the Republic, which in turn reinstated a constitutional monarchy, who joined the Allies against Germany, although by that time and still in poor condition after the war, there wasn't much Spain could do to contribute to the Allied war effort other than seasoned veterans and new supply and attack routes. Having been trained by the Royal Navy, Juan III was considered an Anglophile, and during the efforts to rebuild the country after the war, the Gloster Meteor became the first jet fighter of the Spanish Air Force, seeing combat in Korea and Western Sahara. Stock F8, Syrian camo with arab numerals replaced with the Israeli ones. It really took me more time to come up with the alternate story than getting the skin. Edit: Just felt like I had to add some more. After Korea, it was clear the Meteor was useful but obsolescent, and a new fighter was needed. While the Hawker Hunter was promising, it was the Canadair Sabre Mk6 that was selected This is my FrankenSabre. I couldn't stop getting the proper Mk6 to stall and spin, but the F-86F40 was foolproof enough to me, so I copy-pasted an Orenda on it along with a ton of other things. It has so many mismatched parts I can't credit properly, but to name a few, Zur, Wrench, PauloPanz... The skin was Ethiopian, I think, but could be Iranian or South African It is indeed Strahi's Ethiopia, butchered a bit. I just had several generic looking ones made to save space.
  5. Sabre talk?

In yet another of my on and off obsessions with specific aircraft, I can't keep the F-86 off my head lately, so I felt like starting a discussion about it to share thoughts, stories and anything else. For example, I've been daydreaming lately about a "definitive dayfighter Sabre", as in having a J65, 4x20mm cannon and the F40 wing with Sidewinder rails, what would you think about something like that?
  6. Didn't the Luftwaffe order some 600 Taurus missiles with Merkel already? It seems weird to spend so much in ALCMs if you won't get enough AAMs for your air defence
  7. Sabre talk?

Well, that's what the Australian Sabres had, I still feel like the goldilocks zone was 20mm, hitting hard enough but enough ammo and muzzle velocity. That being said, I wonder if some aircraft could have been better of with another brand of these. Perhaps the USN could have done better with M39s, I don't recall reading anything wrong about them in the F-100 or F-5, it would be strange if they had electrical issues shipborne when they had Sidewinders with no issue.
  8. Sabre talk?

I knew about the Gunvals, I was thinking more about something like Navy FJ2/3s for cannon arrangement, but i guess they would have had the same issues. It feels like .50 cals wouldn't punch hard enough, but it isn't like that prevented them to do right over Korea. Regarding the wing, wouldn't the latest style, with the 6-3 plus width extensions plus slats be better all around? AFAIK Canadair Sabres didn't have it, while CACs stuck with the slatless 6-3. Which would be another interesting issue themselves with 30mm guns
  9. Sabre talk?

I do love the K, although I wonder if it could really be as good as it is ingame, with the added weight. There was an afterburning J65 in the F11F, it could have been...wait, BRB.
  10. Ouch, I like to whine about what i wish we had, but i guess i should just shut up
  11. Pardo's Push

Don't forget the absent minded guy who tried to do the same in WW2 with a Corsair to help a Zero, but ended up cutting its tail with the prop. Oopsie.
  12. No PIRATE? Old prototype?
  13. Welcome to the game! I think you got it in the wrong folder somehow. The game does make a "mod" folder by default, in saved games/thirdwire/strikefighters2, normally. There are the different folders where mods are read from. Most mods here are ready to drop on that folder and just fire up the game and have them work, although it is better to take a look at the readme first to see how it is meant to be installed
  14. Not sure wether to say I'm sorry or congratulations, but I wish you the best
  15. It will be heartbreaking when I tell my girlfriend, after so long, that the time and money I was going to spend with her this year in a wedding, a home and starting a family is going to this.
  16. Welcome! Be aware that this might become somewhat of an addiction. Regarding the vision, I use a cheap ass stick (I just read it, a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) and all that I need for the game, which is quite simple for all it provides, is there or i can use the left hand on the keyboard, including throttle settings and vector, looking around and zooming in and out...Radar and radio controls are left to the keyboard, as you can only switch targets, modes and ranges (no way to slew it, I'm afraid). There are a couple of stock single missions already made for carrier take off and landing, but you can also use the editor (the pencil icon on the single mission screen). You might want to switch for an A-7 or F-14 since the modern HUD works for the AoA, stock Phantoms need a little tweaking IIRC
  17. The scandal after the incident of Palmdale and the MightyMouse fiasco led to a rush to phase out these air to air rockets. In many cases, it was solved with new interceptors or replacing them with Falcon missiles in existing types, however a very sizeable fleet of F-86Ds was to remain in service for a while and then be passed on to ANG units. Many of those were refitted with new F-86F40 wings (please play along, I kept the tips out of frame) , new electronics, including capability to operate with SAGE, better engine and, most noticeably a new weapons set up, replacing the rocket tray with the cannon arrangement of the F-86Ks and adding Sidewinder missile rails. The redesignated F-86Ls would become the backbone of the ANG during much of the 1960s, with a few being deployed to Vietnam and Thailand to provide air defense against the odd raid and a good adversary to simulate MiG-17s on training.
  18. Iranian F-14s in Retrospect

As a side note, I've always been impressed by the Mirage F1. Reading specs alone it doesn't feel like it would perform as good as it did historically against MiG-23s and F-14s
  19. Does this keep your attention? My Air Force One Video.

It didn't feel like 3 minutes, certainly got me hooked
  20. Of course, I guess that number is just a hard limit, in the end it will depend on your thrust and drag. But merely changing that number already worked, which might be some sort of asymptote, since it didn't just accelerate at the same pace and just stop when it reached the mach number.
  21. Messing with the stock F-104C data ini With the original I managed to get .96, with the modified one it was past 1.07, but they still don't get all the way to the limit, with both clean and in a shallow dive. Mind you, I also buffed the engine to GE-19 levels of thrust, an engine only used with F-104S and a few F-104As, AFAIK
  22. I thought it was an advert for the real thing and I was wondering "What better advert than the Nov 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war?"
  23. Spain approves Eurofighter buy, upgrades

If we upgraded the Typhoons we had, and replaced the Hornets and Harriers with F-35A and Bs on a one to one basis, I would build a palace for every member of Parliament. But while it is what would make sense to me, I don't know how it could happen.
  24. I guess Vietnam, with all the US stuff they kept using after the war. Not that it would really matter, but i would still go with the theorical "underdog"
  25. Once I get a proper house where i can place a desktop kick-ass liquid-cooled gaming computer and all the fluff...and before i get married and she forbids it, I'm diving so hard on DCS
