YAP for strike fighters 2
daddyairplanes replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
i dont have any main parts of YAP, but have been reading these forums and talkin to modders for a few years now. to the best of my understanding, there is no overall fix for the whole product. each individual part needs to be adjusted, and some things just dont translate (air to air refueling being the biggie off the top of my head). the objects of greatest interest can be upgraded per the usual methods. other parts can be substituted from SF2 items (terrains, campaigns single missions) finally, as with everything, the modders work on what is of interest to them. YAP doesnt have the best reputation amongst some of the older heads around here for various reasons (my personal one being many models and skins for payware are below what i expect from here in house freeware. if im paying for it, it should be better than the free). it does have many things that are not available (ie F-100F) and is an excellent add on for Gen1. But the interest is not as great to get it all into Gen 2 from the modders (esp the old school ones) im not so sure that there is as few modders as implied, but those of us actively releasing has dwindled. there are plenty of ways to get into it without even spending too much dough. GIMP will create jpegs and tgas just as well as Photoshop, and with Mues exporter one can use Blender instead of 3ds max 2009 (which is a pain to find a legal copy of). As always it boils down to time and willingness. but we all got started somewhere -

Nuclear Weapons Redux (70s and 80s)
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
so i've been going through KB331's old weapons kit and looking at the nukes. there are some issues noted, and once again im asking for any modeler to help out and knock out some simple yet more accurate shapes. by the numbers B28RE this is the parachute retarded version of the B28 external carry bomb. current version in game does not have a chute, and has four fins to 3 IRL B53 9 megaton special weapon back end needs corrected with wedge shape, fins thicker B43 70kt and 1.1MT nuclear weapon this actually looks ok in game. however, the original max file had the bmp named as B-58pods and the white areas next to and on the orange chute? thats all the mapped space for the weapon(not any of the stuff in the upper half) given its a 256x256 bmp, its a very small space to detail. it also needs a parachute retarded version, as well as regular. in photos seems to be no difference in shape between the versions B83 Nuclear weapon it just seems a bit off in the fin shape, and the nose is stepped rather than smooth. not a high priority compared to others. a redux would also need a chute to retard it B57 nuclear bomb and depth charge we dont have this at all as far as i can tell. B28FI, RI, and EX models are good to go, the Mk41/B41 bomb and Hound Dog missile are good with light reskinning, B61 has been updated in depth recently, and SRAM probably good to go with reskin. i can do major skinning once a map (even all one color) is provided, and aim to release a post 1968 pack (after all MKxx weapons became Bxx). this was originally to be a release of all the B28 models (KB331s updated and russouk2004s new models) but once again im getting ambitious. ini work i can also handle, just not the models (esp those needing chutes) thank you in advance for any help you modelers can give, and hopefully this one can get knocked out fairly quickly -

one project wraps up another one begins meanwhile, is a string of B61s across a truck park excessive? gotta scoot. theres a dozen Floggers out there pissed off. something bout their airbase being a dump target for the other dozen B61s hey look! Strategic (Euro1) camo works well in urban environments (thats the MiG that was closest to me and had me locked on. 10000 pts to the one that can find me in the last screenshot. but i know i aint gettin them points) -

when you do, AND if anyone does a conversion in blender, a tutorial record of the steps would be useful. could help get some other cooks into the 3d kitchen -

the S64 Skycrane could be skin modified into a CH-54 Tarhe, and the Caravelle would go nicely into Tan Son Nhut for Vietnam mods there are several others that would do well to get the aircraft out of Capun or the FB page monopolies and open to all the big question (esp to the 3d guys) is what would need done to convert into SF2? @Wrench you may want to look at this for the WW2 stuff, see if they are versions we dont have or are on verboten sites. ie it says TBF Avenger, you could tell better than me (or most of us) if its a specific version -

on another edition of two seater tuesday or twice the fun its ladies night, and sure to be a hot one if these birds get angry -
yeah, can vouch for bout everything but the jammer hopefully the earplug case ads go away since i didnt file by Saturdays deadline (we'll see). but dear GAWD they are persistent and annoying the CENTCOM AOR does in fact have a lovely fragrance of diesel fumes and shit. with special varieties such as the Kandahar Airfield Poo Pond. some Vietnam guys i knew say the same so maybe its a deployment thing, but defineatly true through all the finer wars in the Middle East some guys have gone nuts from the malaria meds. some of us trusted our government soo much we took a pill and chucked it in the trash daily (you could get inspected to see if you were taking them) and the burn pits in Balad AB (LSA Anaconda) were regular enough that if it was snowing ash by my CHU, it must be 1715. time to get dinner

yeah scratch earlier comment on the IN, posted from phone and was forgetting about that slight taper on the back end my google comment still stands. ravenclaw, that last pic is the best graphic on the building block quality of the B28 package i've seen in probably over 150 hours now of image hunting nukes -

daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
My observation on the IN is that dropping the chute containers ( big cylinder in back) and placing fins on the main body should be workable. It wasnt retarded, and fit in a Thud's bombbay, so not too big. Google searches remind me of a tv show a few years back, loosely based on Delta ( or CAG or whatever theyre called today). At the end of one episode, they said "loosen the kill chain". Vague, loose inputs often seem to get better results than precise inputs. And for those wondering about the episode, they capture, then release one of their own who'd gone rogue. Then watched to see who he contacted, to see who they contacted, to find the actual target. -
hey, i've said capital punishment should be a pay per view event. revenue for the states, and might restore the preventative power of such events (encourage folks to get out of such lifestyle so they arent in a future edition of Friday Night Flickering Lights)

little bump to let you all know this is still going found lindr2's model for the Mk17 15 mt weapon. only able to be carried by the B-36. got it into game, fitted out the B-36 to carry it the SHAPE is actually fairly good. the SIZE needs work, as two of four bomb bays had to be merged together IRL to carry it -
Maybe someone might want to do a RAAF B-1B?
daddyairplanes replied to JosefK's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
get back to you around then, FB-111 should be done and released by then and nukes seems to be a slow burner project. my SAC project involves cleaning up the Euro1 paint job and positioning decals, so not too far off to adjust a decal.ini for the Ozzies. can do the same for the grey scheme that followed as i want to do the ANG Bones too (just not the GWOT active wings) would Aussie humor have them now called Bone B.1? -

gonna disagree with any air to air capability on grounds of cost (yeah i know its a game and ini edits are free) the cost to upgrade for a2a for any future user would make it more than its worth, esp with the maintenance costs to keep them airworthy. HARMs is kinda pushin it i think and crews could use NOE tactics and jammers like past and current Bone crews both proposals center around AGM-158C LRASM which at the moment is only cleared on the F/A-18E and B-1B. one of which is used by both proposed users, the other proposed for those users.
