Welcome Deadangle, I'm glad to hear you are having such a hard time staying alive. I'm sure it makes a few of us oldtimers feel good as dieing is commonplace. The replay value of this sim is super high and the challenge it presents will keep me flying it for years. Please see the OFF Pilots of the World sticky and consider giving Olham your hometown and Nationality. It's in the name of fun and it's interesting to know where our brother pilots are located. Best wishes for you in your OFFing. Let the drinking begin, oh yeah, you're buying

For People thinking of buying this game

Good review. Good luck in getting people to give OFF BH&H a try. I understand wanting to share this experience with anyone who has an interest in this field. -
Anyone knows, where Rooster is?
Rickitycrate replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion

I do think yours said "Combat Ace is my life"

I don't have an answer for #1. Number 2, your solution for now is to select Regional Air Activity to High in the workshop if you have not done so already. You may see more action. In general the early war gives less action for now, until more types of planes are added, and was historicly a slow time as well. Pick a time in 1916 and it seems the further north the better.

Iti, it's about survival. The waypoints AFAIK do not matter. If you have to put her down try to do so on our side of the line. Stay alive to fly again, or select pilot never dies, takes away the suspense for me I find. You have a lot of choices you can make regarding the difficulty in the workshop. Fly to your current abilities and have some fun getting used to a particular plane, they're all different to handle and use different tactics for effectiveness. OFF is yours now, fly how you want and have fun. Eventually DiD is really something to try but maybe work your way up to it. Mission successfull or not? If you lived consider that a success and fly again. Pilot never dies setting does prevent having to create a new pilot all the time. Just some thoughts. Did you contact Olham with your Earthly location to be on the OFF map? Please do so. It's nice to have you with us. You know where to come if you need any help. See you in the sky, maybe on your six. Cheers

It's Time To Play,"What's My Plane" !
Rickitycrate replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks Lou, best wishes for your trip. Take a breather gents. -
Excellent tutorial Erik. FYI, I'm not seeing any problems, I am thinking prevention here. So all your input is right on the mark to help me maintain my laptop. I can't afford to replace it so I better take care of it. Thanks also to FastCargo and Uncleal.

FC, I can see your points and I agree. Thanks for sharing your experience. I like the idea of the back being higher as the warm air will flow in that direction passively drawing the heat away.
-
No Unc, not that high. Right now I estimate the rubber pads give a 1/8th inch clearance and if I feel the desk top after a flight the desk top is pretty warm as well as the front left corner of the laptop get s hot. So I am thinking of a quarter inch clearance or even up to 1/2 . May be overdoing but I fail to see any harm. Those USB fan units are a gimmik I think. Just let it breathe.

Duce, sounds like time very well spent.

Iti, thanks, and just so you know, these WWI airplanes have no brakes anyway.

Hi, I don't mean to hijack the thread but I am very interested in the pedals you've mentioned as I am on a budget. I just saw a Logitech USB Driving wheel/pedal set at one of my thrift stores. Would you have any idea if this would work? I'm running Vista.

Well now after searching the net it sounds like the muffin pan is not such a bad idea. I think I'll just design some elevator shoes to raise the machine from the surface it sits on now. I seldom use it on my lap, figures doesn't it. Main thing is to increase the airflow.

Ha! You always have an idea. May not be practicle but you're always thinking. You do give me the idea to see if there is a Consmer Reports article out there. Thanks Uncleal.

Iti, good for you. It really is someting isn't it. I'm happy to hear you are in the sky. You know where to get the info you need. Keep us informed of you OFF experience. Happy flying to you

Hi guys, I run OFF on my laptop. It does a fair job but I want to switch to a desktop as soon as I can because I am a bit concerned about the heat generated while playing OFF for extended periods. My question is; does anyone have experience with those laptop coolers you can set your laptop on? Are they a gimmick, can anyone recommend a brand? Any advice is appreciated. I try to keep the dust off the little screen but it seems to collect fast.

For me with Vista I have to start TIR first with run as administrator.

I can't help but wonder if it was a flight from another Jasta as Olham suggests. Fun read tho.

New airplane ideas for OFF?
Rickitycrate replied to mojojojo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I remember watching that sillyassed show but I can't remember the name. -
I've put my crate down on the turf after running out of ammo or being crippled. I like to sit there and enjoy the different views and any action. A few times while leasurely looking about I was almost hit by falling/crashing aircraft at very close range. Very loud when your engine is off, made me jump, and some explosion to see. Great fun.

Very interesting thread and this last post has an intriquing idea. I really like the Walfisch and any expansion of it in the sim would be welcome to me.

New airplane ideas for OFF?
Rickitycrate replied to mojojojo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
More is coming from our outstanding deveolpement team. N28 for sure as well as others and all will be flyable. Many new guys wonder about this topic so I understand your question. As with most questions of this type the devs can not give any promises to what planes or especially when. We have had polls in this forum, searches should show results if you care to look. Our team have their hands full with OFF addons and even the next version, P4, and then thier is reall life. So patience is good to practice. Us oldtimers know we will be rewarded. The devs, team OBD, are not only outstanding they are very generous. They've seen our wishlists and have thier own too I imagine. The planes that look to be definate are: Fokker EV pics have been posted Niueport 24 pics have been posted and a whole long list of Spad XIII's with historic skins As an example of the work and generousity of OBD, the Superpatch came out of the blue with no warning or hype. For many it seemed to be the next phase or P4 it had so many upgrades. Cost? No charge. They wanted to share it with us. Additional planes we be payware, if that's the correct term, and will be offered at a fair price. But it must be remembered that for many of the planes we want to see the missions also need to be written. The damage model, flight model and historic skins for numerous aces and squads make for a large undertaking and much time. I believe this post to be correct and I hope it is helpful. Know that OBD are aware of any gaps and needs regarding aircraft.
