OT: Jack Skellington vs RUSH - Happy Halloween
OvS replied to OvS's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks fellas, I'm glad you all like it. It was challenging to make, but a lot of fun to boot. Especially the simulated Geddy and Alex on simulated skeletal bass/guitar. OvS -
Taken from : German Aircraft of the First World War - Gray and Thetford, 1962. As usual, contradictory to everything we know. Just adds more speculation to the life of the E.V/D.VIII at the front.

I was just trawling through a few photos on the RAF BE2 series of aircraft, and I suddenly came to terms with the reality of how flimsy these planes really were. Take a look for yourself and you must agree, they really were mad to fly these things around, especailly knowing what we know now about micro-bursts, down drafts, thermals, winds... etc... add in the obvious that you're being shot at, in a structure that is highly flamable from all aspects. Here is the rudder and tail section... I think it gets the point across that is was all just thin bent metal bar, some wood ribs, and painted (doped) fabric. Nothing more. It's amazing that anyone could have ANY sense of personal security in one of these deathtraps, let alone confidence that it wouldn't just fall apart around them. OvS

OT: Jack Skellington vs RUSH - Happy Halloween

Just a little fun thing I did 2 years ago which I posted on the SOH forum at the time. I recently was playing with Sony Vegas trying to learn how to use it and decided to remake the video, only better. If you like Rush, and the work of Tim Burton, you'll enjoy this. Make sure you let it play till the end. ;) So with the season of Halloween upon us... enjoy! OvS -
Simon, Dump Norton... get AVG and ZoneAlarm... and use FireFox... I go with this combo every time and it works very well. No issues or call back. Now and then run SpyBot to check any extras didn't tag along. All the best, OvS

Inspiration for Hell's Angels? Well... booze... insanity... Shred... and DeltaK calling my patch no more than my 'simpatch' folder... LOL! Seriously... I did it because I hated all the single patches you had to load in order to make RB3D look half-way decent. From there, it mushroomed into my own Homebrew patch and honed my love and interest in WWI. From there, Hell's Angels.. and it grew larger and larger. But without key helpers like Shredward, Rabu, Capt Royce, Zintek, Greybeard, DeltaK, and the rest of the SWWISA boys.... HASP would have remained no more than my simpatch folder. OvS

Wow, very nice! Wear that one with pride! Great job, but I'll admit to it... from the start... I had my money on you! LOL! -
It would suit your cause far better to send information like this to the OFF Dev Team, rather than make a generalizing statement that 'you've actually made... ' etc.. to a group of Community members that had no play in the development of the Flight Parameters. They might be that way beacuse the AI was having troubles flying the respective planes, and we needed to find a balance... they might be that way as an over-sight... I don't know. Polovski, Winder and Rex worked their tails off to get the AI to fly WWI data from flying WWII FM's. It took months to perfect. So there could be room for impovement if there was a mistake... Either way, if you found something wrong, kindly pass the info over to the OBD Dev Team by email and I am sure we'll be happy to look into it. All the best, OvS

Question to our German Friends
OvS replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, it was. Mostly in Pennsylvannia though... NY was British, Italian, and Irish while Long Island became the home to many German settlements. Not sure why. My home town of Lindenhurst was ripe with pre-WWII Nazism everywhere. Look-up the town name on Wilkapedia some time... it will shock you. There were also reports of U-Boats off the coast of Long Island on a daily basis during WWII. There is one still sitting out there, under the sea, as well as all along the coast of the Eastern USA. The Dark Side thing I think came from the SOH Forum... it's really just a OFF thing. Isn't that cool? -
Question to our German Friends
OvS replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Negative.... Texas is not from the South... Texas is a COUNTRY located south of Oklahoma, and North of Mexico... it just so happens to share the same colors on it's flag as the rest of the USA. When I was there for training with American Airlines on 767/757 Avionics in Dallas, I had a ball. Texas is one of the coolest states... errr.... sorry... Countires I have ever been in. And until you've been to Texas, you won't understand what I am saying. I'm surprised I didn't get killed, me with my heavy NY accent... but a lot of the guys (and ladies ) I met and spoke to got a kick out of it... I even got a chance to brake my ass on a Mechanical Bull!! OvS -
Question to our German Friends
OvS replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I don't mind "The Dark Side" quotes either. Whether good or bad, it was almost 100 years ago. It's a fun, pirate-like refernece that gives some 'bad-boyish' nature to enjoying the German side. In my personal experience, I've never met a German I didn't like, and probably won't, so I know there is no truth to any of the 'Dark' references. So for the sake of having fun.... I'm happy and proud to serve for Lord Vader... and the Dark Side!! Besides... as Winder will happily tell you... if it weren't for Makai, Paarma, and myself (representing the Dark Side Boy's) ... OFF would be a German Turkey shoot... OvS -
Sweet... glad you like the game! I see you found the heart of what it's all about real quick... that is a dynamic campaign and total immersion!!! Well... if you're from Long Island, NY... Zahn's Airport? It was a top notch airport back in the 40-70's and many folks on Long Island got their PL's there. It was owned by a guy named Zahn (possibly Eric?) and was located on a section of his farm. It was closed in 1980 (the last known accident at Zahn's Airport was a Cessna 172 which was flying at night during the Chistmas season, the pilot became confused, stalled, and slammed into my friend Mark Zelko's house!!) in favor of the more modern and larger Farmingdale/Republic Airport. Again.. I might be really off here... but it is the same last name as the airport, so it was worth a shot. I spent a lot of time there as a kid washing planes for rides!! OvS

Question to our German Friends
OvS replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I agree with Mike on the 'Hun' origin. I think it dates back to Germania, when it was ruled by so called Barbarians, which the Romans constantly tangled with. Barbarians were also called Huns as well.... so maybe that's one place. As far as the whole name thing.. it never bothered me. We have all kinds of names here in the states for everything and everyone... I could make a list a mile long and not get them all on it. It's only offensive when used to be offensive... other than that, I like that we have fun with it. You're all good guys and should goof on each other. It's better that way. It adds to our immersion and love of history... especially in this era. All the best! OvS PS I work for a British company... so I call all my closer British friends "F'n Lymies" and they call me the "F'n Yank'. ;) -
Jim, Has it ever been considered that Udet was not as 'vicious' a pilot as MvR? Udet's goal was to take out the plane, not the pilot, and as we all know, MvR was the opposite. So it stands to say that there could have been more on Udet's kill list than he actually got credit for had his mentality been more forcefull. I give the Udet vs Guynemer duel, where Guynemer released Udet from the mele knowing his guns were jammed. Had that been MvR, or any of the J11 clan, with Guynemer in the position Udet was in, would MvR let him go? I doubt it. MvR was a better fighter pilot than Udet, by the rules of engagement. But Udet really was not a fighter pilot by definition, he lacked that killer instinct and instead felt a good pilot should be able to land a damaged machine, and often left it at that. Udet was really a true pilot in a bloody war. This is another of those debates that offers hours of great speculation... can you imagine if we could somehow simulate MvR vs Udet? That would be incredible! OvS
-
Ernst Udet was a far better pilot than most give him credit for basing it solely on kill #'s. If you look at his kill list, there are more single seat scouts on it that 2-seaters. Not putting MvR down here, but I'd say it takes more skill to knock out another scout than a slower 2-seater, even with a rear-firing MG pointed at you. MvR was to Fonck as Udet was to Guynemer. OvS

Looks awesome Ohlam, Just pull down the upper wing placement a little, you've got it a little high and it's showing the lozenge at the trailing edge. This is definately one of the nicest skins you've made... other than that Pfalz checkerboard skin. :) OvS

AVG here, daily run.. no issues on my end.

Albatros D III photos for skinners & historians
OvS replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Nice ones!!! I love the Fokker D.II, it really shows how badly the paint wiped away from the Castor oil dripping on the side of the fuselage. It's amazing how these planes ever flew. All you needed was a match, and instant shooting flare. The Jasta 12 shot is nice as well. Open field, planes all lined up, bright sunny day... man you could alomst feel the sun on your face in that shot. Great stuff. I wish we could identify that Alb D.Va. It's definately a higher Jasta, maybe in Italy. OvS -
Albatros D III photos for skinners & historians
OvS replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes Ohlam... I agree... these are awesome! Thanks as always. Meyer is in MJF I (or II) as I did it myself, so he's in, but I have never seen this photo of his plane. Where did you find these... ah... never mind. There is an old saying... never look the gift-horse in the mouth. Just keep 'em coming! OvS PS... Paarma, if I have to guess, I'd say these were from the East Front as Switzerland is pretty far from anything an Alb D.III could have done from Northern France. Maybe they are from a Flik or a high Jasta number from the Southern area of France? The OAW D.III was still being used in numbers in those areas. Man... imagine finishing the war, and flying that puppy home to your farm, and keeping it for yourself! I guess the high maintenance would eventually kill it... but it would be fun for a little while buzzing the back-woods. -
Been there with the Jets.... the Kotite years: Year 1 landed us a fine 2-14 season, year 2, the 'rebuilding year' landed a whopping 1-15!!! Hang in there, the Lions are a good team and will turn the corner soon. :) OvS

Aside from my wife and daughter... whom I both love dearly.... My 66 Nova Wagon.... And this.... this and more of this...(those are the Jets in their blue NY Titans "throwback" uniforms killing Chris Johnson) OvS

Ohlam, Nice work! The hardest part of skinning is really getting the colors right... or at least close. The only color I would check again is the light green. It should be a shade lighter. Other than that, the rest look spot on. Unfortunately this fabric looks to be the underside, or the inside, whereas the dye penetrates through it. Maybe email them and see if the other side can be photographed? As for the Roden models... I have a bunch of 1/72 and they rock. The decals suck, but the model, detail and quality are very good. OvS
