  1. This is probably only a start, but hopefully it will lead to us discovering what is causing this distracting distortion for some of us, while others don't seem to have the problem. And it may lead to a solution. Typically, the following distortions occur when rapid movement is made inside the cockpit, they are so rapid that they appear as a flash, but are quite noticeable. I would say it's not a game breaker, you do tend to get used to it, but it would be great if we can find a solution for the problem. From many of the comments it seems to happen more on clear days and is less obvious or absent on cloudy or dark days. One player noted that it happens more when he is also trying to make a video recording using Fraps as he flies, and is much less severe or absent when not recording. The purpose of this poll is to try to isolte the problem to system specs or hardware and to TrackIR use, or non use, so all of your inputs and thorough information will be quite valuable. Also, any other thoughts about circumstances that seem to lead to distortions, or those that seem to help eliminate them, or decrease them will be extremely helpful.
  2. And a high speed hard drive can consume 25-30 watts of your PS output.
  3. Getting a bit hot in here, but I think we're all after the same answer, right? The point is that something(s) common to having tearing while using TrackIR seems to be happening, right? Tamper and Morris say they don't have them and both are using TIR Could be the SSD's are what eliminated the problem or something related from using them? The reason I say that is that some others, who don't have SSD's don't get the tearing.. why? If we could figure out why, maybe expensive SSD's wouldn't be necessary as a fix? I'm really curious about this, how about a pol? I'm going to start on on who has this and who doesn't and ask that you each give full specs.. maybe something will emerge.
  4. Hi, Uncleal, not sure what you are saying... you have a water cooled system?
  5. Thanks for replying, very interesting... Hellshade, what PS are you using in your rig?
  6. Parky, or some one.. please comment about power supply capibilities related to all this. I brought it up earlier and no one made a comment. When I tried to upgrade to a Nvidia GTX-260 with my present system that has a Antec Trio-650w PS I had problems of video flashing and cutting, much like in the videos Hellshade is having trouble with, and then, as the PS heated up under load I got the dredded blue screen of death. After talking to techs at Antec they convinced me that not having enough currant abilities can cause all sorts of weird graphics problems and even crashes, they said it's something ignored by many when they add on graphics cards that depend on a lot of currant draw. And the problem is that PS companies can be very misleading about their products stressing watts over currant, much like the audio amplifiers manufactures like to miss lead consumers stressing power out, but not talking about at what load, whether the dual out puts are in parallel are regulated seperately, etc. Any comments?
  7. Hay! ..is dat da Fonze drivin dat ting?
  8. Can't beleive you were able to pull out of that tumbling spin! Nice one!
  9. Very good point, but I think WM has some ideas on improvements, and that would be welcome by many.
  10. See... I told you guys..
  11. Thanks, SB, I hope Hellshade sees this, would really help with his excellent videos that suffer from tearing alot.
  12. Another gem, Hellshade, and I like the text comments, although it's hard to read them and watch at the same time.. have you thought about adding some spoken narration instead? I think it would be really cool.. Also, ask for some help with your video tearing problem, many here have been able to solve it or lessen it and it would improve your films alot. Thanks again,
  13. Yes, I've seen this mentioned before, in fact, a discussion over on the Riseofflight.com forum about OFF brought it up recently, but... "An Immersion Killer?" with all that's going on in OFF I'm surprised that one thing would be an "immersion killer." And that's strange that would be enough to see you drop OFF, VonOpen, but I guess each player has criteria that are the most important to them. We all welcome you here and would hate to see you go over this one, small "disappointment." To me, and most everyone else who has tried OFF, having a dynamic campaign far outweighs this small glitch in wing mate accountability, when the only other alternative matching OFF, in some ways, is Rise Of Flight, and it has no dynamic campaign at all? Pat Wilson has been working on a scripted campaign for ROF, and that's a big improvement, but it's a far cry from the historically accurate weather, moving front lines, troop campaigns, planes, airfields, etc., etc., And each time you go out flying in OFF you never know what is likely to happen, or where, because it isn't scripted. Plus you've got so many planes to fly and see along with thousands of plane skins, etc. all historically accurate in time and place.. that's what I call IMMERSION. And, though it probably isn't a priority with the devs, I'm sure they will figure out a way to fix this down the line, just as they have with so many other problem decedents from CFS3 that have been fixed over the last couple of years.
  14. This is pretty good, and not an OFF video, but historically interesting.
  15. Be really careful if you upgrade your video card up to the Nvidia GTX-260 or higher series cards.. they require a LOT more power supply current. I had real problems with a GTX260 and finally returned it to NewEgg for a full refund. I contacted Antec, who makes my T3 650w PS and they said it isn't enough for a GTX260 they suggested a single rail PS with 40 amps or a quad rail PS with 25 amps on the 12v 3 and 4 rails. PS voltage doesn't mean that much if it can't handle high current and many manufactures don't make it clear what you get for the money.
  16. Yes, that would be good, even Red Baron has a video there, why doesn't OFF?????
  17. Uncleal, I really don't understand why you are being so negative... some jeliousy here or something? .. very odd reaction on your part. Hellshade, that is a really well done, in fact, that is a really excellent video/advertisement for OFF.. It deserves THREE BIG CHEERS! I'm going to post a link to it on some other fourms, Thanks!
  18. Erik: Could you make it a drop down list so that it is really easy to get to or hide? I'm sure you can... the reason is that I think it's important that when someone enters the General Discussion forum they see all the stickies and then can easily "roll them up," out of the way, to view all the current posts. This should be very easy to do using one promenade button that doesn't take you to another page where you have to come back to the main, General Discussion, forum page. Hope I'm making sense.. You have promenade dark blue buttons labeled "Watch Forum" and "Start New Topic" ..how about a third button labeled, "View Information Posts" or "View Sticky Posts" or something like that that would toggle them on or off? I'm really glad Hellshade posted the request for a video sticky, it's an excellent idea, and along with the other stickies that have information and images, it fits right in with a quick pull down area for those new or interested in learning more about OFF's capabilities and solutions/suggestions. A big thanks, this has got to be the best run forum around..
  19. Ho-ho.. good comments and probably true. What's interesting to me is that where it was allowed, like with the French, only a few aces really went over board with paint schemes that made them really stand out from the rest of their units, while the Germans, even the non aces seemed to do it a lot more. Does that mean the Germans were more egotistical.. braver.. were they just brainwashed into thinking they were invincible? Seems like it would be an interesting comparison based on written bios, etc., to see if there is any trend that can be seen.
  20. It was just a logical assumption.
  21. I would most like to see the map res increased somehow so that one can zoom in to more detail and see roads and land marks better.. maybe by having a smaller jpg map load for a smaller area that would still be within a couple of hours flying radius.. there's got to be some solution for this.
  22. Ahh.. thanks for clarifying all this, Pol.
  23. Leather and horses sweat?
