The men fighting under such stressful conditions with the resistance, almost single handed, and always in the danger to be discovered and then definitely tortured to tell all - these men deserve our most respect, for making the war shorter, for saving many lifes, and for ending the "brown terror" faschist regiment. Simon - hats off to your father! Those Germans, who felt released, after the Nazi dictatorship ended, also owe a lot to men like him. And great, that he doesn't seem to have lost his humour. I'm sure he was proud of his contribution. And, yes, Sir - you could! Edit: my father was a radio operator on a vessel, shipping iron ore from Kiruna, Norway, to Germany. Nothing heroic. But I'm glad to know, he hasn't had to shoot at any of your fathers.

THE RED BARONS GREATEST FEAR!
Olham replied to ONETINSOLDIER's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, Rick, I'm sure he would. But I think he would have liked Snoopy. And he would never have shot this cute little beagle down; he liked dogs, so he would have regarded him as his "opponent friend". -
What's the official range for 'rock throwing'?
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, Lou In 1989, when I was in Cornwall, I had an English breakfast. They brought me baked beans, bacon and eggs, grilled tomatoes and a fried sausage. After that, I could hardly get on my bicycle and felt stuffed all day. But I found out: when I give the sausage a miss, it's fine for sundays - you mustn't cook a warm meal later anymore. And for the tea I say: I am an Ostfriese (East Frieslander - so: east of the West Frieslanders, who are part of the dutch nation). In Ostfriesland, tea is an absolute must, a local speciality. People would rather eat less, than have no tea in the house. But in Cornwall, that lady served the Cornish cream tea with a pot of hot milk. Whn she saw, that I poured the tea into the cup, and only added a teaspoonfull of milk, she rushed back, as if I was about to poise myself. "Have you ever had tea?" she asked. "Yes." "And - ah - didn't you put more milk in?!" "No. Were I come from, we drink it like this." She blushed in despair. "But it surely wasn't as strong, as we do it here? It's meant to be filled up half with milk, to make it drinkable!?!?" "No, thanks", I said, supping a bit "it's pefectly fine, as it is. Almost as strong as I like it at home." She walked away, looking over her shoulder again and again, as if she expected me to drop dead any minute. -
Had this written in another thread, but fits here better: BHaH can really keep you occupied a whole day! First, with a pot of coffee or tea, I check and write in the forum. Then it's time for a morning flight. Then, I do some skinning. After that, eat a little, and come back for a second flight. Then, I care for the map project, I do with DEJ. After that, a third flight. Suddenly the phone rings: were are the print layouts you promised me? I expected them for lunch? And I must bite my tongue, not to say: "That would be rather bad for your digestion, mate! You are disturbing me in nothing less than trying to win the Kaiser's war in my Albatros, single handed! I'll call you back, when I've landed!" PS: Jim - that would be the perfect dream: if you could gain your lady for flying a crate next to yours, in a multiplayer co-op... (Perhaps, if you start a free flight with her first, just to relax, flying over the beautiful scenery in summer?)

I am starting to like the Spad
Olham replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Wow - that's great stuff, indeed! (But you read: they were all after war time, 1919) RICKITY, when you need skinning advice: look into the skinning section of the board, or Gous' tutorial, and ask Widowmaker or me. I will definitely make me an own SPAD and fly it as Capitaine Damien St.Malo (i like to use variations of my family name). And I'll present it here then. But it may take a while. Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
That was close enough, Hauksbee! Sometimes, they can fly on a bit, and ditch later. After some time in BHaH (when you reach the heavy drinking phase - Lol!), you will have developed a feel, for how much lead you have to pump into his plane to write it off. I then turn on to the next candidate and let him fly his last seconds or minutes, dying. Hard, eyh? Bleech! Widowmaker! Zere it iss again - ze discriminatink war propaganda of ze Limeys! Hair, on zee palm of our handz? You ssink, Beethoven played piano vizz a fur on zee inside of his handz!! Ven you look at zee amount of tea, an Englander drinkz, and furzther, zatt zey like to spoil it by pourink ze same amount of milk into it, zen it'z no wonder zey appear a little pale, huh?! -

Olham replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, the SPADs skin designs could be made of an interesting looking camouflage sheme, plus a good personal insignia, plus a great looking cowling colour or design. More wasn't allowed, I think, but it could still look great. I encountered SPADs with a red cowling, and camouflage in "dark coffee" and "milk coffee". Looked smashing to me! It mustn't always be an overall crazy art design - I like the "beauty of a warbird", too, when it looks like the SPAD XIII from Smithsonian (colour pic). PS/edit: the below SPAD was a trainer plane - don't believe, they would have allowed such a design for combat. But for the nose section alone? Why not? -
THE RED BARONS GREATEST FEAR!
Olham replied to ONETINSOLDIER's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hahaha!!! That's like in my flying dreams, when I was young. I used to sit on the floor in them, and started my imaginary Spitfire, and I really took off, and I would fly, in a sitting position like in a cockpit, legs forward. Wonderful! -
It's harder on German side, to spot planes against the landscape, as the Allied planes all have camouflage (except some French light grey or sand planes). While the German "Flying Circus" must be easy to spot.

Olham replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, Widow, definitely a great warplane; both versions! I had a go with her in Phase2. The advantages are the power/speed, that also makes her easy looping; and, if nothing else helps, her fast, stabile dive performance. A butcher's plane, if you can withstand turning. Also can she take quite some hits - maybe more rugged than my Albatros. Have fun with her, and reports, please! (New skin even?) -
Vizz all respect, Ssir, but zere you must be mistaken! Der most beautiful plane is off course my geliebter Albatros!

Hard times to come for Camel pilots
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, MK2 - what could you do? By the time, you recognise the SPADs, they also see you. And I think, you can't escape then anymore. 7 SPADs are a bit too much,I'd say. Don't believe, there's enough ammo to down them all. Best would be to try to cripple them so much, that you are the fastest plane. But I wouldn't have liked to be outnumbered that much. You must have felt quite desperate soon... And when them SPADs do their job RIGHT, and boom and zoom - no chance. Yes, CAMELJOCKEY, it's a great war plane, and I'll have a go with her and learn to tame her. -
Wll soon shoot my "kills" stealing wingmen
Olham replied to CW3SF's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have accidently shot down a Dr.1 in Phase 2. I had, after a scramble, just developed speed by downing the nose of my Albatros D V a little, and pulled up right behind a Camel. We went up so steep, that we both came to a halt almost, but I sent him a brutal burst, that killed him actually. The pain was: a Dr.1 flew right through it. I hoped, he wasn't hurt too much, but when I approached the field for landing, I saw a Dr.1 ditch down center field. And a blue line appeared: "you just shot down a Fokker Dr.1" Oooops! I landed right after all the tents, and stole into the mess through the rear door (Lol!) But: no punishment or anything upset from the Major. -

Which search? As I said: "FlaK" comes from "Flugabwehr-Kanone". And we use it for any Anti Aircraft Gun. The big 8,8 cm were simply called Acht-Acht (Eight-Eight). The 2cm-Machine Canons were called "Leichte FlaK", the four of them in a turret on a tank were called "Wirbelwind" (Whirlwind?) - but it was all "FlaK". Haven't heard of any other name. -
Respect, Red Dog I tried that, too, and I think Widowmaker regularly dies, trying it too. It is damn hard then, to recognise friend or foe. You must approach each dark spec, to find out, if he's a target. And that, without getting shot at! But I want to get there, too.
-
Thanks, Uncle must be almost hard for the Spit pilot, to fly so slow, I guess. Here, the Camel and the Dr.1 are seen together:

Hi, Julian Your desire is surely noticed now, as the developers really care for their airmen. And, yes, it would be great - I think so too. But they may not have been able to do that, because the game is based on the "engine" (or how that's called) of Combat Flight Simulator 3. But I'm sure: if it CAN be changed without too much trouble, they'll do it in some future. Apart from that: welcome to a great community. And I'm sure: when you have experienced the sim a bit more, you'll love it.

My god - I just made my first flight on a Dr.1 in BHaH (and third flight ever). What a demon plane! The three of us were attacked by four Camels. They were approaching from the right, while we still had to start our engines. Still though, I was higher up above, when they arrived. It felt almost like a starting helicopter! Their biggest advantage was me, not knowing this devil yet. Apart from that, they couldn't get behind me at all, nor could they outturn me or escape me in turns. Though the shooting with the nervous lady was terribly hard, I could down two of the Camels. The wings had finished of the other two, and one wing crashed short after. Now I'm an absolute Albatros lover (and I'm an abiding lover), but I must have one carreer with that Triplane, to see, how far I could get with such a witch. Frightening! If you haven't tried her yet - do it. Incredible!
-
That's what I meant in my thread "how hard must a pilot become..." I saw my good wingman No. 1 (who had kept the pack off my tail, while I was downing two SPAD XIII), how he suddenly was the only other German around; lower, and 5 SPADs jumping on him. I couldn't but dive down there in a rage and pepper them. Useless though - they had killed him, before I got there; and I only escaped by flying BELOW treetop level. Shot up, I crashlanded - but on the right side.
-
Yez, I like Nupez! Zey are so easy to be shredded to stripes of canvaz, rainink from ze skies! Mmuahahaaa!! Don't turn vizz zem - shredder zem!!! Mmmuahahahahaaaa!!!!

How do you mean? Are you the Albatros or the S.E.5a pilot? And if you're the Albatros - did you make this skin yourself (looks very good and believeable!)

Is Jagdstaffel 5 represented?
Olham replied to J5_Lehmann's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
When you choose the Jasta, you can check it's status. There's written, which planes they will have through their wartime, and when you click through the dates, you can also check, which aces were in there, were they had their airfields (some changed a lot, others hardly ever) and what their status was. That is very useful for finding out the right areas, and against which enemies you'll stand. And which date to enter, off course. -

The Morane Saulnier L Parasol .....
Olham replied to Womenfly2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
WomenFly2 - interesting stuff, like always. And, although I'd like a D VIII as a new plane in BHaH, I think, they should make a Morane Parasol first. Cause then, the Eindecker would find a suitable opponent. Camel, I can't help you much there, but what I would do, is "google" for: WW1 aircraft replica, Georgia, North- and South Carolina, and Florida. You could also contact WomenFly2 via PM - she is involved in such things, being a mechanic herself, and she knows people who do that. Also, she might give you the adress of Achim, a man who builds replicas, too. But that's only for looking into his site - he works in Germany.
