F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 in Vietnam
MigBuster replied to streakeagle's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well for stats with weapons listed from Iranian F-4 Phantom Units in Combat (1980-1988) F-4E 46 x AIM-9P-1 9 x Cannon 4 x AIM-7-E F-4D 1 x AIM-7E-2 Note kills are mostly MiG-21/MiG-23/Su-20, no MiG-17/19 kills are listed -
Best at what? - you need to change it to "favourite jet", or at least remove the 5th Gen fighters (F-35 and F-22)
-
Nice to see - a big improvement in SF2 with advanced shaders is being able to see flashes of light now from explosions and missile trails - especially in the dark!
-
Prefer SF2I myself, but saying that Ive been using the others mostly recently. Advantages out of the box for me are the campaigns with tank battles and an effort by TK to put some historical accuracy into them. A small amount of terrain to cover, the IDF camo scheme looks ace, and the stock terrain actually looks good.

Never seen this - so I would be checking the startup procedure again in case any switches are in the wrong position, eg is air source on norm, engine feed set to norm, is fuel transfer set to norm....etc

F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 in Vietnam
MigBuster replied to streakeagle's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well for info IDF F-15 kills were mostly WVR (Even the AIM-7 kills) 1979-1985 15.5 x AIM-7, 25.5 x Python 3, 3 x AIM-9, 4 x Cannon Thats from "Israeli F-15 units in combat" USAF in 91 could go BVR if both the IFF and AWACs declared an unfriendly - but even so a USAF F-15C had to merge and get into a traditional turning fight with a MiG-29A when the IFF ID'd it as friendly! Thats from "F-15C Eagle units in combat" Anyway thats for another thread -
Wow - excellent

Sounds like you have the wrong skins - skins only work on the model they were created for. Which game - and which A-10 are you using? - if its stock be aware that there is a 3rd party A-10 so the skins you have might be for that. Compare the bmps by opening them up to the skin that actually works. The bmp files must also have the correct names to work. If the templates are for another model and they are very different then they just wont look to good even if you rename them.

F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 in Vietnam
MigBuster replied to streakeagle's topic in Military and General Aviation
Great so you agree with us Well in SEA it used its superior energy, better trained pilots, and agility (which is now only 'slightly' better than the F-4s ) to get into a good position on its foe - then used the AIM-9 or Gun. Agilty does kinda help you know - this is not only the ability to turn at lower or corner speeds - but the ability to turn at any speed and get the nose on the target which is where you need it - otherwise you may as well be stating they would be better off in B-58's. Right - you will see in the old thread I chose the F-8 because it could use both Energy and agility. This is an interesting point - not really in line at what I was getting at but since you have brought it up - how much of an energy advantage did the F-4B/C/D have in reality over the F-8x? Case in point MiG-17F Vs F-4J with 2 Top Gun Grads (Cunningham Driscoll) - you know the one May 1972 - described in US Navy F-4 Phantom II Mig Killers 1972 - 1973 (p42-p43). Each time the F-4J zoom climbs the MiG-17F just stays with it, and its ony a miracle the MiG misses with its guns during this engagement. Cunningham has to almost commit suicide in the end by slamming on the brakes and hanging there in mid air to get the MiG in front of him - of course he cant do JS even after the MiG pilot makes a mistake - because no gun. This is not to be used as an example of how the F-4 scrapped by whatever means (even though it was taken apart in the first 2 zoom climbs and should have lost) What I am saying is did the F-4B/C/D have a big enough advantage to avoid a situation like this with the F-8x? -
What version is the game currently? What are you patching it up to? where have you installed the game? (get it out of program files) Is it not letting you browse to where the install is?

About the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter for SF2?
MigBuster replied to AGOSTINO's topic in General Discussion
1.look in this section in the f-35A data ini - and check which sounds it uses: [sound] EngineSoundName=JetEngine AfterburnerSoundName=JetBurner DamagedEngineSoundName= FlapsSoundName=Flaps AirbrakesSoundName=Airbrakes GearsSoundName=Gear 2the RWR.list goes in the jets folder - just copy one over from another jet. For the name it needs to be for each jet - look in each jets avionics file for this section: [RWR] ....... LockSound=RWRLockSound.wav FlashActivityOnLaunch=TRUE ThreatLibraryFile=F-16A_Netz_RWR.lst <------this is the name your file needs to be. This is descibed more in the converting planes to SF2 thread in the SF2 KB -
I used to run it on XP - cant remember what version but it went ok until the PC couldnt handle the newer games - but no BSs - Could be graphics card or drivers - well could be anything tbh but I would start there - unless there is a Fraps forum with answers.

F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 in Vietnam
MigBuster replied to streakeagle's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes I have that Osprey F-8 book - so probably no need to pull out all of those things really - sorry to have wasted your time. Pretty sure no one has said it would be a better choice for the fleet so Im not sure where you got that from. No one had tried to compare the F-8 to the MiG-17 in terms of turning ability - it was simply that everything you see suggests that the F-8 was more agile (in both horizontal and vertical turns) than the F-4 - so logically this makes it easier for the F-8 to get into a favourable position over any foe to launch AIM-9s or use its gun. If C5 has the documentation then I'm sure he will prove that to you. btw the period in question was the F-8s Rolling Thunder MiG killing period over SEA ( F-4B/C/D) - so forget BVR -
If there is a fix for FF5 then best to look at their forums for it if you dont get an answer here.

Ed_1 suggested it on here: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/42531-window-7-with-falcon-4-af-and-sturmovik-1946/ I never installed in program files - mainly because of issues with the SF1 series and some other old programs I had that didnt work properly in there - I know one of the patches for Falcon made changes for Vista but havnt tried it in Program files - so if it works for you then it might be okay. It might be for you - but didnt for me - this might be another NVIDIA thing - I had to create that file (along with others) for my last card to get the menus working properly - actually I think its the AA workaround.
-
Nah - just need to have AA on myself
-
The tilde (~) is actually on my hash(#) key This depends on your keyboard layout for your country - and whether said person has it set up properly in the Windows Control panel
-
The names of the Decals need to be 100% correct other wise they wont show. Why are you changing the names in this case?
-
Trust me you need the patch - multicore CPU support was only added in later patches - along with many other things.
-
So you have Wings Over Israel - have you patched it to Oct 2008? Is this happening to add on jets or the stock jets that came with the game? Dont install it in Program files - WOI is not supported on Win 7. You may have to set the game to run as admin. If you have done that then I'm sure ive heard of this problem before so there might be an old thread on it.
-
Yes I recommend playing the game as stock for a while - a lot to learn btw in early jets you will be dive bombing or guessing a lot - this might be of help: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html also the A-A one http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_061a.html
-
So the game recognises you are using the throttle on that stick okay? - and you are not trying to go to afterburner in a jet that doesnt have one? Is there any seperate calibration software for the joystick - or can you calibrate it in the control panel?
-
Falcon4 AF does not work on Win 7 without a few changes - which are already in other threads (although maybe this could be a sticky): 1. Dont install it in program files or program files(x32) 2. In setup->Graphics in game - set it to use 3D HAL (NOT the T&L mode - that causes problems) 3. For the Gui issue you may need to creat a new text file called BFOps.cfg then stick in this line set g_bForceSoftwareGUI 1 put it in the Falcon4 folder (top level with the main exe) MAKE SURE the file is BFOps.cfg and not BFOps.cfg.txt - that wont work that may just leave you with a corrupted Knee map - if so it may be an NVIDIA issue - I bought a new ATi card which fixed that.
