Does anyone happen to have this old archive of EAW post handy? www.combatsim.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?&category=7 I tried to contact the owner, but he won't reply to any of my e-mails. I wanted a local copy of the old board. I was half way through reading all the posts of the EAW 1-6 archives, He has since removed these precous posts of EAW history and also closed down his newer forums (they are read only now). The important stuff lyes in the older archive that the above link use to goto. Thanks in advance if you have a saved copy of all those posts!

You don't need to give up. But if you want to that's okay too. It could take about 30to45 mins to test various settings after reading the help docs. Troubleshoot is right off the main page, wrapper info is in that page. The GOG version is easier to setup, it has a GOG Direct Draw wrapper and a portable version of nGlide. The GOG eaw.exe is a super update compared to the stock eaw.exe BTW. they updated the direct x/dd stuff inside it. More info at my site...... It just seems your all over the place instead of sticking to instructions that work.

Hmm, you didn't read the instructions on my site. You'll need to link the dll with the D3D windower program. Thats is the main part of the wrapper that drives the DD. Your really missing out not reading and following the steps in my help documents! The 7217 issue is non existent when EAW is setup correctly with a DD wrapper program, that's an old error that the wrappers correct on all of them, with any version of the game. There is one issue which may ruin it with that error, if you run eaw.exe without a wrapper sometimes windows (Im not sure if its also winxp) will write a registry entry, then when the wrapper is loaded it will produce that 7217 error incorrectly, because of a conflict. (And nobody uses software mode, its either DirectDraw/Direct 3D or DirectDraw/Glide.) Start with the first Help Document at my site with a cup of coffee or anything with caffeine and read. It won't take long. You can probably follow the instructions perfectly since you been dabbling with the game so far. In the past the Intel integrated graphics finds freedom in a dd wrapper and a glide wrapper, It works better than windows alone in most peoples cases. Yes your on WinXP but that's not a deal breaker......you just have to read and follow, then I can help properly. The questions you ask and the conclusion you came too show me that you need more education on the topic. Please read my site. I'll still answer your questions, but without doing the work from the help docs, you just won't get it. Tons of work has been put into the docs btw.....they could use more work...but anyhow get reading! :)

All this should be all done real quick, the swapping of the wrapper programs and such. Like swap, run and check if its working. OpenGlide should work fine. a DirectDraw wrapper should help to for the menus. Just forget about the movie, I did think if you configured for the movie, the flight screen would mess up, or run real slow. If I'm right 0 is for Glide mode in the EAW.INI file. Hopefully you read some of my help documents in order and learned about the placement of the game folder and no compatibility settings need to be set with the shortcut to the game. Your on WinXP, little testing on my behalf for that OS, mostly the help was derived from others and little testing. So with the wrappers set as I recommended in my help documents, does your game work menus and flight screen? (I was confused on if its working or not).

https://eaw.neocities.org/eaw-ini.html Thats to my EAW.INI Help doc. But it sounds like your nGlide isn't working correctly or at all. So I'm thinking the game defaults to software mode. Or maybe you have a readonly ini file? Get rid of nGlide if you want and try openGlide: OpenGLide_009rc7.zip https://sourceforge.net/projects/openglide/files/OpenGLide - Binaries/Release 0.09 Alpha/ or download the non portable version, the nGlide with an installer, and read the readme/website as to how to install it. Read my site over, start with the first help document then goto the next etc...If you need help while im away. OH, I highly doubt you'll get the movies to work. Try reading my install help doc and download the empty or small size movies CDF file......

This is what I have: https://eaw.neocities.org/troubleshoot.html#wrap You do need a DD wrapper however for the screens. The in-flight screen you will need nglide or perhaps a Direct3D wrapper. nGlide should be fine for the flight screens to cure in game problems. You set your resolution in the EAW.INI file (try 1024x768) also you have to set Glide mode in the EAW.INI or in the menu config screen in game. Usually for a wrapper program you dump the files into the games EAW folder.....you gotta read up on some of this. https://eaw.neocities.org/ EDIT: I just look, the ddwrapper you got (http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html) has 2 or 3 files...it said to add them to the game folder. I remember vaguely using that one program. It solved some problems I had on Win7. Keep reading and testing, ask whatever you want.

The issue maybe with the Integrated Intel Graphics. Sounds like you need a Wrapper program to try to get it working. Not sure which one, been to long since I worked on this. https://eaw.neocities.org/troubleshoot.html#wrap That link is some partial help. EDIT: after a few hours i was able to remember some things. Since you have Intel, then maybe your going to need nGlide wrapper for EAW. Also a directdraw wrapper for the main (menu) screens. Please read my site for help, if you have more questions, just post them here.

You too VBH. Happy New Year..... Send my best too the Launchpad.
-
I've tried it before, regarding the host only playing function. But maybe you can post substantially more about it, instead of forcing people to go to simhq when they may not want to follow the link, just yet. Also perhaps rename the thread to something more direct and related. Those are suggestions.
-
Thats old news, years old. Anyhow why do you post irrelevant stuff all the time? Nothing substantial?

Well I posted a "new" update on the FXEXE Help Page. It is (hopefully) what I determined to be a newer build of VBH FXEXE eaw.exe that works properly with the PiltoMapv3.0 and has other changes that I don't recall, (its been awhile since he sent them to me). It was like a month later that this update is placed from the previously posted update. I did document all features and changes provided on the Help Document, some place as an overall detail. Anyway, the point is, Download BASIC-update-2.zip and over-right the existing files. I tested them out and everything seems to be working. Thanks to VBH!
-
What version or type of EAW game are you using?
-
Okay heard from VBH. Due to some issues, It looks like thats the download thats available, I'll be posting a new PilotMap v3.0 shortly for it. However. I think VBH currently and already has the new pilotmap linked from his site, but I'm not sure at the moment......

Unfortunately, for the past several months the EAWPRO DL was corrupted. Its my fault for not testing it before upload. I fixed it now. https://eaw.neocities.org/fxexe-patches.html From a 7-15-2019 version (VBH may have a more recent version, I'm waiting to hear from him)
-
I Just wanted to post this Help document written primarily by the author (VBH) of EAWPRO here at his Club, I'll post a link to my edited Help Document: https://eaw.neocities.org/fxexe-patches.html It links to the Download as well as describes a number of changes and improvements to the game. Some I had a hard time writing and editing about. I tried to use VBH's words and sentences as much as I could, and tried to elaborate on what he was telling me (and eventually us). If anyone has additional information or changes I should do with the Help Doc, please post here so I can read them. Thanks. ;) (If VBH feels inclined to read the EAWPRO Help Doc again, perhaps you can submit changes, if needed? :) Alright Thanks all!

All EAW versions have a wide FOV. It just depends on the resolution your using. The widen resolution, shows more this side of the cockpit frame, seeing more sky than you would at non-wide resolutions. 128 has it wide at 1024x768, however 12 has it at 800x600, which is unfortunate. Other higher res at wide too. EAWPRO (based on 12) has it at 1024x768 with zoom in and out....or pilot seat forward and back I guess. 1024x768 is an advised/playable resolution typically. I use that res most of all. But one can read the help information on my site regarding FOV and POV and RES, and experiment with their own EAW game.

Its the Stock ETO from the CD...already confirmed it.
-
Without trying, it is the registered CD ETO files.
-
.....and what is the point of that post follow up?
-
So since no one with the GoG version replied and I have since found out. The answer is yes, they gave the MPS v1.2 the super update to the eaw.exe itself. (the same as they did too the unofficial 128). Two issues though: Since this is based on Microprose EAWv1.2, the Field of View for 1024x768 is narrow, and the selection screen mouse clicking is extremely fast and annoying to get the parameter selection you want. The FOV is best at I think for v1.2 was/is 800x600. Now if Gog / Retroism can correct these two functions of the eaw.exe then the game would be more than super. I would love to have wide view at 1024x768 like 128 does (and EAWPRO does this too).
-
Did GoG give the eaw.exe the super touch that they gave 128? Such as, updated DX code and enhanced frames per second, with Horizon Fog in D3D mode, etc.....?
-
What gamedata theater is in that new barebones. Is it a standalone ETO?
-
I didn't see a trail version at that link you provided. Unless a missed it. Can you link to the trial or alternate barebones download posting?
