Didn't really try any other programs. And I did have the internet disconnected, and my AV program shut down and no TIR - same issue. Hmm...wonder if that W7 "update" somehow caused a conflict. OK - going to: - Try another program that I know worked - Disable Windows Defender and see what happens ...stay tuned and thanks for your help.

Now I need help. So…this morning, just like every morning, I fire up OFF/HiTR, go to Quick Combat and set up a 6 vs 6 w/ my QC pilot. Now, instead of getting the “flames” splash screen and then the “grey/black” flash screen, the cursor sits there on a black screen going round and round forever. So, I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to Task Manager and I notice about two dozen Rundll processes running and not stopping. I have made NO changes to OFF between yesterday and this morning and the only change to my system was a Windows update. I am running W7 Home edition 64 bit. Anyone have an insight/solution here.

Well, first of all I would recommend updating your drivers as your 8.7s are very old and I wonder how well they work w/ DX11. I am not stating that this is neccesarilly the cause as a game failing to initialize usually means something more immediate like a corrupted executable or bad dlls. But it is something to look at IMO.

Just very odd that your failure occurs at the CFS3 step. Go ahead and try compatibility mode and do post the DXDIAG results.

A couple of observations: 1. The movie will be out on DVD in the states on June 1st. 2. Those planes behave more like X-Wing/Tie fighters than WWI a/c - using the Flyboys physics model no doubt 3. Over at the Aerodrome the film was pretty much panned by everyone as claiming to be historically accurate and being absurdly not - just one howler as an example; MvR shoots down Roy Brown TWICE and the second time he is downed himself and shares a shellhole w/ Roy as they chat about this and that. Oh, OK - one more; The Kaiser visits and MvR, weary of war, pitches a peace plan to the Kaiser. ...you can't make this stuff up.

What Tranqillo meant was to right click on the shortcut - go to Properties and select Compatibilty mode - then check off XP Service pack 3. I don't think it will matter really to the issue you are having. So: 1. Have you tried installing any other sim/game and do they work? I ask this as the issue may be vid card related. 2. Please do try the 10.4 drivers - I use them and they work well. 3. Please get that print out of the DXDIAG results and copy over the Main section and graphics sections into a message here. If there is something blatantly wrong this may tell us what it is.

I meant to compliment you on your spin recovery RAF Lou - that was outstanding and more than I could hope to accomplish. Man that Camel was a vicious kite - but deadly in the right hands.

Hmmm...wish I could help you here. This is odd. Just spitballing here but...: - Do you have other sims installed (FSX?) and they run fine? - What version of Direct X do you have? - Go to Start and type in DXDIAG in the text box. Allow it to FULLY load. Go to print report or whatever it states and give us the main and video sections.

I use W7 w/ no issues. So let's see what we can do here. First of all your post was a bit convoluted: - It states "CFS2" - I assume that was a typo? - It states "putting the patch in" - which patch - there are many? Installing OFF is very specific and it depends on whether you have CFS3 on CD (two discs) or on DVD (single patched disk). Here the instructions for both are listed below. So: - Uninstall - Search your system for any CS3 related files and delete - Follow the directions for the appropriate install - firing up the sim and rebooting at each step If you have older CFS3 CDs, assume that they are version 3.0: - Install CFS3, and patch it to 3.1 (obtain patch here: http://www.microsoft.../downloads.aspx). Then run the game briefly. Note: Many newer CFS3 CDs (e.g., bargain version recently offered by Best Buy) are already 3.1. If you own one of these, you DO NOT have to install CFS3 first, but need to have the CDs ready when you install BHAH. - Install BHaH from DVD. Insert CFS3 CDs when asked (if using CFS3 v3.1) - Download and install BHaH SuperPatch v1.32, followed by MiniPatch v1.32g (found here: http://www.overfland...wnloadsBH&H.htm) - Download and install HiTR - Download and install HiTR MiniPatch v1.47 (available here: http://www.overfland...m/Downloads.htm) If you have the CFS3 DVD: - Install CFS3. I continue to be amazed at the results OBD has achieved with what was released as pretty much a flawed engine that was barely patched to begin with. Did anyone actually fly the original CFS3? I did for about two days – and soon realized that it was a sad joke. “As real as it gets”? Sure, sure. When the actions of a pilot effect the outcome of a world war? So, the good news was that the sim code was very open to adding a/c and objects – the CFS series only real claim to fame. But the bad news was that the code sucked – much like its predecessors CFS1 & 2. Now, the great news is that OBD has transformed this base into something really special that keeps pushing the boundaries. I d/l’d OFF Phase 2 and did not really like it as the manager was too kludgy for me to enjoy. Phase 3 fixed that and really improved the experience to the point that there is little comparison between the two. I am pretty sure that Phase 4 will prove to be another quantum leap and I cannot wait to see what OBD comes up with.

...a tip for running smoothly at high rez - don't stream it - d/l it: - click on the link - select the Rez via the little menu item off to the right - hit the pause button - allow time for the light red bar to fill from left to right (that's the file d/l'ing to a temp file on your HD) - play w/ NO hiccups

Let the full thing d/l first by setting the rez and then hitting the pause button until the red bar fills - then play it. Problem solved. Nice, I like the higher rez Hellshade.

Oh, I enjoy filling it in too - but the suggestion is to have it available as an option after every mission and let the player decide when to use it: - French flyers = only if you observe a the crash - German flyers = only if you observe the crash - American flyers = only if you observe an enemy plane lose altitude - English flyers = whenever you see an enemy plane

Tell me more please. Is this legacy code from CFS3? If you bail do you survive 100% of the time - and then have to use the honor system to deterine your fate?
