  1. Yes, it does. I have a new rig w/ an ATI 5670 card and DX11 and have no issues running OFF. BUT, the issue for this fellow is that he has a GeForce 6800 and that is a DX9 card. So - install DX9 - don't worry it will exist beside DX11. And that should get the sim to load. However, that card is woefully underpowered for this sim. Better off finding a more recent replacement.
  2. Congrats old boy!
  3. Yep, that's the path for W7 alright.
  4. Man, nothing like an ace swooping in to save your bacon. Thanks for the second set of great shots today.
  5. Yes, just switch from 2D mode (passable when modded) to 3D mode (Oh My ).
  6. Using W7 and - good news - NO issues. Probably best to set the OFF / CFS3 exe's to run in Admin mode - and use XP compatibility - but I found neither made much difference. *** So...if you are getting W7 on a new rig - go for it. ***In fact, I've had less problems w/ OFF on W7 than I did w/ Silent Hunter III (cannot even play it if I wanted to due to protection scheme incompatibility), SHIV and Il-2.
  7. Is your latest in the D/L section?
  8. Sounds like a great program to have Her Prop-Wasche
  9. I have to agree as I have noticed myself that (anecdotally) slight damage does degrade manueverabilty - perhaps a tad more than it should? I guess the moral of the story is; "don't get hit!"
  10. Hello tdacon - new guy buys the beer, BTW. Quick Scenarios 1 - 3 are tough as the enemy starts behind you in an excellent attack position whereas your side needs to maneuver. So, they immediately start blasting away and often it is the player that catches it. Don't know why they were designed that way. Perhaps to discipline the player into always checking the pilot never dies box?
  11. Nice stuff. Both you and UK_Widowmaker do great work.
  12. Tested last night and NO joy. Also installed DX9 - NO difference. Cutting down those settings gave me maybe 4 more FPS - and I did notice shimmering and a (much)less defined lozenge pattern on the stock DVII skin. So, trading what are otherwise excellent graphics (except for the lack of clouds) for a marginal FPS increase and a decrease in GFX quality - just not worth it. Such is life. Thanks for all the help and advice all. I'm going flying.
  13. As an avid fan of the Combat Mission series (which ported the boardgame Advanced Squad Leader to the PC) I am a bit excited to see that the company plans an update - tentativly titled Combat Mission: Normandy. It is based on a fully revised engine that has already spawned 3 modern warefare games (I have no interest in that) and it should be out this year. Here is a link to some early screenies; http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=91606 Cheers to another CMBO success.
  14. Will post the results here. BTW, you were indeed correct about Olham's card being more powerful than mine. :suicide2: I'll live.
  15. Oh my - perhaps a bit outlandish for you reserved chaps?
  16. Thanks all - will check out the lower CCC settings that effect clouds as I have no issues anywhere else - 40+ FPS. BTW, did that - and turned off shadows - NO effect on the clouds issue. Ground density from Med to Low saved me approx. 2 FPS - not a material difference for me to lose that eye candy.
  17. Finally got the new rig set up to where I can fly again and - funny thing - I notice that I rarely use the Center button (mapped to Virtual Cockpit) anymore, I just "look around". I have great SA and rarely find myself "out of place". Targeting is not an issue as TIR is so smooth I have no issues lining up a shot. Just felt so good about my additional immersion level that I thought I would share it with the group.
  18. More testing last night. Long story short ***, my issues is CLOUDS () – storm clouds to be more specific. Yep, going to overrides and disabling clouds shot the Quick Scenario FPS up to 40 and smooth. This held true for rain and fog conditions as well. So…I have two choices here: 1. Disable clouds and do without the eye candy, effects – BUT - experience a smooth 40 FPS in all weather conditions 2. Keep clouds unchecked and experience a choppy 22-24 FPS in storm cloud conditions (that would make Nov/Dec/Jan flying not at all enjoyable). Guess what I’m going with? Choice #1 Hey, it ain’t perfect but at least it is very playable and the sim looks great - except for the lack of clouds of course. Thanks all for helping me!! ***Here are the details in case anyone is interested: - Dropped the CCC sliders to best performance levels = gained only about 2 FPS and the sim looked like crap – so not worth it - Disabled shadows – no change in FPS - After I discovered what the issue was (clouds) went to 554555 and only lost about 6 FPS – but was not smooth so best to leave the sliders at 553344
  19. Yes, figured that out, thanks. Yep, that is where I started.
  20. Thanks Von Paulus. I know there is a setting out there that will balance the eye candy w/ smooth, high FPS on stormy days. I MUST FIND IT!!!! So...Oh boy - more testing for me. At some point I will acually get to fly.
  21. Correct, one card - no crossfire. And, hmmm... thought the card was a bit better than entry level and better than the 4870. OK - did some further testing - and found that the issue is specifically present when flying into the cloud bank in the Quick Scenario *** mission that I use for testing. Clear weather = 42 FPS Stormy weather = 22 - 24 FPS W/ overrides - Clear weather = 40 FPS but a bit smoother W/ overrides - Stormy weather = 22 FPS but a bit smoother Oh, and here are the variables that had (little or) NO effect: - Setting .EXE files to XP Compatibiity - Using AMD Fusion software - Dropping the cloud slider to 1 gave me 2/3 extra FPS in the stormy test mission - just not worth it So...I am quite happy with the FPS on sunny days and not at all happy on stormy days (kidna like real life, ya know ). Now, I will test lowering the sliders as Von Paulus suggested - and disabling shadows. And I will also test different CCC settings as suggested by Polovski. But...since the issue is weather related - two specific questions: 1. Will loading DX9 do anything ? 2. Will killing all the weather overrides actually have any effect in this situation? Thanks for all the advice fellows. +++++++++++++++++++++++ *** Why the heck do ALL of these Quick Scenarios feature cloudy/rainy/foggy weather? One would think they were all created from the same template or something.
