[Fictional] Republic F-105D Thunderchief - West Germany
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
View File [Fictional] Republic F-105D Thunderchief - West Germany Republic F-105D-5RE Thunderchief for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D to create a fictional West German Thunderchief in the 1962-1967 timeline. A USAF skin is also included for joint operations! BACKSTORY When Kennedy and Khrushchev first met at the Vienna Summit in June 1961 there was hope of better relations between the USA and the Soviet Union but in the weeks that followed these hopes faded when the Soviet Union proposed a treaty between Moscow and East Berlin leading to Kennedy countering with a clear statement that any treaty interfering with U.S. access rights in West Berlin would be regarded as an act of war. Upon his return to the USA, Kennedy's advisors told him that Khrushchev was still planning to sign a treaty with East Berlin and advocated an immediate military build-up in Europe including the deployment of the new Republic F-105D's of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing and the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing with both wings having a primary tactical nuclear strike role. The erection of the Berlin Wall in August 1961 caused Kennedy more anxiety and among a raft of actions he authorised the immediate transfer of 36 F-105D's to the German Air Force with most aircraft coming from the 335th Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Eglin Air Force Base. Entering service in October 1961 with Jagdbombergeschwader 31 at Nörvenich the F-105D's replaced the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak and were operated until late 1967 when the Wing began to receive the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-105D-5RE folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-105D-5RE folder into your Decals folder. That's it! The F-105D-5RE designation is used to prevent conflict with any other F-105D's you may have in your install. CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 1 - 24/11/2022 Submitter Spinners Submitted 11/24/2022 Category What If Hangar-

File Name: F-105B Thunderchief (Stand in) File Submitter: dtmdragon File Submitted: 22 September 2016 File Category: F-105 Republic F-105B Thunderchief (Stand in) Uses the TW F-105D model as a stand in with the following mods: - Removed nose pitot tube and added one to the left outer wing via fakepilot method. - Data.ini edits (weight, thrust, service year etc). - Ranging radar only. - Re-painted and re-panel lined the nose to re-shape it into that of the F-105B. - Moved cannon port. - Canopy can open. - Removed bombay fuel tank. - Cockpit is from the F-84F as the F-105B did not have the 'tape' style instruments or a radar scope like the F-105D - Added 'fighter sweep' mission as if a shooting war had developed during the Cuban Missile Crisis some of the 4th TFW F-105B Squadrons were tasked with an Air Superiority role. - One generic USAF silver skin using stock decals and another for the 335th TFS, 4th TFW that forward deployed to Macoy AFB during the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. To Install: - Un-pack and drop into your mods folder. Credits: - TW for the F-105D. - Sundowner for the template. - Zurawski & Gunrunner for the cockpit. Click here to download this file -

For any Ed Rasimus fans (When Thunder Rolled) here is a decent USAF published and released documentary featuring him and the F-105 fighter squadron he flew with during his first tour in South East Asia. From 1966-67 vintage, and a good sobering reminder of the sacrifices made during that era as a few the pilots featured in the interviews would later pay the ultimate sacrifice during that conflict.

F-105D PSD Layered Templates for SF2
Centurion-1 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: F-105D PSD Layered Templates for SF2 File Submitter: Centurion-1 File Submitted: 02 June 2013 File Category: Skin Templates These are layered Photoshop templates for the stock Thirdwire F-105D sized 1024x1024. These are made partially by hand and partially by superimposing modified stock USAF silver textures, so the overall detail is 99% of the default skins + a little extra in the form of new paint chips and weathering. Credits: Me Ludo M.54 for initial work (rivets and panel lines) To be noted i use blending effects to achieve uniform colors a lot so if some layer does not change color if you try a hue/saturation change, that's why. So go instead to Blending options and color overlay. I use this to achieve uniform coloring on all textures. Have fun! Click here to download this file -

F-105D Hill AFB updated skins
Centurion-1 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: F-105D Hill AFB updated skins File Submitter: Centurion-1 File Submitted: 31 May 2013 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Skins DELETE THE OLD HILL AFB SKINS FOR THE UPDATED ONES TO SHOW UP Updated Hill AFB skins for the SF2 F-105D This is an update for Daddyairplanes´ Hill Afb Skins (http://combatace.com/files/file/13741-f-105d-hill-afb-skins/) that I did, and are uploaded with DAs permission. The main changes from the previous version are added details and weathering as well as restoring missing rivet and panel lines. So 90% of the credit goes to Daddyairplanes, I only did a visual tuneup. Happy flying, Centurion aka Mats Liljeroos 31. May 2013 ORIGINAL README: Semi Historical Hill AFB F-105D Skins The 466th TFS, USAF Reserve, was lhe last operator of the F-105 Thunderchief. They flew their last mission before converting to the F-16A in 1983. Due to how long they flew the 'Thud' and their proximity to Ogden Air Logistics Center, where many aircraft go to be repainted, they flew 3 Thuds in colors other than the traditional SEA camo. Those schemes (SEA Wraparound, European 1, and a one off Desert scheme based on the pattern of the first two) are represented here. Also provided are black tailcode for the 466th ('HI') and 50 black serial numbers. Sorry only 50 as the Thud was getting rarer by that time. The first 10 serials are historical with the first 3 being the ones used by the aircraft so painted. the other 40 numbers are redone TW serials spanning FY59-62. This is not a completely accurate rendition, the pattern is different than T.O. 1-1-4 states for SEA Wraparound and Euro 1. What I did was to wraparound the stock skin, then swap the colors (as was done IRL). I also did not do the nose art's for the aircraft due to other commmitments, and lack of time. Much credit goes to : ludo.54m for his templates, which allowed me more freedom to color while keeping the panel lines and rivets Soulfreak, both for the idea and material support with references TK for the stock bird and decals the greater CA community for support and education over the years Included in the mod are Desert, Euro 1 and SEA Wraparound skins my Expanded Squadronlist.ini, which puts 466th TFS as selectable in menu the Photoshop templates I used to create this mod. Installation unzip the files, copy and paste to the appropriate folders. Allow merging of Aircraft and Decal folders. Enjoy Thank you for downloading this mod! daddyairplanes aka Kevin Unruh 16 Jan 2013 Click here to download this file- 1 reply

[Fictional] F-105D 'Shalakh' (Osprey) for SF2
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
View File [Fictional] F-105D 'Shalakh' (Osprey) for SF2 F-105D for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D Thunderchief to give a fictional F-105D 'Shalakh' (Osprey) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for; 107 Squadron - 'The Knights of the Orange Tail' 119 Squadron - 'The Bat' 253 Squadron - 'The Negev' This should work in any SF2 game featuring the stock Third Wire F-105D but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I. BACKSTORY During the early 1960's Defence Secretary Robert S. McNamara and his team of whiz-kids were on a mission to streamline the US defence budget with 'commonality' being their main area of focus. With the F-4 Phantom now being procured for the USAF as well as for the USN and USMC and with the TFX (F-111) project promising further cost savings it appeared that the two aircraft had the home tactical fighter market covered. So it was no surprise when in October 1963 Republic Aviation were formally ordered to cease further development of the F-105 Thunderchief and to stop production after the current batch of F-105D's and F-105F's. In early 1964 the Heyl Ha'Avir (Israeli Air Force) were looking for a replacement for the Vautour tactical bomber and openly expressed a preference for the UK's Blackburn Buccaneer. With the end of the Thunderchief production line looming, and with no follow-on project in the immediate pipeline, Republic Aviation proposed a modified version of the Thunderchief F-105D to the Heyl Ha'Avir at a very attractive price and this was eagerly accepted. With the last USAF F-105D's and F-105F's going through the door production continued with the main production batch of 100 F-105D-35RE aircraft (essentially similar to the F-105D-31-RE but with some Heyl Ha'Avir specified equipment) and powered by the Pratt & Whitney J75-P20W engine rated at 26,500lbs of thrust with reheat. Deliveries of the first F-105D-35-RE aircraft to Israel began in early 1967 and the type soon gained the local name of 'Shalakh' (Osprey). As a happy consequence, the USAF ordered more F-105D's and F-105F's as attrition replacements for Vietnam and this kept the Thunderchief production line open until December 1968. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-105Didf folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-105Didf folder into your Decals folder. That's it!
