  2. Malta 1942, a campaign for WoA

    The first half of 1941 had been a hard time for the Allied defenders of Malta, when the Luftwaffe could devote several of its best units to pound the island, sink any ship within nearby waters, and decimate the small fighter force of outperformed Hurricanes. As Germany turned its attention Eastwards with Operation Barbarossa, the RAF could recover, then take a more offensive stance, putting threatening pressure on the Axis convoys to Libya, and even striking targets in Sicily.

    Nonetheless, by the end of the year, as the operations East were getting stuck in the Russian Winter, it was decided to move again large numbers of Luftwaffe units to the Mediterranean Front, in order to eliminate the RAF striking force, and to bend the Maltese morale under the weight of bombs.

    As the valiant defenders of Malta were to face this renewed enemy effort, the Axis leaders began to meet and plot an invasion of the island by air and sea, intended to remove once and for all this thorn from their flank. By the end of April 1942, this Sword of Damocles over Malta would have a name: Operation Herkules..

    Malta 1942 : Malta now with 100% more Spitfires !!

    This is my third campaign for Wings over Africa, the free add-on by The Dev A-Team that enables you to re-enact the air war over the most legendary battlefields of the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. In this mod, Baltika had already provided campaigns over Malta covering the epic years 1940 and 1941. This 11-months-long campaign, running from December 1941 to November 1942, completes a trilogy, encompassing some of the most dramatic moments of the siege, when Malta was the closest to be dominated in the air before Spitfires were finally delivered, the closest to be strangled with Allied supply convoys repeatedly decimated or driven away, and finally the closest to be doomed as the Axis leaders planned very seriously for Summer 1942 the naval and aerial invasion of the island, codenamed Operation Herkules.

    Four additional downloads will be required to play this campaign (the links are included in the ReadMe file, registration at Capun Skunkworks needed). The modified files provided here allow several flyable units to display their original markings, and activate some Sardinian and Tripolitanian bases and targets on the Tunisia map as soon as the beginning of the campaign. A French translation of the campaign texts is also included.

    Flyable planes (including scheduled upgrades during this long campaign):

    British RAF/FAA :

    Hawker Hurricane Mk.I & Mk.IIb

    Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb

    Bristol Beaufighter Mk.I & VI

    Bristol Beaufort Mk.I

    Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV

    Martin Maryland Mk.I & Baltimore Mk.I (reco)

    Fairey Albacore Mk.I

    German Luftwaffe :

    Messerschmitt BF-109 F-4 & G-2

    Messerschmitt BF-110 C-4

    Junkers Ju-88 C-4 night fighter

    Junkers Ju-88 A-4 (bombers & reco)

    Junkers Ju-87 D

    Italian Regia Aeronautica :

    Macchi Mc.200 'Saetta'

    Macchi Mc.202 'Folgore'

    Reggiane Re.2000 'Falco'

    Reggiane Re.2001 'Ariete'

    Junkers Ju-87 B 'Picchiatelli'

    Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 'Sparviero'

    Choose your side! As a British, Commonwealth, or American volunteer in the RAF, serving in "the fighter pilots' paradise", make sure that the sacrifices already consented by the tenacious Maltese population, and by the brothers-in-arms who fought before you, won't have been vain. As a German pilot veteran of the easy playground and hard conditions of living of the Soviet Front, take your part in Rommel's glorious epic by neutralizing the stubborn rock that cripples the Afrikakorps' supply lines. As an Italian patriot, protect Sicily against the odious raids perpetrated by the English air pirates from Malta, and prepare the capture of this invaluable floating bolt on behalf of the King.

  3. Gazala 1942, a campaign for WoA

    May 1942. Rommel's successful counter-offensive, following the retreat of Autumn 1941, had regained most of Cyrenaica by February. But since, the Axis forces had been blocked before the Gazala Line: a deep minefield running through the desert from Gazala to Bir Hacheim, stippled with fortified "boxes", and supported by mobile armoured reserves. Having received enough supplies, Rommel now planned to brutally unfreeze the situation. 'Operation Venezia' implied a daring flanking move South: while the Italian X and XXI Corps were tasked to fix the Allied attention North, around Gazala, the Afrika Korps and the Italian XX mobile Corps would outflank the fortified "box" of Bir Hacheim, and face the British tank reserves in the open, far away from the minefields cover, where the supposed superior range of German guns should give a decisive advantage to the Axis forces.

    The frontal attack on Gazala was launched in the afternoon of May 26. The flanking move began that same night. In the morning of May 27, the Axis tanks overran one brigade, surprised while isolated in the open, and drove back two others. The Afrika Korps kept the momentum, heading Northeast, while behind it, the Italian armoured division 'Ariete' was tasked to capture Bir Hacheim and secure the supply lines.

    Here is my second campaign for Wings over Africa, the free add-on by The Dev A-Team re-enacting the War over the most legendary battlefields of North Africa. All of the required planes and objects are provided already, except my own Soft targets for WoA whose download will be required (link included in the ReadMe file). One single modified file is provided additionally, giving higher hosting allowance to several airfields in order for them to manage the large number of units crowded as historically as possible on both parts of the Gazala Line (accurate details in the ReadMe file). This file is actually the same that the one enclosed with my former campaign Crusader 1941, so is compatible with both campaigns, and doesn't spoil the other campaigns by The Dev A-Team. A French translation of the campaign texts, as well as a handful of new counters are also included. Now choose your side, and protect or break open the gate to Egypt!

  4. Operation Crusader 1941, a campaign for WoA

    On mid-November 1941, six months had passed since Rommel's Afrika Korps and the Italian Army of Libya had driven back the Western Desert Force to Marmarica, secured positions at Sollum and Halfaya, surrounded and besieged the port of Tobruk. All of the Allied ill-planned counter-attacks against Rommel's strong positions so far had failed. Yet, though scarcely and expensively supplied by sea, the Tobruk Fortress still stood fast, fixing enemy forces and denying this strategic supply port to the Axis. Now Rommel was ready to deliver a heavy and, he hoped, decisive blow against Tobruk by November 20. Therefore, he had ordered his subordinates to ignore all of the deceptive maneuvers the British could attempt against his Eastern positions in order to disorganize the assault.

    Unfortunately for Rommel, it was a major offensive that Cunningham's Eighth Army was actually planning, named 'Crusader' after the new cruiser tank model just delivered on the Desert front - both the tank and the offensive crystallizing great hopes. While the XIII Corps was to threaten and locally outflank the main enemy positions at Sollum and Halfaya, the XXX Corps, with 7th Armoured Division as a spearhead, was to advance deeply into Rommel's rear lines and seek a decisive battle in the open against the outnumbered Panzers. The flanking maneuver began on November 16, and when the 7th Armoured Division stroke the Italian division 'Ariete' on November 18 at Bir-el-Gubi, Rommel didn't understand at once that he was to lead a major and decisive battle.

    Welcome to the first of my first two campaigns designed for TK games – actually, for a marvellous free add-on for TK games. A 'Gazala 1942' campaign shall indeed be uploaded very soon. So please forgive some possible mistakes and omissions, due to sometimes scarce or conflicting sources. I need your indulgence, and possibly, if wanting to share, your informations and sources to amend my database for my other projects.

    Almost all of the required planes and objects are provided already in the excellent Wings over Africa mod, except an Italian skin for Stuka. Fortunately, Wrench has designed an adequate model which is available for downloading at Combatace. Also, my own Soft targets for WoA will be required. All of the links are included in the ReadMe file. Some modified files are provided, allowing some Italian units to fly the Fiat G-50 in campaign with adequate markings, and giving higher hosting allowance to several airfields in order for them to manage the large number of units posted as historically as possible on the start line of the offensive (accurate details in the ReadMe file). A French translation of the campaign texts, as well as a handful of new counters are also included. Now time to take off and fight for Tobruk!

  5. 1962 the germans at Red Thunder

    This campaign is made for a tutorial with the title:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    What i must do to to bring a new Air Force in a stock campaign?
    ===========================================
    Lets say i want to mod the WOE stock campaign Red Thunder 1962 and want to include the westgerman and the east german airforces.
    First we need the files
    woeCamp1.ini
    and
    WOECAMP1_DATA.ini
    both files you find in the folder Campaigns/woeCamp1
    if not, then you must extract them with an extraction tool like SFP1E extractor
    Make following steps:
    1.) open files woeCamp1.ini with windows notepad editor
    2.) look for the lines
    [CampaignData]
    CampaignName=1962
    DataFile=1962_data.ini
    CampaignMap=GermanyCE
    Service001=USAF
    Service002=RAF
    Service003=France
    3.) add now
    Service004=EGermany
    Service005=WGermany
    4.) save the file.
    Now we have included the Luftwaffe and the LSK/LV as new airforces which can deploy units in the campaign.
    Our next step is to bring 2 east german and 3 west german units in the campaign. The east germans we place at Holzdorf AB and Peenemünde while the west germans we place at Wittmundhafen, Neuburg and Büchel.
    5.) open file WOECAMP1_DATA.ini with notepad editor
    scroll to the last airunit entry which is
    [AirUnit078]
    AircraftType=IL-28
    UnitName=305 BFAP
    ForceID=2
    Nation=SOVIET
    StartDate=11/15/1962
    DefaultTexture=SovietSilver1
    BaseArea=Parchim Airbase
    ......................
    6.) after this entry we will place the 2 east german units
    8.) save the file.
    BE CAREFULL: you must place the units at existing airfields. Which AB are existant you find in the GermanyCE_targets.ini.
    Make sure that the names of the baseses are the same in Targets.ini and campaign_data.ini.
    For instance if you write
    BaseArea=Wittmundhaven Airbase
    instead
    BaseArea=Wittmundhafen Airbase
    the unit will not exist in game.
    After this we must include the new created air units into the woeCamp1.ini file, if we want to fly the birds of this units. If not, then we have nothing to do anymore. But i want to fly the MiG's for the LSK and the Starfighters for the Luftwaffe, so we continue:
    9.) open file woeCamp1.ini
    10.) scroll to the end and include following lines:
    //LSK units
    [EGermanyUnit001]
    UnitName=JG-8
    ForceID=2
    UnitID=34
    StartDate=1962
    DescFile=woe1Start.txt
    StartText=woe1Start1.txt
    AircraftType=MiG-17F
    [EGermanyUnit002]
    UnitName=JG-2
    ForceID=2
    UnitID=35
    StartDate=1962
    DescFile=woe1Start.txt
    StartText=woe1Start1.txt
    AircraftType=MiG-21F
    //Bundesluftwaffe units
    [WGermanyUnit001]
    UnitName=JG 71
    ForceID=1
    UnitID=46
    StartDate=1962
    DescFile=woe1Start.txt
    StartText=woe1Start1.txt
    AircraftType=F-104G
    [WGermanyUnit002]
    UnitName=JG 74
    ForceID=1
    UnitID=47
    StartDate=1962
    DescFile=woe1Start.txt
    StartText=woe1Start1.txt
    AircraftType=F-104G
    [WGermanyUnit003]
    UnitName=JBG 33
    ForceID=1
    UnitID=48
    StartDate=1962
    DescFile=woe1Start.txt
    StartText=woe1Start1.txt
    AircraftType=F-104G
    The most problematic part is the UnitID= number
    you must count which number the single unit has. For the blue side and for the red side.
    For instance, the JG-71 is the 46th blue unit. To get this number is relativly simple. You must look in the WOECAMP_DATA.ini and look for the last "blue" air unit. If you look right it is the 42nd TRS which has in the campaign the air unit number 045 [AirUnit045].
    Thatywhy the next blue air unit has the UnitID=46, then comes 47 and so on.
    With the red air units it is a little bit mor difficult, because the first red air unit has in the data.ini the number [AirUnit046]. But in the woecamp.ini it is not designated as UnitID=46, because it is the first "red" air unit and thatswhy would get the designation UnitID=1 (only if the unit would be flyable)
    To get the correct UnitID= number of the 2 east german units we must count all red air units. If you do it you will see that we have in the stock campaign 33 soviet (red) air units. Thatswhy the first east german unit get the number UnitID=34 and the other UnitID=35
    11.) Save the file.
    12.) Finally comes the testing of the campaign.
    Thats it.
  7. WOV Air & Ground War Expansion Pack Gold - VPAF Add-on
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    WOV Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1 - VPAF Add-On
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This is an add-on package for the "Wings Over Vietnam: Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1" available at CombatAce. This add-on makes most major aircraft of the Vietnamese People's Air Force (VPAF) flyable with custom third-party cockpits and avionics. It also contains "Red" versions of the three main WOV campaigns, allowing you to fly VPAF MiGs against opposing USAF, USN, & USMC aircraft.
    This add-on package is designed to be applied over the top of an existing installation of version 2.1 of the Expansion Pack with the latest update package applied. You can download the three main Expansion Pack files here:
    Part 1:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10281-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-1/
    Part 2:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10282-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-2/
    Part 3:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10300-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-3/
    The latest update package for the Expansion Pack can be found here:
    Feb. 2011 Update:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10658-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-feb-2011-update/
    You should have the latest updates for the Expansion Pack before applying this add-on package.
    Please take a look over the remainder of this ReadMe before installing the update.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Installation
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The installation process has two phases: one for all patch levels; a second for the Aug. 2006 patch level. Here's how to apply this update package:
    1. Ensure that WOV is properly installed and patched to either the 8.30.2006 or 10.20.2008 level.
    2. Ensure that the Expansion Pack v. 1.1 (Mar. 2010) is installed to your WOV Installation Directory and that the latest update for the Expansion Pack is applied.
    3. Unpack WOV_AG-XP_VPAF.7z to a safe place on your drive.
    4. Open the \All_Patch_Levels directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted.
    If you are running WOV at the Oct. 2008 patch level, then your installation process is finished. If you are running at the Aug. 2006 patch level, then you have one last step.
    5. If you are running the Aug. 2006 patch level, then open the \Aug_2006_Patch directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted.
    That's it. You should be good to go.
  8. Operation: Polar Glory '99 v1.03
    // Russian Invasion of Iceland 1999
    // --------------------------------------------
    The proposed construction of US missile defence systems in former Warsaw Pact Eastern European countries poses the greatest threat to Russian national security since the Nazi invasion of the Great Patriotic War.
    The refusal of the Western Powers to negotiate on this issue has left the Kremlin with no option but to pursue a military solution. Full-scale war in Central Europe is considered detrimental to Russian national interest.
    A bold strike to occupy the strategically vital staging post of Iceland is considered to be an achievable goal which will demonstrate the resolve of the Russian people whilst avoiding a nuclear escalation of hostilities.
    Once occupied, Iceland will become the major forward missile and submarine base of the Russian Empire and will guarantee strategic control of the North Atlantic.
    Air and ground units of the Iceland Defence Force are on station to mount a defence of the island. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69, with units of Carrier Air Wing 7 embarked, is making all speed to the North Atlantic to oppose the Russian invasion. . .
    // INSTALLATION
    Ensure that all files listed above are installed.
    The files included in this download pack are set up to make it obvious where everything has to go.
    Contents of \Campaign folder to your WoE\Campaign folder, \Menu folder to WoE\Menu folder, etc.
    For those who are updating a previous version of this campaign mod, just drop the included files into your existing install, over-writing any previous version. This will break any earlier Polar Glory campaign still in progress, so you may wish to finish before updating.
    Any problems getting it up and running, give me a shout.
    // ----------------------------------------------------
    Notes:-
    I had a problem getting Su-33 loadouts to work in campaign mode. To get the missiles to show up, I had to use the weapons editor to remove StationCode entries from these missiles:- AA-11B, AA-10C and AA-10D. If you have nay trouble with this stuff, post in the support thread and I'll do my best to help out.
    For all those of you who say, "Why aren't you using the new TMF F-14A/B for SF2?"
    This is a "template" campaign based on all the stuff I have in my heavily-modded WoE Oct 08 install. The purpose is to get a workable Iceland campaign out asap, as this has been requested and is a mission goal. I am also behind the curve in modding SF2, and I am very keen to see what the new EPs and F-14 game will bring to the table in terms of naval warfare. Those of you who have tried my Midway campaign will know I can force naval engagements in the WoX engine, but there is no point busting a gut to get something done when it will be served up on a plate soon enough.
    Having said that, look out for "Operation: Nordic Hammer," coming soon for SF2 series.
    Meantime, have fun in the Battle for Iceland ;-)
    Bug reports, complaints and Single Malt to Baltika, c/o CombatAce ;-)
  9. Mirage 5D campaign
    Kaddafi's Eagles - Mirage 5D campaign
    It is small mod for WOI, which allows you to fly as a pilot of Libyan 69th Independent Squadron fighting against Israel during Yom Kippur War.
    This package includes:
    - modified version of stock Yom Kippur campaign;
    - modified Mirage 5D *.ini files, making the plane flyable;
    - hangar and loading screens for Mirage 5D;
    - AS.20 missile created by ErikGen;
    - "KillMarks for the Evil Ones", created by Horus3K (modified by me for Mirage 5D).
    Instalation:
    To install, simply paste all files to main WOI directory. If you have installed any additional weapons, you should install AS.20 missile manually, using weapon editor.
  10. Tomcat Over Europe '79
    This is small modification of stock WOE Red Lightning campaign letting Mirage Factory F-14A Tomcat operates from Nimitz carrier on the Baltic Sea near Danish Straits area.
    I changed stock CVA-63 carrier name to CVN-68 Nimitz and decals number to 68 (to be more similar). Also added Location013=Baltic Sea and placed carrier under Danish Straits area. And of course added USN Jolly Rogers squadron instead of last F-15A unit ([uSAFUnit029] -> [uSNUnit001]) with typical supply: AIM-7F, AIM-9L, AIM-54A, Tank330_F14_W.
    Requirements:
    - MF F-14A Tomcat (F-14A folder) properly instaled for first gen. sims (remember change F-14A.ini code format from UNICODE to ANSI, decals on right place and weapons) with VF-84 Jolly Rogers skin inside.
    http://combatace.com/files/file/11076-mirage-factory-f-14a-and-f-14b-tomcat/
    - Wings Over Europe, Oct2008b updated, Mirage Factory Weapons Pack 01/25/2009.
    Installation:
    - put WOECAMP2.ini & WOECAMP2_DATA.ini into Campaigns\woeCamp2\
    - GERMANYCE_TARGETS.ini & GERMANYCE_NATIONS.ini goes into Terrain\GermanyCE\
    - CVA-63.ini put in Objects\GroundObject\CVA-63\
    - Decals.ini into Objects\GroundObject\CVA-63\USNGrey
    and let overwright (BUT MAKE BACKUP BEFORE!)
    Play:
    Select Red Lightning campaign then United States Navy and you are ready to fly!
    Thanks to:
    - Third Wire for their stock things.
    - Mirage Factory for their beauty and killing Tomcat.
    Freeware licence.
    Enjoy.
  12. WOV Air & Ground War Expansion Pack Gold - Jan 2012 Update
    WOV Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1 - Jan. 2012 Update
    This is an update package for the "Wings Over Vietnam: Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1" Gold/Final Release available at CombatAce. Containing fixes and enhancements for both the Aug. 2006 and Oct. 2008 patch levels, it is designed to be applied over the top of an existing installation of the version 1.1 Expansion Pack. You can download the three main Expansion Pack files here:
    Part 1:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10281-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-1/
    Part 2:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10282-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-2/
    Part 3:
    http://combatace.com/files/file/10300-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-3/
    This update is designed to be applied over verison 1.1 (Mar. 2010) of the Expansion Pack. If you installed the original version 1.0 from Dec. 2009 but have not updated to the Mar. 2010 version (available in the links above), you should update before applying this update package.
    Please take a look over the remainder of this ReadMe before installing the update.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Installation
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The installation process has two phases: one for all patch levels; a second for the Aug. 2006 patch level. Here's how to apply this update package:
    1. Ensure that WOV is properly installed and patched to either the 8.30.2006 or 10.20.2008 level.
    2. Ensure that the Expansion Pack v. 1.1 (Mar. 2010) is installed to your WOV Installation Directory.
    3. Unpack WOV_AG-XP_Apr11.7z to a safe place on your drive.
    4. Open the \All_Patch_Levels directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted.
    If you are running WOV at the Oct. 2008 patch level, then your installation process is finished. If you are running at the Aug. 2006 patch level, then you have one last step.
    5. If you are running the Aug. 2006 patch level, then open the \Aug_2006_Patch directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted.
    Now, perform some CLEANUP. This update splits the A-1H Skyraider into two aircraft: the older A-1H, used by the USAF and VNAF; the new A-1H_USN, used by the Navy. All the skins for the new A-1H_USN are included in this update. You should remove the following unused USN skin folders from the older A-1H folder in \Objects\Aircraft:
    USNGrey1
    VA-25
    VA-36
    VA-52
    VA-75
    VA-95
    VA-115
    VA-145
    VA-152
    VA-165
    VA-176
    VA-196
    VA-215
    That's it. You should be good to go.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Optional A-1 Cockpits
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Included in the \OPTIONAL\A-1_Cockpits folder is an alternate cockpit for the A-1 Skyraiders. This cockpit, made by Dels, was released in Oct. 2011.
    The \A-1_Cockpits folder contains one copy of Dels' A-1 cockpit, including the \Cockpit folder as well as the necessary COCKPIT.INIs for each of the Skyraiders.
    Also included in A-1_Cockpits\old-cockpit are backups of the old .INIs and the old \Cockpit folder from the original Expansion Pack install.
    Note that the new A-1 cockpit is already installed to the newly added A-1H_USN aircraft. Thus, installation is necessary only for the older A-1H aircraft.
    To install:
    1. Remove the existing \Cockpit folder from each of the A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft (found in your SF2V Mod Folder).
    2. Copy the new \Cockpit folder to each of the A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft.
    3. Copy the new COCKPIT.INIs to the appropriate A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    A Note on the Helicopters
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Several helicopters have been added as flyable aircraft in this update. Set the "Flight Model" in "Game Play Options" to "Normal," and use your thrust vectoring controls in conjunction with the standard WOV flight controls to maneuver and fly the helos.
    At the end of the day, though, Strike Fighters is NOT a helicopter sim. That means helo flight models are rough, unrealistic, and borderline unstable. It also means that AI helo pilots can occasionally run into difficulties, esp. when trying to land these things.
    Until someone creates better helo flight models for WOV (or TK updates the ThirdWire flight engine to accommodate helicopters), that's just the way it is. If you don't like the way the helos fly, then don't fly them.
  13. Battle of Guadalcanal (fiction)
    With new WWII maps coming to play, I decided to make a WWII campaign.
    Unlike any WWII campaign, I took the liberty to add modern warbirds into the fray just for the fun of it.
    The creation of this campaign was influence by the movie The Final Countdown.
    The campaign is mostly an air war due to my limited knowledge on how strategic nodes work. So if anyone want to assist me in this (recommendations and so forth), I'd be greatful.
    The campaign currently only allow you to fly the F4F-4 and the F-14D because I have yet to add carriers in the campaign.
    Future plans may include adding carriers to the fray which add more US aircraft into the mix as well as the Japanese.
  15. WOV Air & Ground War Expansion Pack Gold - Terrain Update
    ------------------------------------------
    WoV A&G Expansion Pack: New Terrain Items
    for Older Expansion Pack Installations
    ------------------------------------------
    This package contains an updated set of terrain files for users of the WoV Expansion Pack who installed the original Expansion Pack distribution from December 2009 and all the subsequent updates through the "Feb. 2010 Refresh." It was created to bring older Expansion Pack installations current with the "updated" Expansion Pack files that were released early March 2010 without forcing users to download the complete set of "updated" installation files.
    - If you downloaded and installed the Dec. 2009 version of the Expansion Pack and also installed the "Feb. 2010 Refresh," then this update package is for you.
    - If you downloaded and installed the Dec. 2009 version of the Expansion Pack but did NOT install the "Feb. 2010 Refresh," then you can upgrade to the most current version of the Expansion Pack *only* by downloading the complete, updated set of installation files. You can find the three part set of updated Expansion Pack installation files here:
    Part 1:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10281
    Part 2:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10282
    Part 3:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10300
    - If you downloaded and installed the WoV Expansion Pack on or after 3 March 2010, then this update package is NOT for you -- the "updated" Expansion Pack files from March 2010 already contain all the files from this update.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Installation
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    To install this update, simply copy the contents of the \To_Install_Dir directory to your WoV Installation Directory. In other words, drag and drop the \Terrain folder to your WoV Installation Directory, overwriting as prompted.
    That's it. You should be good to go.
  16. Out of Africa '77 & Red Africa '77 v1.1
    // For SFP1/WoV/WoE Oct 08 patch
    // Thanks Dave!
    // Thanks to Deuces for Madagascar Terrain
    // And Thanks to Stary for Madagascar Tree Mod
    // -----------------------------------------------
    Out of Africa '77
    The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force is assigned to protect the lawfully elected government of Madagascar from a Soviet-backed Communist insurgency. The self-styled "Malagasy People's Liberation Army" is carrying out a campaign of terror against the populace and openly confronting government forces. The MPLA is a known terrorist organisation which is secretly supplied with arms, equipment and training by the USSR.
    Meanwhile, North Korea is massing troops on the DMZ. The bulk of USMC forces are urgently required to stabilise the situation in Korea, and the main elements of the CVBG are ordered to make all speed to South Korea.
    The US Government knows that it is essential to maintain a military presence in Madagascar or the MPLA will seize control. Honoring its commitment to defend Madagascar, VMA-542 'Tigers' and VA-153 'Blue Tail Flies' are ordered to provide Combat Air Support to the remaining ground troops of 1 MEF. 1 MEF is ordered to hold the line against the Communist advance.
    The supply situation is critical. There is no ETA for relief of the USMC forces on station. Make every shot count.
    // -------------------------------------------------
    Red Africa '77
    The Malagasy People's Liberation Army is heavily engaged in a patriotic war to free the people from the autocratic rule of the current President. The worker's army is opposed not only by the corrupt government troops, but by Imperialist American forces who oppose the liberation of the Malagasy People.
    The MPLA have two Tank Brigades and a squadron of aging MiG-17 fighters. They are supported by neighbouring Mozambique, whose government is sympathetic to the MPLA cause.
    Soviet foreign policy dictates that the revolutionaries be given military aid to preserve Soviet interests in the region.
    The Imperialists must be crushed!
    // --------------------------------------------------
    I recently re-discovered the utter gorgeousness of this terrain by Deuces and USAFMTL (Dave), with Treemod by Stary, and wanted to do something to say thanks to the guys who made it possible.
    So, I have completely re-vamped the original "Out of Africa" Campaign included with the terrain d/l to include a fully-fledged "USMC vs Communist Insurgents backed up by the Soviets" backs-to-the-wall defence of democracy on Madagascar.
    The main reason for the upgrade was to bring the Madagascar terrain.ini files up to speed to support all the various mission types, and to create a full ground war for the 1977 campaign.
    I have tried to stay as true as possible to the original intentions, I hope this will meet with the author's approval. This is one tough campaign to beat.
    Full credit to Dave (USAFMTL) for the original campaign concept and core files on which this mod is completely based.
    Enjoy!
    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:-
    1. Install Madagascar Terrain, and the MiG-17 "mad" skin from the terrain d/l package. Please note, it is not necessary nowadays to copy and re-name the terrain catfile, just set the catpointer in the terrain.INI file to the correct catfile.
    2. Install Madagascar Treemod
    3. Fly around a bit if you like, and wonder at the beauty of it all. Cheers to Deuces and Przemek, thanks guys ;-)
    4. Install the listed aircraft. You will need to check the Mystere's weapons are in your wep pack. Likewise with the MiG-21SM's missiles.
    5. If you wish to fly Red Africa campaign, you will need to make the stock TW MiGs flyable by adding cockpits. But, you've already done that, right? ;-)
    6. Depending on which game(s) you have, you may have to copy out some of the tanks. The required tanks are all in WoE, but do not all come stock in SFP1/SFG/WOV
    7. Then, and only then, install the various files included in this d/l pack. Overwrite when prompted. I have packaged it up so it should be obvious where it all has to go. You must use the included terrain .ini files or the campaign ground war won't work.
    8. Select "770114 Out of Africa '77" from the Campaign selection screen, and go fight the Commies.
    9. Alternatively, select "770114 Red Africa '77" from the Campaign selection screen, and go fight the capitalist Imperialists.
    10. Drop me a PM if you find any bugs or glitches, or to say hello, or to say thanks for the Red Flyable campaign, if you were one of the 2 people who asked for one ;-)
    11. The included files are completely compatible with Canadair's Out of Africa 3 v1.5 campaign, so don't worry if you already have that installed.
    12. And if I may make a personal request of Deuces, or Dave, or even Stary. If any of you guys still have the original TextureList which was used to build the released version of the Madagascar terrain, could you shoot it over to me please? The VN Texturelist included with the terrain d/l is missing many of the required tiles, and I can't create a texturelist from scratch without messing up all the detailed tiling that has already been done. I would really like to add a few airbases, cities, settlements and so forth, and populate the islands, etc, etc, with a view to building a modern-day campaign for this terrain, and expanding the targetlist; but it can't be done without the original texturelist. Thanks again for all the hard work which has obviously gone into this terrain.
    13. For those with WOE, I have included an alternative campaign DATA.INI file which will use the stock AV-8A as a flyable in place of the AV-8C. Just re-name this file to replace OUTOFAFRICA77_DATA.INI file if you wish to use it. I have noticed, while test-flying Red Africa campaign, that the 08 patch level AI has some trouble flying the AV-8C. It may be that the FM for that bird needs an upgrade to the latest game build level. That is beyond the scope of this mod.
    Happy Hunting!
    Cheers to one and all!
    The near future. . .
    The peace process in the Middle East is in danger of falling apart. Border clashes continue daily and tensions between Syria and Israel rise to breaking point.
    Iran continues to flex its military muscle, secretly developing nuclear weapons capability and engaging in a massive build-up of conventional forces.
    Finally, the flashpoint comes when the Islamic Egyptian Jihad assassinate the pro-western Egyptian President. Revolution sweeps Egypt and a new strongly pro-Arab, anti-Western fundamentalist government takes power.
    With the main Western powers bogged down in an increasingly bloody and futile conflict in Afghanistan, the world looks on in horror as a new Jihadist coalition of Syria, Egypt, Iran and Algeria launch a full-scale offensive to bring about the obliteration of Israel. . .
    Special Thanks to Johan217 for his WoI campaigns expansion files, from which this mod was partly developed.
    Thanks also to TK for his holiday sale on the older WoX titles, which persuaded me to pick up WoI, long before I get my flashy new gaming rig and switch completely over to the SF2 series. Cheers, TK ;-)
    2. Installation:
    A. PRELIMINARY NOTES
    The WOV Air & Ground Expansion Pack can be installed to a standalone install of WOV patched to either the 8.30.2006 or 10.20.2008 level. Patch installers to bring your WOV installation to either of these patch levels are available from ThirdWire:
    http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads.htm
    All ThirdWire patches and updates should be applied BEFORE installing the Expansion Pack. For help with installing patches for Wings Over Vietnam, see this page at CombatAce.com:
    http://forum.combatace.com/topic/25880-official-game-patches-and-services-packs/
    This expansion pack should not be installed to "Strike Fighters 2: Vietnam" (SF2V). A separate expansion pack designed specifically for SF2V is available in the CombatAce.com Downloads section:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=407
    We strongly recommend installing this expansion pack to a "clean," unmodded WOV Installation Directory. Installing to a WOV Install Dir that contains other mods (e.g., new aircraft, weapons, ground objects, etc.) could result in a partially or completely broken installation. Likewise, we do advise against installing any of the several "weapons packs" available at CombatAce.com following installation, as doing so could very well break weapons and loadouts. If you want to add additional weapons, install them individually.
    B. THE MAIN INSTALLATION
    To install this expansion pack properly:
    a) Ensure that "Wings Over Vietnam" is already installed and patched to either the 8.30.2006 or 10.20.2008 level.
    b) If you have a prior installation of WOV that is already modded, then you will need to create a second install of WOV for use with the Expansion Pack. For help creating and managing multiple installs, see this discussion at CombatAce:
    http://forum.combatace.com/topic/39622-multiple-installs/
    c) Unpack all three .7z files (WOV_AG-XP_Part1.7z, WOV_AG-XP_Part2.7z, WOV_AG-XP_Part3.7z) to a safe location on your drive.
    d) Simply drop the contents of the "To_Install_Dir" folder into your Wings Over Vietnam Installation Directory, overwriting existing files as prompted. By default your WOV Install Dir should be located here:
    \Program Files\ThirdWire\Wings Over Vietnam\
    If you have installed WOV to another location, then drop the contents of "To_Install_Dir" in that location.
    If you are running WOV at the Oct. 2008 patch level, then your installation process is finished. If you are running at the Aug. 2006 patch level, then you have one last step.
    e) If you are installing the expansion pack to Wings Over Vietnam patched to the 8.30.2006 level, then you have an additional installation step. (If you are installing to WOV patched to the 8.20.2008 level, skip to the next step.)
    If your WOV is patched to the 8.30.2006 level, find the \2006 folder in the location where you unpacked the Expansion Pack files. Then drag and drop the contents of the \2006 folder into your Wings Over Vietnam Install Dir, overwriting existing files as prompted.
    That's it. You should be good to go.
    C. OPTIONAL INSTALLATIONS
    Optionally, install the items included in the \Optional directory (see the "Optional Installs" section below for more information).
    You may also install the extra items and other bonus mods included in the \Extras folder. Please see the ReadMes included in those directories for more information.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    3. Optional Installs
    Depending on your system and preferences, you may want to install some of the items included in the \Optional directory.
    Please note that for some of these optional items we have included versions for both WOV 2006 and WOV 2008. You can find these alternate versions in sub-folder labeled \WOV2006 or \WOV2008 respectively. You should always install the version appropriate for the patch level of your installation of WOV.
    A. Alternate Terrain Tiles
    By default this expansion pack installs Pappa Goat's re-painted versions of the Brain32/Green Hell 2 tiles. If you would prefer to use the original tiles by Brain32 and CA_Stary (Green Hell 2) -- which are characterized by a lighter, more blue-ish tint -- you can install those original tiles from the \Optional\GH2_Alt directory.
    To install, simply copy all the .BMP and .TGA files from top level of the \Optional\GH2_Alt directory to the following locations, overwriting files as prompted:
    [WOV Install Dir]\Terrain\VietnamSEA
    [WOV Install Dir]\Terrain\SouthVietnam
    The sub-directories of \Optional\GH2_Alt contain alternate air base tiles and differently sized trees that you can also use to tweak the terrains' appearance to your liking. The \_wov200x sub-dirs contain alternate terrain DATA.INIs for WOV 2006 and 2008 that advanced users can mine for alternate terrain graphic settings.
    B. Alternate Exhaust Emitters
    On some systems the custom exhaust emitters used on for the B-52s, F-4s, and the F-104C may cause slowdowns. If you experience severe frame rate drops whenever these aircraft are visible, you might consider switching to versions of the aircraft that use the standard DirtyExhaustEmitter.
    To install aircraft versions that use the DirtyExhaustEmitter in lieu of custom exhaust emitters, simply copy the folders from the appropriate \DirtyExhaust\WO200x folder (excluding \_CustomExhaust) to the \Objects\Aircraft directory of your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted.
    A copy of the original DATA.INIs with the custom exhaust effects is included in the \_CustomExhaust sub-directory, in case you wish to revert back to the originals.
    C. Mobile SAM Launchers
    If you wish to increase the SAM threat in North Vietnam, you can use mobile SAM launchers to boost the number of active SAMs. To install the mobile SAM launchers, simply copy all folders from the \Mobile_SAMs\WOV200x folder to the \Objects\GroundObject directory of your WOV Install Dir.
    Note any mobile SAMs that exist in \Objects\GroundObject will show up in CAS missions in the "Easter Offensive" Campaign.
    D. Alternate Flak Effects
    On some lower-end systems the custom flak effects used in this expansion pack may cause severe slowdowns, esp. in large strikes with lots of flak guns opening up on multiple flights of aircraft. If you see large drop in frame rate performance during intense flak bursts, then you may want to use the alternate flak effects available in the \Flak_Effects directory.
    To install, simply drag and drop the four .INI files from the \LOW sub-directory of \Flak_Effects to the \Effects directory in your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted. If you wish to restore the original flak effects, copy over the .INI files from the \HIGH sub-drectory to the \Effects directory in your WOV Install Dir.
    Note that using the alternate flak effects does NOT reduce the effectiveness of flak guns.
    E. Smoke-Marking Infantry Squads
    By default most friendly infantry squads (but not individual soldiers) will have their positions marked by red smoke. (The smoke-marking is performed by ENEMY squads -- a key point to remember.) There are several ways to customize this effect:
    1) If you would prefer not to have friendly squads's positions marked with red smoke, then you can turn that effect off. Copy the \NVA_Squad & \VC_Squad folders from \Optional\PopSmoke\Non-Smokers to the Objects\GroundObject directory in your WOV Install Dir, over-writing as prompted.
    2) If you would prefer to change the color of the smoke used to mark friendly squads, then drill down to the \Objects\GroundObject directory in your WOV Install Dir. You need to edit the VC_Squad_DATA.INI and NVA_Squad_DATA.INI. At the bottom of each file you will find the data for GunBarrel5:
    [GunBarrel5]
    SystemType=GUN
    GunTypeName=M18_Red_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Green_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Yellow_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Violet_Smoke
    The commented ( // ) GunTypeNames are disabled. Simply comment out the M18_Red_Smoke line and un-comment the line for the color you'd prefer to use.
    3) If you would like friendly squads to mark enemy squads with smoke, then drill down to the \Objects\GroundObject directory in your WOV Install Dir. You will need to edit the following files:
    ARVN_Squad_DATA.INI
    US_Squad_early_DATA.INI
    US_Squad_DATA.INI
    VNMC_Squad_DATA.INI
    At the bottom of each file you will find the data for GunBarrel5:
    [GunBarrel5]
    SystemType=GUN
    GunTypeName=DUMMY_GUN
    // GunTypeName=M18_Yellow_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Red_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Green_Smoke
    // GunTypeName=M18_Violet_Smoke
    By default GunBarrel5 for friendly squads uses the "Dummy_Gun," which does not pop smoke. Comment out the Dummy_Gun line and un-comment the line for the color of smoke you'd prefer friendly sqauds to mark enemy troops with.
    F. BUFF-less Campaigns
    On some systems B-52 strikes can degrade performance to the point where the game is almost unplayable. If you would like to fly campaigns that include no strikes by B-52s, copy the DATA.INIs included in the \NoBUFFs\WOV2000x folder to the appropriate sub-directory in the \Campaigns directory of yur WOV Install Dir. For example, WOVCAMPRT_DATA.INI would go to \Campaigns\Rolling Thunder, and so on.
    G. Old Diego's Optional Items
    Old Diego has generously allowed us to use a number of his terrain and ground object models. Most of these are installed by default with the expansion pack. A few ground object items, however, have been left as "optional" installs.
    Most of these "optional" are additional soldiers. We made them "optional" because we thought not all users would like the way the game will use them for Single Missions (esp. Armed Recon and CAS missions). For example, if you install the USArmyMortar item, you could see entire squads consisting only of mortar-equipped soldiers slugging it out with NVA regulars in CAS missions.
    These "optional" items from Old Diego could be useful for those building single missions for use with this expansion pack. If you would like to install these other items from Old Diego, simply copy all the folders from the \OldDiego directory to the \Objects\GroundObject directory in your WOV Install Dir.
    Please note that none of Old Diego's items may be re-used or re-distributed outside of this expansion pack without Old Diego's explicit permission. For a complete listing of the items from Old Diego included in this mod, see the section titled "Note on Old Diego's Items" towards the end of this ReadMe.
    H. Check-Six for WoV 2006
    Wings Over Vietnam 2008 introduced a new and very useful view: the ability to "check-six" (view straight back from the cockpit to check for bandits). If you would like to add this view to WoV 2006, open the \Optional\Check6_2006 directory and follow the directions in the ReadMe.txt.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    4. Known Issues
    - Default CAS loadout for the A-1H should include CBU-25's on the outer wing stations, but the AI doesn't know how to use that weapon. So, load them onto your own aircraft, but don't load them on AI! The same holds true for CBU-14's, which are similar to the CBU-25's.
    - The A-1H Attack loadout (used for CAS and Armed Recon missions) specifies LAU-32 rocket pods on the outer wing stations. These will not show in the Loadout screen even though they will be loaded for the mission. Likewise, the Strike Loadout specifies M117s on alternating wing stations, though not all will show up in the Loadout screen.
    - Similarly, in the Loadout screen some USAF F-4 loadouts may show either nothing loaded on the forward AIM-7 Sparrow missile wells or one (possibly two) ECM pods. In the mission itself those weapon stations will carry an ECM pod and a Sparrow respectively. In the same vein, Sidewinder loadouts on the F-4D (Late) and F-4Es in 1972 will show four AIM-9-E2s, though you will actually be carrying 2 AIM-9-E2s and 2 AIM-9Js.
    - The F-100D Wild Weasel aircraft is not historically accurate. The first Wild Weasels actually used two-seater F-100F Super Sabres fitted out with special electronic equipment to locate and track the radars associated with the SA-2 Guideline. In mid-1966 they began upgrading to F-105Ds. As there is no F-100F model that we are allowed to re-distribute, we elected to cobble together a single-seat F-100D Wild Weasel to stand in its place.
    We also spent some time working on the dock areas at Vinh, Hong Gai, and Haiphong, adding cranes, ships, and other structures to give the sense of an active port bristling with activity. We do plan to add still more target areas to the two terrains after the Gold release of this Expansion Pack, however, those will be released as separate terrain update packages.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    6. New Terrain Items
    To support and populate all the new target areas, we have added several dozen new terrain objects. These new objects have been drawn mainly from the following third-party add-on terrains for the Strike Fighters series:
    - DRV Terrain (by Gepard)
    - Black Sea Terrain (by PFunkWorks)
    - Libya Terrain (by Wrench)
    - Norway Terrain (by S.Ansons)
    Templates for some Target Areas have been adapted from:
    - Operation Desert Storm (by ODS Group)
    The new terrain objects that we've added should be familiar to those who have used other third-party add-on terrains, as these objects tend to show up in many different terrains. The majority of objects were originally drawn from these sources:
    - CA_Stary's Forests & Farms Mod
    - Polak's Hi-Rise Mod & ObjectsPak1
    - JSF_Aggie's Enhanced Runways
    - RadarDome by Grumpapotamus
    - HeadQuarters, Control Center, Gas station, & Factory Area by Wingwiner
    - RailwayStation by Armourdave
    If you are a modder and we've used one of your terrain items but neglected to give you credit here, please let us know. We would be more than happy to add you to the credits list.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    7. Terrain Notes
    This expansion pack splits the standard VietnamSEA terrain into two different terrains: North Vietnam and South Vietnam. We decided to go with a split North/South scheme in order to impose more control over the different operations in North and South Vietnam. To that end, there are some key differences between the terrains:
    A. North Vietnam
    The North Vietnam terrain includes all the target areas that you are familiar with in the stock WOV terrain. This terrain is designed primarily for Strike missions and the several mission types that support Strikes: Escort, Fighter Sweep (aka MiG CAP or MiG Sweep), and SEAD (Air Defense Suppression) -- in other words, the core mission types for the several air campaigns conducted against North Vietnam. You can also fly Armed Recon and Anti-Ship missions.
    B. South Vietnam
    The South Vietnam terrain includes new target areas and target items in South Vietnam, eastern Laos, eastern Cambodia, and the DMZ area. It also includes target areas in North Vietnam up through Route Pack II -- roughly speaking, the Vinh area. This terrain is primarily designed for CAS, Armed Recon, and Anti-Ship missions, though you can also fly Strike and SEAD missions in the lower Route Packs. If you are unfamiliar with the Route Package system used during the air war in Vietnam, see these discussions:
    http://www.airbattle.co.uk/d_history.html
    http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=1394
    Put simply, where the focus in the North terrain is air operations against North Vietnam, the focus in the South terrain is air operations in support of the ground war against the NLF (Viet Cong, or VC) and PAVN (North Vietnamese Army, or NVA) units.
    Here's another way to think of the differences between the two terrains when you're flying Single Missions:
    1. If you want to fly Strike missions against the big targets in North Vietnam, select the North Vietnam terrain in the Single Mission screen.
    2. If you want to tangle with MiGs as part of Escort or Sweep missions, select the North Vietnam terrain.
    3. If you want to do battle against North Vietnam's formidable air defense network, fly Air Defense Suppression missions with the North Vietnam terrain.
    4. If you want to fly CAS missions, choose the South Vietnam terrain. You will be tasked with supporting friendly forces throughout South Vietnam right up to the DMZ area.
    5. If you want to fly Armed Recon missions, you can go with either the North or South terrain. With the North terrain, you get armed recon missions along the Northeast and Northwest rail lines down through the lower Route Packs as well as the northern third of the Ho Chi Minh Trail in eastern Laos. The South terrain will give you armed recon missions in the lower Route Packs and the complete length of the Ho Chi Minh Trail from the Mu Gia Pass in the north all the way down through southeast Laos and northeast Cambodia.
    6. Anti-Ship missions are similar: you can fly them in both terrains. Northern shipping routes extend from Haiphong down to Dong Hoi; Southern shipping routes extend from Dong Hoi in North Vietnam down to the Go Cong area near the Mekong Delta in South Vietnam.
    Also, for historical accuracy, we have also imposed limits on the MiG bases that are operational and available to host VPAF squadrons.
    Early on in Operation Rolling Thunder, MiGs operated from a small handful of bases: Noi Bai, Kep, Gia Lam, Bac Mai, and Hoa Loc, though other airfields in the Haiphong area and the northwest existed. After the end of Rolling Thunder the North Vietnamese began building or renovating other airfields, including those in the southern panhandle of the country. These included: Ben Loi, Bai Thuong, Dong Hoi, Dong Suong, Khe Phat, Quang To, Quon Lang, Vinh.
    Both terrains impose start dates on this list of airfields that became operational only after Rolling Thunder. Until the start date for each airfield, the runways will not appear. All the other buildings in those target areas, however, will appear, being labeled "barracks areas."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    8. Environment Notes
    For this expansion pack we have implemented several well known terrain and environment mods:
    - Brain32's SEA Tile Repaint
    - CA_Stary's Green Hell 2
    - Pappa Goats re-painted versions of the SEA tiles from Brain32/CA_Stary
    - Cellinsky's WideSky (with alternate cloud layer BMPs)
    Given that players may have different needs and preferences, depending on their systems and aesthetic inclinations, we have have included a number of files that can be used to tweak the look and performance of these mods.
    A. Terrains - Trees
    You will notice several sub-directories in each of the main terrain directories in your WOV Install Dir. These contain alternate files that can be used to control the size and complexity of the trees used in the terrains.
    Tree Complexity/Detail
    The three "Detail" folders contain files to control the complexity and detail level of the trees. From the ReadMe for "Green Hell 2":
    Now you'll notice three folders: High Detail, Medium detail and Low Detail. These
    contain, well, three versions of the mod. Level of detail corresponds to "tree cluster"
    mesh complexity, NOT the number of trees!
    - High detail are the "X-type with base" and "X-type" trees, which look
    best from high angles,
    - Medium detail are the "X-type" trees, more cartoonish from top view
    - Low detail are the "fence-type" trees, less buildings in cities
    Generally try the Medium first, if you have low framerates, try Low, if you have decent
    system go ahead and try High, there isn't much difference between high and medium in
    performance hit. And read the section 5 about tips to control draw distance!
    By default both terrains use "High Detail." To switch to a lower level of detail, simply copy of the files from the appropriate "Detail" sub-directory to the main terrain directory that you wish to modify, overwriting as prompted.
    Tree Size
    By default both terrains use the standard "Green Hell 2" trees. Some users may prefer to use Bananimal's "Re-scaled Trees for Green Hell 2," which are smaller and more realistically sized than the original, larger trees, however.
    You can find copies of both tree sets (large and small) in the last two sub-directories in each terrain. Again, to install, simply copy the files from the appropriate sub-directory to the main terrain directory that you wish to change, overwriting as prompted.
    B. Terrains - Air Bases
    We were dissatisfied with the default air base tiles used by WOV -- those neat, nicely mown squares of green -- not only because they stood out like sore thumbs on the terrain, but also because they took up so much real estate (a precious commodity around Hanoi, which is surround by five air bases). So we developed alternate air base tiles by tweaking several of the default tiles from Brain32 and CA_Stary. These tiles are installed by default with the Expansion Pack.
    Although we think the new air base tiles look much better (and more realistic), we understand that some users may prefer the original air base tiles from Brain32 and CA_Stary. If you would like to restore the "old" air base tiles, copy the two .BMP files from the \ABs_Old sub-directory in each terrain folder to the main terrain folder for North and South Vietnam, overwriting as prompted. To restore the "new" air base tiles, simply copy the .BMP files from the \ABs_New sub-directory in each terrain to the main terrain folder.
    C. Terrains - Alternate Tiles
    By default this expansion pack installs Pappa Goat's re-painted versions of the Brain32/Green Hell 2 tiles. If you would prefer to use the original tiles by Brain32 and CA_Stary (Green Hell 2) -- which are characterized by a lighter, more blue-ish tint -- you can install those original tiles from the \Optional\GH2_Alt directory.
    To install, simply copy all the .BMP and .TGA files from top level of the \Optional\GH2_Alt directory to the following locations, overwriting files as prompted:
    [WOV Install Dir]\Terrain\VetnamSEA
    [WOV Install Dir]\Terrain\SouthVietnam
    The sub-directories of \Optional\GH2_Alt contain alternate air base tiles and differently sized trees that you can also use to tweak the terrains' appearance to your liking. The \_wov200x sub-dirs contain alternate terrain DATA.INIs for WOV 2006 and 2008 that advanced users can mine for alternate terrain graphic settings.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    9. Colors of AAA/Flak Tracers
    This update makes changes to the colors of tracers used with AAA/flak guns. As the new default colors may not suit some players, the table below can be used to adjust the colored tracers to personal preferences:
    Gun TGA File Color
    --- -------- -----
    12MM_DSHK tracer6.tga orange
    14MM_KPV tracer6.tga orange
    23MM_ZU23/T tracer2.tga green
    23MM_AZP23 tracer2.tga green
    37MM_ZP39T tracer4.tga red (solid)
    57MM_S68T tracer7.tga purple (solid)
    n/a tracer.tga orange/yellow
    n/a tracer3.tga yellow
    n/a tracer5.tga green (solid)
    n/a tracer6.tga orange/red
    The easiest way to adjust the color of tracers for AAA/flak guns is to modify the tracer TGAs in the \Objects directory of your WoV install directory (as opposed to editing the guns themselves). To change the color of particular tracer, simply rename the existing TGA file to something else, then copy the tracer TGA for the color you want and rename the copy to match the original name of the tracer TGA that you renamed.
    For example, if you wanted to change the color of the purple tracer used with the 57MM_S68T gun to red, you would:
    1. Rename TRACER7.TGA to TRACER7-OLD.TGA
    2. Make a copy of TRACER4.TGA
    3. Rename the copy of TRACER4.TGA to TRACER7.TGA
    It's that simple. Note that in some cases two guns use the same tracer TGA, so changing the tracer color using the method outlined above will affect both guns that use that TGA.
    10. Legal Stuff
    We have signed onto the freeware "list" on combatace.com. As such, the work here can be included or used in other mods as along as they aren't payware and credit is given to the creator(s).
    12. A Note on the KC-135A Tanker
    Dave at CombatAce.com has generously allowed us to include bpao's KC-135A Stratotanker, which originally appeared in the NATO Fighters 4+ mod package for SF2. Bpao was the heart of The Mirage Factory, and we are very fortunate to have been given permission to ship this high quality aircraft as part of the Expansion Pack. Needless to say, bpao's KC-135A may not be re-distributed outside of NF4+ or the SF2V/WOV Expansion Pack without Dave's explicit permission. The NF4+ all-inclusive mod for SF2V may be downloaded at CombatAce:
    -Other notes-
    -For the best gameplay experience, Play the Merc Campaign.
    -For even Better gameplay experience, add any aircraft you want to gain more access of planes.
    -Planning map is also included, so if you want to edit it to your reference, this map can help greatly.
    -Campaign description is not edited (Focusing more on the gameplay instead of the Backstory)
    -Some planes like the F-14D and F/A-18C are just renames of the F-14A and F/A-18A (It just sounds better)
    -Because of such renaming, be ready to do some manual modding
    -F-16C won't fire BVR missiles, so here is the link to fix not only the F-16C but all the F-16 series
    http://forum.combatace.com/topic/49820-f-16-bvr-problem/
    -modding the DATA.INI and Loadout.INI for all aircraft is a must
    -There is the Stock campaign which comes along with it (Overwrite if you want, it is untouched)
    Credit Goes to its respective owners of the aircraft, and mods, as well as Crusader for helping me
    figure out the BVR issue for the F-16.
    Future plans
    I Want to work on a campaign that takes place in 20XX which feature generation 5 fighters.
    I want to create the ultimate dogfight between the F-22 and Su-47, But until the Su-47 is complete,
    These 4 campaigns will have to make do.
  23. In Defence of Texas: Alamo 2010 Campaign
    Alamo 2010 Campaign
    v1.1 Update
    Expanded ground war for two fronts
    Expanded number of ground units
    Revised Nations for Latin American enemy pilot names and aircraft markings
    Corrected bug where SU-39 units did not appear
    Confederacy 2010 Campaign
    Just a couple of fun campaigns for use on Wrench's ASW terrain.
    There are lots of modern planes, action, BVR death and mayhem. Survivability is low.
    These are just for fun. The backstories are not to be taken seriously.
    See the "Requirements" files in each of the campaign folders for , uh, requirements.
    Any questions, give me a shout on Combatace.
    Cheers all,
    Baltika
    Alamo 2010
    Global Terror takes a new twist with the supremacy of Neo-Fascist rule in South America.
    States bordering the new Fourth Reich are given a simple ultimatum: submit or be obliterated.
    The National Socialist party sweeps to power in Mexico, peddling a litany of hatred and racism. Blaming the country's woes on its rich American neighbour, the Mexican vassal state of the New Fourth Reich launches a blitzkrieg into Texas. Funded by world Fascism, the latest available technology is pitted against the USAF. . .
    As the Texicans scramble to defend their state, the battle cry goes out. . .
    Remember the Alamo!
    ****************
    Confederacy 2010
    Against the backdrop of challenging world opinion and the continuing war on terror, and the ever-growing clamour following alleged civil and human rights abuses, coupled with growing crime and murder rates on the domestic front, the liberal and progressionist leader of the USA proposes a new Bill of Rights to Congress. Abolishing the Right to Bear Arms and the Death Penalty, the Bill provokes the greatest intellectual and popular debate on the state of the American Nation for 150 years. When the Bill passes the first stage of the legislative process, a powerful lobby of State Governors demand a referendum of the people before the Federal Government proceeds further. The referendum is held, but the result referred to the Federal Supreme Court following a "miscount" in a crucial swing State.
    The Bill is passed on the authority of the Supreme Court. Allegations of political interference in judicial independence are levelled, but the Washington Administration holds firm. The Federal Government issues an ultimatum: an amnesty for all citizens who surrender their weapons within 30 days, otherwise face prosecution to the full extent of the new law.
    The State Governors of Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina responded: no citizen shall be required to surrender any weapon, invoking the Second Amendment as interpreted by the US Supreme Court Decision of "District of Columbia vs Heller" 2008 07-290.
    Washington is unimpressed, citing the authority of the legislative process of the Federal Government. Popular demonstrations in the southern states multiply. As the western world looks on in horror, the Federal Government mobilises national troops to "maintain public order in disruptive States." The State Governors protest that such an order is unconstitutional. As the first Federal soldiers cross State borders, the Governors call out the militias in defence of their citizens' constitutional rights. With emotions running high, the call is answered. . .
    I made it as a quick and dirty mod to bridge the time till we (hopefully) will have areal Su-25 Frogfoot. Some files of the Su-39 are needed.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    INSTALLATION
    1.Unzip Folder Afghanistan87 into your Campaigns folder.
    2.If you have no Su-25 , then unzip the folder Su-25 into your aircraft folder.
