H.P.W. QC Damage Model for OFF BHaH HITR v1.1 Beta
by Herr Prop Wasche
Zip file contents:
aircraft folder with 47 .xdp files
HITR_xdp_Backup.bat
Restore_HITR_DM.bat
HPW_HITR_DM_1.1_ReadMe.txt
Thank you for downloading version 1.0 of my QC damage model for Hat in the Ring, the fantastic extension to Between Heaven and Hell, the already wonderful WWI flight sim modification of CFS3 by OBD Software. Like my previous damage mods, this mod is intended to enhance some of the visual damage effects already in the game. Depending upon the aircraft and the severity of the damage, aircraft should now be more likely to display not only bullet holes, but also rips and tears, oil and coolant leaks, exposed wing spars, and broken wing tips. Although entire wings may still break off at the root, the mod is intended to slightly reduce the frequency of this event. In addition, while all of the aircraft engines in the game have been made slightly more resistant to early damage, when severely damaged they are somewhat more likely to catch on fire and even explode! Finally, both your pilot and your AI opponent are slightly more vulnerable to becoming wounded--perhaps fatally!
Although I have worked for a long time implementing and testing these changes and am very proud of the results, keep in mind that this release is only a BETA. Therefore, kindly report any strange behavior or unusual results that you may come across. I am particularly interested in the behavior of the new planes introduced in the HITR expansion, as well as the behavior of the Nieuport and Albatros series of aircraft. You should quickly notice that these planes do not perform quite like you are used to seeing them perform with the standard damage model.
Lastly, I would again like to express my thanks and appreciation to OBD Software for their help and encouragement in the making of this damage mod. Of course, with the exception of the minor tweaks contained in this damage model, all work remains the sole work and property of OBD Software. If you have any questions or experience any problems with the installation of this mod, you can reach me at www.combatace.com at the Over Flanders Field forum. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the mod!
INSTALLATION: Important! Backup your HITR .xdp files first! Backup your HITR .xdp files by first copying the HITR_xdp_Backup.bat file to your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder and then clicking on it to run the program. After you have backed up your .xdp files, extract the entire contents of the HPW_HITR_DM_1.1.zip file to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. DO NOT unzip the file into the aircraft folder itself! If prompted, simply click "Yes to all" when asked if you wish to replace files. If at any time you wish to return to the stock HITR damage model (for either campaign or MP use), simply click the Restore_HITR_DM.bat file included in the zip file and automatically placed in your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. In order to re-apply the mod, simply re-open the HPW_HITR_DM_1.1.zip file and extract the aircraft folder to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder.
NOTE: This mod is currently intended to be used in QC battles ONLY. If you use the mod in the campaign, only YOUR plane will have the modified damage model. All AI aircraft will still be using the stock damage model. A damage model for all of the airplanes in the campaign will be released (hopefully) in the very near future.

Albatros D.Va 'Man of Letters'
the original Albatros D.Va skin was created by Paarma.
I thought it would be cool to have an Albatros covered in letters. although I had tried using text overlays I didn't like the way it looked.
last year I hand-stamped a white coat with black letters as part of a Halloween costume-- and it occurred to me that I could photograph this coat for more satisfying results. the hand-stamped inconsistencies feel more 'believable' on the curving surfaces of the Albatros.

Sound Tweak
By Creaghorn
Here a soundtweak for more realism if the devs don't mind
contents are new sounds for AI flown aircraft with original engines of the apropriate planes and doppler-effect. right now only a few AI engine sounds are standing for many different aircraft. now you are going to hear the right engine for the right type.
furthermore i tweaked the soundfile to have the effect that when an aicraft gets closer you'll hear it louder and vice versa. currently it's wether on or off.
also you'll hear now flak bursts the louder the nearer it is, and softer the further away it is.
additionally i tweaked the air explosion files (when an aicraft is burning and exloding). the explosion itself is the very same. now you'll have additionally some broken engine, overrides etc.
contents are:
Inline-scouts (albatros etc.)
Inline-twoseaters
Sopwith camel
Other Sopwith engines, besides the camel (pup, tripe, strutter etc.)
DH2
Various Nieuport versions
Spad
Se5
Fokker rotaries
sound-effect file drop into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
wav-files drop into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\sounds
the engine files won't replace anything, the explosionfiles will replace it, so please back up first the original ones. same goes for the sound-effect file. please save the original before replacing.
all original contents belong to OBD software

Sound Tweak II. 100% improvement
By Creaghorn
Here is soundtweak II. for more realism.
contents are new sounds for AI flown aircraft with original engines of the apropriate planes and doppler-effect. right now only a few AI engine sounds are standing for many different aircraft. now you are going to hear the right engine for the right type with doppler effects.
there are now 7 different AI-engines for each type, wich are randomly generated in a formation. so you'll hear the same aicrafts and same engine types around you, but in 7 different patterns, so the strange sound when all engines are synchronized is definitely gone!!! every aircraft sounds now differently!!! now you'll feel like really beeing there. i also softened a little bit AI engines, because feedback said it was a bit too loud.
furthermore i tweaked the soundfile to have the effect that when an aicraft gets closer you'll hear it louder and vice versa. currently it's wether on or off, as before.
also you'll hear now flak bursts the louder the nearer it is, and softer the further away it is.
additionally i tweaked the air explosion files (when an aicraft is burning and exloding). the explosion itself is the very same. now you'll have additionally some broken engine, overrides etc. very immersive.
additionally the frontambience is now also dependent of distance. the closer and lower you come to the frontlines, the louder it gets!!!
contents are:
7 patterns of Inline-scouts (albatros etc.)
Inline-twoseaters
7patterns of Sopwith camels
7 patterns of other Sopwith engines, besides the camel (pup, tripe, strutter etc.)
7 patterns for Nieuport versions
7 patterns of flying Spads
7 patterns of Se5's
7 patterns of Fokker rotaries
sound-effect file drop into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
wav-files drop into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\sounds
the engine files won't replace anything, the explosionfiles will replace it, so please back up first the original ones. same goes for the sound-effect file. please save the original before replacing.
there's no need for the first version. this version now includes everything as before, but much improved.
as a suggestion, my sound sliders are set
engine (own engine) 80
effects(AI-engines, explosions, guns etc.) 100
Cockpit (own guns etc.) 70
all original content belongs to OBD software
have fun.

Celia V: N24 of William A. Wellman, Esc 87
By RAF_Louvert
1917 Nieuport 24 "Celia V", belonging to Corporal William "Wild Bill" Wellman, American volunteer flying with Escadrille 87.
Wellman went to France and joined the Norton-Harjes Ambulance Corps, later transferring to the French Foreign Legion, and then on to the French Air Service. After training on Bleriots and Nieuports he went into the Lafayette Flying Corps, assigned to Esc 87. Once he was assigned a mission to drop pamphlets on the Germans. While performing aerobatics over German lines his motor quit, but he managed to crash land and flipped upside down. He couldn't get loose and was rescued by French troops. Wellman was nicknamed "Wild Bill" by the French for his one-man dawn patrols over enemy lines where he would bomb and strafe the Germans. He had two confirmed kills and was eventually shot down by AA fire. In the crash he broke his back in two places, his control stick went into the roof of his mouth and he ended up with a permanent limp and a silver plate in his head. When Wellman was discharged as a sergeant from the French forces in March, 1918 he left with the Croix de Guerre with two Palms, the Medaille Militaire and the citations, A L'Ordre de L'Armee and Le Pilote Americain, Marshall de Logis. After the war Wellman went on to become one of Hollywood's leading directors. The initial success of his career was launched with the 1927 WWI aerial saga "Wings", the first film ever to win the Acadamy Award for Best Picture, (information courtesy of www.worldwar1.com).
I wish to thank Polovski, Winder, OvS, and rabu for their outstanding skins and graphics that provide the starting point for these paint schemes.

OFF Map Lens to Laon
By Olham
For the "Krauts vs Crumpets" Campaign, I compiled the parts of RABU's OFF map
and built a larger map of them. I have copied and pasted in all the aerodrome names
now placed directly with the field.
This makes a search more difficult (use RABU's original maps for that), but gives you
a wider map of the war area from Lens in the north, down south to Laon and the Aisne.

New Map Grids for Western Front
This set will replace all the standard in-game and briefing maps. The grids cover the entire front to include west to London and south into Switzerland, and are based on the same grid sizes developed by Reddog. The grids are consistent from map to map and should make it easier to navigate with other flight members when flying online.

HPW Vertical Stabilizer Fix for HITR 1.0
Hey guys and gal(s):
This mod corrects a few minor oversights in the .xdp files for a couple of old and new aircraft in the HITR expansion pack from OBD Software. As such, this mod is meant to be used on stock installations of the HITR expansion only, and on no other version of the game. Over the weekend I will release an update of my QC DM which will also contain the fixes contained in this mod.

West of Colmar
this was scanned from Baedeker's Northern France as published in 1909. I've tried locating the local aerodromes as much as possible. but there aren't all that many there. I've used Hugh Wynne's aerodrome research to help me plant the aerodromes there. there is an aerodrome on Wynne's map north and south of Colmar. I've included both of these fields. if there are any aerodromes that I've missed feel free to point them out. it's a bit tricky finding some of the right places on these old maps.

NOTE: This mod is intended to be used in BOTH QC battles and the main campaign.
------------
Thank you for downloading version 1.0 of my Full Campaign damage model for Hat in the Ring, the official extension to Between Heaven and Hell, the already wonderful WWI flight sim modification of CFS3 by OBD Software. In addition to including .xdp files for all of the aircraft in the HITR campaign, this new version of the mod includes many additional tweaks (based on play-testing) made to the .xdp files since the release of the QC version. In particular, hit point values for many of the engines have been adjusted, along with wing root values for several planes, including but not limited to, all versions of Albatross, Nieuports, Spads, and many two-seaters. Minor corrections to the .xdp files for the Bristol Scout, DFW CV, Nieuport 24, and Nieuport 28 have also been included with this mod.
Overall, my intention with this damage model is two-fold: to slightly toughen up most of the airplane models in the game in order to slightly prolong dog-fights and to provide the human player with more visible signs of damage so he or she may choose to make their escape and live (hopefully) to fight another day! While all of the aircraft engines in the game have also been made slightly more resistant to early damage, when severely damaged they are somewhat more likely to catch on fire and even explode! Oil and coolant leaks should also be more likely to occur. Finally, both your pilot and your AI opponent are slightly more vulnerable to becoming wounded--perhaps even fatally!
I would again like to express my thanks and appreciation to OBD Software for their help and encouragement in the making of this damage mod. Of course, with the exception of the tweaks contained in this damage model, all work remains the sole work and property of OBD software. If you have any questions or experience any problems with the installation of this mod, you can reach me at www.combatace.com at the Over Flanders Field forum. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the mod!

GB Productions R Series Tondern Mission

Alright lads, we need a lad to volunteer for this raid. It might be a bit dodgy, flying over water, and such, but a nice hot chocolate when you return.
Simple really, destroy the Zeppelins and fly back, land on the Carrier, and Bob's your Uncle.
Don't forget to read your briefing.
Cheers,

Twin British Airships
Twin British airships, the R-80 and R-82 for Over Flanders Fields. These are fantasy aircraft for my Saturday multiplayer sessions and are not intended to be historically accurate for OFF as I believe the R-80 was actually a post war airship. Still, they're a lot of fun and are very stable bombing platforms with the new bombsight. They are standalones of the existing Zeppelin and can reside in your aircraft folder along with the Zeppelin. Just unzip the file and place the two folders in your aircraft folder.
Basically these are re-skinned Zeppelin standalones, with a new bombsight and weapons loadout.
I wish I knew who created the original Zeppelin so I could thank him for a great add-on.
Thanks to Stumpjumper for technical assistance and breaking out the bombsight.
Thanks to Loopy and Red-Dog for extensive playtesting.
I did the skins, loadout and new bombsight reticule. I have several mp missions made up and will share them after my current campaign is finished.
More info in the readme file and bombsite tips.

Fix for R-80, R-82 Gun Station ID
This small fix will quickly let you to see the exact gun station you've just switched to. Just unzip the file, copy the Allied_R80.xdp into the R80's folder and allow it to overwrite the old one. Then copy the Allied_R82.xdp file into the R82's folder and allow it to overwrite the old one.
Now you'll be able to more easily select the gun station you want in multiplayer, and in single player and multiplayer when you jump into or switch gun stations you'll get a clear message at the top of the screen letting you know which gun station you're in.
