    3. Firecage - Flanders Plane Fest Ver 1.0

      THIS IS FOR FE PRE EXPANSION PACK! THIS MAY NOT WORK WELL AFTER THE EXP PACK IS INSTALLED. I HAVE NOT TESTED IT YET..

      Welcome to Flanders !!!

      Please read the planesused.txt, the Planefest doc, and the installation.txt files for more info.

      1. The Fest is now split into (2) parts to make the campaign work properly.
      • One Campaign is RAF vs Germany
      • One Campaign isFrance vs Germany.

      2. Every Fighter Squadron will start from their own base. No base is shared between squads now. ** see the included .psp file for base locations.

      3. There may be bomber and fighter squads at same bases but not as a norm.

      4. This campaign uses a large amount of the Flanders Map. The squads are spread out quite a bit so I am hopeful all the squads will see different areas of the map in missions.

      5. There are no flyable bomber squads at this time.

      6. I have made a very intensive set of ground war paths so this should make for more ground realism in missions.

      7. For designing this campaign I used the following:

      • Firecage FM for the DR1
      • Peter01 FM’s for Bortdafarms Planes
      • Rotagen’s FM for Borts DIII
      • Ver 3.0 FMs for Latons Pfalz and Morane’s
      • Hard FM mode for the flight model
      • Flanders Terrain by Edward.

      You do not have to use these add-on FM’s at all, it’s your call. This is only information what I used to test and design with since I get asked a lot.

    5. Industrial Objects

      This pack contains a variety of large, medium, and small industrial objects - plus two urban housing blocks. They were originally developed at the request of FE map makers so their appearance is typical of WW1. Wrench then pointed out that they could also be used for other maps - 1930s, WW2, and even parts of the Cold War. A modest selection of complimentary 1930s civilian vehicles is in development, and will be added in the future.

    11. Julius Arigi Alb D.III Oef

      Julius Arigi (1895-1981) was the second highest scoring ace in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Unlike most aces, Arigi was an NCO. On August 22, 1916, enemy aircraft were reported to be approaching the Flik 6 airfield. Arigi sought permission to take off and attack them. Because there were no officers available, to fly with him as observers, permission was denied. Acting against direct orders, Arigi took off with another NCO in his in his Hansa-Brandenburg C.I and shot down 5 enemy Farmans in less than one half hour. He survived the war, as the most highly decorated NCO in the Austrian Army Air Service, with 32 confirmed victories. No Hanroit HD-1s were among them.
      My time machine is no longer operational. These skins are interpretations, well-grounded interpretations, but certainly a mix of accuracy and flaws. I am aware of two variations from the photos and other sources. The rudder depicted is round at the trailing edge, rather than the straight. Both rounded and straight rudders were used on Alb D.III’s, but I would have preferred to use the straight edge type because there are photos of this plane which clearly show the straight edged rudder. Available models do not offer the straight rudder. Some Alb DIII OEF were filed modified by removal of the prop spinner, because some came loose in flight. Again the available models do not offer this variation. Modifications of this magnitude beyond my present skill. If you can do it, please contact me.
      Many sources were consulted in the preparation of these skins, including: Dr. Martin O'Connor, Air Aces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire 1914-1918, Austro-Hungarian Aces of World War 1 by Chris Chant, Mark Rolfe (Illustrator) / Paperback / Osprey Publishing (February 2002), Above the War Fronts by Norman L. R. Franks, Russell Guest, Gregory Alegi / Hardcover / Grub Street (September 1997), Windsock Datafile #19 Albatros D.III (Oef)/ Grosz/Colours & Markings by Ray Rimmel , The Aerodrome Forum, R.N. Pearson profiles and other material on line.

      Just drop the folder in your Albatros_D3OAW folder and select Julius Arigi, in the loadout screen. There is no need to edit the ini.

      This skins is made available only for your personal use. Please no distribution or republication of any part of these files. I’d appreciate any comments, especially with links to source material. Have fun.

    15. Plane Fest II - Edge of Insanity - Verdun

      Release 1.1
      06-20-09
      Nov-2008 Patch required

      This release does not have the added terrain mods, Balloon sets, or MG bunkers. I am waiting on a reply from the orig. designers of those mods to make sure they are good with including them in the Fest.

      Take all folders (1915,1916,1917,1918) and add them to your campaign folders.

      They will appear as 4 different campaigns in your drop down menu.

      I tried to get accurate release dates and hopefully each lane will show up on the dates around the time of actual release.

      All of the testing has been with Peter01's FM plane mods on all the planes that he has done. There are also some planes in these campaigns that peter has not done an FM for but, they worked just fine and alot of them are AI and have been tested as much as I could.

      There are some planes that are not included at this time and I am looking at releasing a new version soon that may have more planes included. As it stands right now I have around 60 planes in the 4 campaigns. I usualy have some spelling errors and such so a new update should be along very soon to correct those.

    16. New gun fire effect for First eagles

      New fire effect for first eagles.

      This is nothing fancy but anyways.

      The muzzlflash.tga has been shamelessly stolen from Stary's hollywood effects mod.

      So all the credits go to him!

      I resized and adapted it for first eagles so you can enjoy a realistic and beautiful
      muzzle flash as in the picture.

      For those who want to know what they are buying, you can check how the gun fire looks like on this vid:

      ======Instructions=======

      Put the "effects" folder content into your own game effects folder.

      Edit your gundata.ini (in objects folder for FE1)

      like the following

      I want my vickers to have the flash
      Change whatever gunfireeffect you had to "NewFireEffect" :

      FullName=.303 Vickers Mk I

      GunFireEffect=NewFireEffect <------------------

    17. Sikorsky S-16 Flatdeck

      Several versions of the S-16 were produced with slight variations in the fuselage and wing configurations. This version has a flat deck behind the pilot and ailerons on both wings. It is based on my earlier versions of the Sikorsky S-16, but is a completely new plane.
      The download includes 4 skins - 3 linen and one green - with appropriate decals. This plane has a fully functional cockpit. I have included my skinning templates so others can make new skins if they want.

      Credits
      My thanks to ojcar, who made the FM for the Sikorsky S-16.
      My thanks also to Nixou, who recorded the sound for the Gnome 80hp engine.

      Version 2 Notes
      I have made slight changes to model, especially to the way the plane is rigged, and Ojcar has made a new FM for this plane. I have also improved the skins and made new skins for some different Russian squadrons.
      Version 3 Notes
      This is a completely new plane with new LODs, skins, and cockpit. This version has higher detail and a lower poly count than the previous version. This model also includes better detail for battle damage to the wings.

      Installation instructions
      This is a completely new plane, if you have already installed the Sikorsky S-16 flatdeck, delete it, including the decals, and replace it with this version. The sound file remains the same.

      For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SikorskyS16_var" into the "Aircraft" folder in the FirstEagles/Objects folder. If you have the previous version, then you already have the sound file installed, otherwise you will need to move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder.

      For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SikorskyS16_var" into the "Aircraft" folder in the FirstEagles/Objects folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "SikorskyS16_var".  Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/SikorskyS16_var folder into the Decals/SikorskyS16_var folder you just made.
      If you have the previous version of the Sikorsky, then you already have the sound file installed, otherwise you will need to move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder.

    18. Fokker D.III

      The Fokker D.III was a more powerful version of the D.II, using the same wings and tail as the D.II. It had a 14 cylinder Oberursal rotary engine, which required changes to the fuselage but allowed the plane to carry two Spandau machine guns. Unfortunately, the engine had a low compression rate and the plane lost power at high altitudes. Never-the-less, German ace Oswald Boelcke scored 7 victories in 13 days flying a Fokker D.III.

      I have made two skins - a plain white linen, and a two color (brown and green) camo. I have also made a full set of serial number decals. My skinning templates are included in the download.

      Credits
      My thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Fokker D.III, and for providing helpful reference material for the engine and cowling.

      Installation Instructions
      For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "FokkerD3" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder.

      For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "FokkerD3" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "FokkerD3." Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/FokkerD3 folder into the Decals/FokkerD3 folder you just made.

    19. McCudden Vs 'Green-Tail'. (56sqn vs Jasta 5)

      Updated 18/4/08.
      Just a quick note to confirm that this mission will work with the expansion pack and April 08 patch, as long as
      you have ALL required skins, terrain etc installed.

      A Quick Mission for First Eagles: "McCudden Vs "Green-Tail"
      ===================

      This mission is a re-enactment of an actual aerial combat that took place on Monday 18th February 1918, at
      approximately 10.30am, between two "elite" units: 56 Squadron RFC and Jasta 5.

      56 Sqn were based at Lavieville, near Albert. Led by Major James McCudden VC (57 victories).
      Jasta 5 were based at Boistrancourt, near Cambrai. Led by Oberleutnant Richard Flashar. (2 victories)

      =====================================

      McCudden gives a quite detailed account of the combat on page 255 of his excellent book 'Flying Fury'. Essential
      reading for any student of the first air war.
      In the book he describes several encounters with an Albatros DV which he dubs; "Green-Tail". He acknowledges
      the flying ability and bravery of the German pilot repeatedly. In fact, McCudden thought it was "Green-Tail" that
      killed his good friend Cpt Richard Maybery (21 victories), on 19/12/17 during a fight with Jasta 5.

      ==================================

      To set the scene:

      McCudden's flight took off at about 10.00am from Lavieville on an Offensive Patrol, and crossed the lines over
      Bourlon Wood at 13000 feet...Almost immediately they spotted a patrol of Albatros DV's below...

      This is how McCudden descibes the action in his book:

      "I signalled the attack to the patrol, and down we went, with the sun behind us. I singled out the leader and
      fired a good burst from both guns, and I must have riddled the pilot, for he still flew on straight until the machine
      burst into flames, and it then fell over sideways. I got a plain view of the Albatros as it fell a flaming wreck.
      It was "Green-Tail"! Maybery was avenged!"

      McCudden went on to score a second victory during this dogfight, bringing down another Albatros DV very soon
      after despatching "Green-Tail".

      There has always been controversy over exactly who "Green-Tail" was, McCudden describes the plane as having
      a white inverted 'V' on the top wing, and the letter 'K' on its fuselage.
      It's now pretty well established that his two victims that day were Unteroffizier Justus Kaiser who was killed, and
      Uffz Von Stein who survived the encounter, but was wounded.
      It's likely that they weren't from Jasta 5 at all, but from Jasta 35 who were also based nearby, and often flew
      alongside Jasta 5.

      The Jasta 5 skins available for FE, with their green tails will do nicely for our purposes though!

      ========================================

      Mission and game limitations:

      For the purposes of this mission (seeing as we don't yet have a skin that fits perfectly), We'll have to choose one
      of the currently available Jasta 5 schemes as "Green-Tail"...
      Well, fortunately there is one with an inverted 'V' on the wing, which I consider to be the closest match.
      So if you want to duplicate McCudden's actions, that is the plane you have to single out and bring down, plus at
      least one other.

      =========================================

      Mission Guidelines:

      When the mission starts, you'll be at an altitude of approximately 12,500 ft. with a few miles to fly until you reach
      the lines over Bourlon wood. Keep climbing until you reach 13000 ft or even a bit higher, and keep to a heading
      of around 60 degrees.
      Don't forget, you're looking for the Albatros with the white 'V' on the upper wing. although it's not a mission goal,
      so don't get target fixated!...And make sure you SIGNAL YOUR WINGMEN when you sight the enemy by pressing:
      'TAB', then '1'. Otherwise you'll be on your own!

      That's all I'm going to tell ya...Good Luck!

      PS. I've decided to start this mission in the air because at the moment FE is not geared up very well for take off's
      and landings.

      PPS. I've included a few German two seaters roaming the area that you can hunt down after the main furball....
      If you survive and have any ammo left!

      ========================================

      By dhasdell.
      Available on Page 7 of the WW1 skins download page
      Not absolutely essential, but these markings are more accurate than the stock versions.
      Please note: If you want to fly as McCudden, then you'll have to select No.6 at the 'Loadout' screen.
      Nothing I do can induce the game to give the correct number automatically. Dunno why!

      Jasta 5 skins X 5.
      2 by JFM. 4 by Warbirds. (Yeah, I know that makes 6. Read on...)
      Available on page 13 and 16 of the WW1 skins download page
      Note that there are two versions of Flashar's "Dragon"...Only one required so take your pick!

      Many thanks to all the above artists for their most excellent contributions to this great game.

      ======================================

      Install the mission by unzipping the downloaded file to the following path:
      C:/Program Files/Thirdwire/WW1/Missions

      ======================================

      Phew!...Sorry for the long winded intro. I hope you enjoy flying this Quick mission and find it challenging enough.
      I've tried to make it as authentic as the game will allow.

      If you find anything wrong with it, or have any suggestions please let me know via any one of the FE forums.

      Cheers!

      Bucky.

    20. WW1 Palestine Terrain

      WW1 Palestine Terrain For First Eagles 2

      This is a modification of my WW2 modificaton of Gepard's modern "Suez" terrain, backdated (once again!) for use in WW1 with the approximate timeframe of 1914-1918. It is designed ONLY for FE2, as it takes advantage of the DX10 shaders and such. It may be possible to use in FE/FEG, but this has NOT been tested, and is NOT reccomended. Without some editing to the terrain's data ini (as it's been updated to NextGen standards), it will most likely 'have issues'. Those VERY familiar with terrain ini editing are welcomed to try; you can, however, expect NO support from me. You're on your own...

      This terrain REQUIRES the Desert terrain cat (or equlivant) to be present in your FE2 core install's /Terrains folder. -IT WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT IT!!- It has been tested with both the 1stGen SF Desert and extensivelly with SF2's Desert cat. You MUST have either SF or SF2 to copy the Desert terrain cat to you FE2 install. More details are in the "To Install" and "Selecting the Proper Terrain Cat" sections.

      The targets and types inis have been extensively edited for to (hopefully) remove most of the 1940s-era items, and all the airfields have been replaced with stock WW1 types. The game-generated parking slots have also been edited to increase the number of parked aircraft (Unlimited Ground Objects setting only). While not a perfectly historical map some 'suspension of disbelief' will be required for play. As is true with all games...

      There are several Ground_Attack routes for Army Co-Operation missions, as well as plenty for truck routes for Armed Recons. If shipping ever gets turned back on in First Eagles, there are shipping routes as well. However, there ARE several docked ships, and some 'convoy stations' for Strike missions (again, with these ittybitty bombs, don't expect to sink Naval vessels). Campaign builders, feel free to make whatever changes necessary to fix any an all errors I've created <grin>. Unlike my WW2 mods, I didn't research this one as intensely.
      New planning maps have been generated, but these are 'plain', with no cities or aerodromes shown; just the land and sea.

      Several new(ish) GroundObjects are included (ships for the most part), and several new guns for said ships, as well as 2 modified data inis for Geo's French 75 and German 77 mm artillery guns. Yes, they DO work! Weither they hit anything or not.....<grin>. It is also HIGHLY suggested you wander over to Geo's site and get the original WW1 objects, as they'll be needed here. Link is below

      Geo's WW1 Ground Object Paks available at his site:

      http://www.geos-aircraft.com/

      You might also want any other ground objects that are available, such as infantry or whathaveyous.

      As always, it's reccomended you unzip this to a temp folder somewhere's thats easy to find. This will give you access to the rest of the readme for full, detailed install instructions.

      Follow these instructions herein =EXACTLY= and you should have no problems. It's HIGHLY reccomended you READ this document completly through before installing this mod. As always, there's the usual "Notes" section for notes, explinations, clarifications and demystificatons.

    22. Airships

      Dirigibles were used by both sides on all fronts during World War I. Early in the war, they were used for recon and bombing, but were soon replaced by aircraft. However, because they could stay aloft for long periods, and their ability to hover, airships continued to be used for naval operations, especially for scouting and anti-submarine patrols.

      I have created five different types of airship. They are all identified as "Balloon" and they are all armed with machine guns. Drop them into your Ground Object folder and they will show up over the battlefields for more challenging balloon busting missions. I have included alternate skins for some of them so you can use them for different nations.

      Historical Notes
      The R23 and L32 are relatively accurate models of actual airships. The Type M, Type PL, and Type VZ are more or less generic representations of popular airship types which were used by different nations. I have averaged out the national and manufacturer variations, but the overall size and shape is relatively accurate.

      I have taken liberties with the gondolas and simplified the rigging in order to keep file size down and frame rate up.

      Installation Instructions
      Unzip the file and copy the folders you want into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObject folder.

    23. Airco DH9a "Ninak"

      The Airco DH9a, called the "Ninak" ("nine a") was introduced in June 1918 to replace the underpowered DH9. The 400hp Liberty engine required changes to the front of the fuselage, otherwise the plane was pretty much the same as the DH9. Although it was introduced late in the war, the DH9a did see service during the war, and was used extensively afterwards.

      I have included two skins, a brown and an olive color. Both use the letter decals that come with First Eagles (which you can set in the loadout screen) and I have included a set of serial numbers which will be applied randomly. There are also loadouts for light, medium, and heavy bomb loads.

      The skins are rather generic, I have included my skinning templates for those who wish to make better skins.

      Credits
      My thanks to Ojcar for once again making an excellent data file for the DH9a.
      My thanks also to Sinbad for providing a great deal of resource information for this plane.

      Installation Instructions
      For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "AircoDH9a" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder.

      For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "AircoDH9a" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "AircoDH9a". Move the folder named "D" from the Airplanes/AircoDH9a folder into the Decals/AircoDH9a folder you just made.

      April 5, 2012 - Replaced data file with new version to fix problem with take offs and landings and making the plane fly better.

    24. FE2 Realistic Campaign Weather Mod

      If you have ever noticed, First Eagles 2 has a problem with the Campaign Weather never changing after the first mission in any particular campaign game. Since TK will not apparently be updating First Eagles 2 with a patch to correct this bug, I have created a mod to circumvent this problem. This mod will allow you to manually change the weather in your campaigns missions so you do not have to fly the same weather over and over again.
      For this mod to really work well, you need three items (all of which are included in this package):
      Modified weather files
      JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME)
      Random Number Generator

      What this mod does is convert any Clear, Scattered or Broken weather into one of the five types of weather I have provided. Unfortunately I cannot convert the stock FE2 Overcast or Inclement weather because there is a setting inside the FirstEagles2.exe that mandates the cloud layer between the ground and the clear sky above and I have not figured out at this point how to circumvent that internal setting. Also rain can only appear in the stock inclement weather because of the same internal FirstEagles2.exe settings.

      What I can do is allow you to change any Campaign Clear, Scattered or Broken weather to 1. Clear; 2. Scattered Less (clouds); 3. Scattered More (clouds); 4. Broken or 5. Overcast. Each of the five Campaign Weather folders has three different weather looks to them and if you start with Clear in your Campaign, you have a forth automatic option (no horizon clouds), which is another FirstEagles2.exe internal setting.

      Tally Ho;
      Panama Red

      A long readme is included in mod folder on how to set up the FE2 Realistic Campaign Weather Mod.
