Kamchatka Peninsula

Summer Terrain

v1.0

by Baltika

For Wings Over Europe October 2008 Patch

This is my first full-fledged terrain mod. It includes a base tileset by Deuces, together with Stary's forests and farms mod adapted for use on this terrain. I have also created a large number of additional transition tiles based on Deuce's tiles, which may be of interest to terrain builders.

The tile naming format is compatible with the stock GermanyCE tileset for ease of expansion, but be aware that the excellent hi-res and seasoned tilesets by Brain32 and Stary in particular will not have all the necessary transition tiles, so use them with caution. Should you wish to use the included transitioned tileset for your own terrain mods, copy all the terrain .bmp files and .tga files into the "Tileset" folder and convert the .tga tiles to .bmp format. See Gepard's excellent terrain tutorials in the KB at CA for more info.

All mission types are activated, for both red and blue side flyable. The Americans have their existing bases on the Aleutian Islands. I have handed the northern Kuril Islands to the Japanese for the sake of this scenario. Take it as read that the Soviets were sufficiently distracted by the ground war in central Europe that they lost their hold on the Kurils to Japan. Now, the Soviets are engaged in a fierce battle for control of the strategically important Kamchatka Peninsula.

This is a target-rich, fictionalised version of the Russian Far East. There are many installations and industrial zones in the Kamchatka Krai that you will not find in real life. Equally, as much real-life stuff as I could discover went into the mix. Also, this is intended as a showcase of a fully-transitioned tileset, so there is much more agriculture than you would get at these latitudes. Just kick back and enjoy the scenery.

Finally, there is a monstrous presence lurking at the heart of the Peninsula who has risen from aeons of deathless sleep to trouble the affairs of men once more. Bragging rights to the first person to take a recon photo of this horror and make it back to base alive, and with their sanity intact ;-)

INSTALLATION:-

Simply unzip and drop the "KAMCHATKA" folder into your Wings over Europe/Terrain folder.

It is highly recommended that you install the files listed below or you will not get the full intended Kamchatka Krai experience.

As ever, feedback, comments, bug-reports and general griping are most welcome.

Thanx to the Modder(s) ganf of this FINE Terr.

I have tested it just yesterday. No issues. DL-ed as well the required Add-Ons listed by them, yet already have had some of them in my WOE.

Great job gang! Bravo!

Looking forward for someone, of Wrnch, Gephard et al calibers to create a Modern (Red) China.

Kindly have a look at the recent development of the hightened (Uh! Mispelled, I mean getting high.) tension between the USA and China, at www.globalresearch.ca (click it on my Signature) due to Pentagons'/CIA's and Mr. Obama's new move, to provide Taiwan with the US Patriot missiles.

Thanks for flagging it up. I have now bookmarked

I suspect you will enjoy Red-flyable 2010 Kamchatka Campaign, because, you know, "Cthulhu will rise up from the sea, and kill all humanity but me!"

(Don't tell anyone, but Red-side will be Cultists, and Blue-side will be Russian, American, JASDF & UK ;-) )

@ Raden

Thanks for positive feedback :good:

If you find any problems with this terrain, let me know, I will fix them

As for China vs USA, please wait for full-scale Japan terrain, as posted in this thread. One day, it will happen

No problem mate.

BTW, have u read, just recently (I forgot which Site), that Red China is gearing uo starting this very year to manufacture TEN K hellicopters -- said the r for rescue MSN as China have frequently been struck wit natural disasters (Earth quakes) -- yet, an other reputable Website in the West just few days back, following the Haiti "Big One," that one region in China was struck as well with 6. something Richter Scale earthquake. Due to, according this other reputable Site, atomic weapon testing, detonated DEEP very down under ground! There's a new technology for that!

Re the choppers claimed to be for rescue MSN, I do not buy it! 10K r impressive number! U flooded Ausie with only 2K weaponized choppers, carrying each just 4 SD-10, and some guided bombs -- Ausie will be weeping!

Great idea Balt. I always thought the mountainous terrain of Kamchatka would make a nice background for a north-south air campaign. Kinda like Korea, but shifted over to Kam, maybe a few years later for shiny silver F-100s and MiG-19s, and high altitude Sidewinders.

Lets just say, I love the Kamchatka height field.

question, I got the map working but when I try to take off a carrier, I end up falling through, is there a way the make the carriers solid so I can take off and land on the flight deck instead of the ocean waves?
