Are'nt the Indian SU-30MKI's equipped with Canards ?

The MKI version is equipped with Canards and TVC Nozzles.

Su-30MKI :

Canard Foreplanes:Canards are installed to increase lifting effectiveness and enhance manoeuvrability of the aircraft, They are deflected automatically to ensure controllable flight at high angles-of-attack.

Thrust Vectoring Control: The 2D TVC makes an aircraft highly maneuverable. The aircraft is capable of near-zero airspeed at high angles of attack and dynamic aerobatics in negative speeds up to 200 km/h. Su-30MKI becomes the worlds first TVC equipped operational Fighter.

Su-30MKI_nozzles.jpg

The N011-M Bars phased array Radar is the most powerful Russian Radar on any exported Fighter.

A multi-national Avionics complex sourced from Russia, France,Israel and India which include Display, Navigation, Targeting and Electronic warfare systems.

The Su-30 MKI has a maximum range, with one in-flight refuelling, of 8000 km. The Su-30MK and Su-30MK-1 have a maximum range, with one in-flight refuelling, of 5200 km (35% less than MKI variant).

More than 40 Su-30 MKI aircraft are currently serving in the IAF, and belong to different batches- Mk.1, Mk.2 and Mk.3.

190 Su-30 MKIs, of Mk.3 standards and beyond, are expected to be in service by 2012.

Aerodynamics

Su-30MKI aerodynamic configuration is an unstable longitudinal triplane. The canard increases the aircraft lifting and deflects automatically to allow high angle-of-attack flights.

The integral aerodynamic configuration combined with thrust vectoring results in practically unlimited manoeuvrability and unique taking off and landing characteristics.

The Su-30MKI has no level winged AoA limitations: it can fly at even 180 degree AOA (Angle of attack) and still recover. This high super-agility allows rapid deployment of weapons in any direction as desired by the crew.

The canard notably assists in controlling the aircraft at large angles of attack (AoA) and bringing it to a level flight condition. The wing will have high-lift devices featured as deflecting leading edges and flaperons acting the flaps and ailerons.

Su-30KN: Upgrade for operational two-seat fighters, the Su-27UB, Su-30 and Su-30K.

Su-30MK: The commercial version of Su-30 first revealed in 1993.

Su-30M2: upgraded Su-30MK with canards and TVC.

Su-30MKA: Export version for Algeria

Su-30MKI: Export version for India with TVC, canards.

Su-30MKK: Export version for China

Su-30MK2: Su-30MKK with upgraded electronics that enabled support for antiship missiles

Su-30MK3: Su-30MKK with Zhuk MSE radar and Support for Kh-59MK antiship missile.

Su-30MK2V: Su-30MK2 variant for Vietnam with minor modifications.

Su-30MKM: Export version for Malaysia , The Su-30MKM is an export version that has been ordered by the Royal Malaysian Air Force. This highly specialised version is similar to the MKI, but will principally be equipped with French and Russian avionics. It will feature head-up and multifunction displays from the Thales Group and Sagem of France, as well as the Russian BARS NIIP N011M radar, which is equipped with Indian computers.

Su-30MKV: Export version for Venezuela ,The export version that will serve in Venezuela's air force is most likely to be similar to the Su-30MK2. This is based on the presence of two such demonstrator models (No. 0460 and No. 1259) from the KNAAPO facility that took part in July 2006 national day parade in Caracas.

two things

a question i have is, is there an ETA on these?

and in the way of wars, Ethiopian-Eritrian war of 1998-2000 would be one of the best wars beacause the fulcrums of Eritria were wasted by the flankers of Ethiopia

Man those are beautiful, I cannot wait to fly the 30MK and 33. Excellent work on these Flankers so far Marc, I think you've made me defect to the OPFOR. Of course the MiG-25/7 packages that just came out aren't helping either.

Cant tell you how excited I am about the new flankers. Now all we need is the MIG-31, SU-25, and SU-39 before the OPFOR side is complete!. Keep up the good work macfighter!

Thanks a lot Marcelo...I am thrilled to see a Su-30MKI in SF

In the recently concluded Aero India 2007 show, a Su-30MKI was painted in special scheme to celebrate 75th Anniversary of the IAF.

Marcelo,

Any chance of replicating this bomb loadout on the Su-30MKI(12XFAB-250s)?

Static16.jpg

Sparker,

The air-to surface version of the Brahmos cruise missile for the Su-30MKI has not yet been made. The surface to surface missile is operational with frontline warships of the Indian Navy and some units of the Indian Army.

The Air to surface version of the Brahmos will be much smaller that can be slung under the centerline pylon of the Su-30MKI. The Anti-ship missles used by the IAF on Su-30MKI are Kh-31A2(AS-17 Krypton) and Kh-59M(AS-18 Kazoo).I have got a pic of a Kh-31 being mounted on the wing of a 20 Sqdn Su-30MKI.

I tried but the main pylon was a bit too big for a triple rack. The lower bomb would slip into the runway itself. I'm currently using the twin bombracks and their clearance is fine...

K, maybe not with the Mk82s, anything larger though might be a problem. These shots will give you an idea of the amount of room there is to play with:

Dr.Strangelove eh ?

Well, that's not where I was actually going with it. I just thought the missile was so freaken big that it's almost big enough to have a cockpit to fly it around. And why do I have a warning indicator underneath my ID tag on the left reading 0% but with 5 bars? Did I do something wrong?

negatory, the Warning feature is to only show what warning level you are at. If you are at 0%, then you are in the clear my good man. However, should it progress above that 0%, that means another person who uses these boards... i.e. moderators/admins/members/(i don't believe guests can do that) has reported you or something of like and therefore your warning level starts to increase.. and if I am correct at 100% you get banned from the forums correct? (like an auto-ban by the website forum itself?)

Back to on topic.. Yea I seem to have an unusual fetish with canards.. so I will definitely be enjoying the Su-33 and Su-34.

It would be interesting to see someone with spare time start slapping canards on the F-5, F-16, F-14 (might look a little bit weird)..,F-15 (well technically the F-15 S/MTD or ACTIVE had those but since I believe both were used for only testing purposes of the TVN so... anyway..

My point is.. it would be nice to see some basic aircraft fictionalized, in a sense WITH canards place somewhere on the craft.

But then again this game promotes realism (still fictional definitely= ok with me)
