gbnavy61 Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Always thought the Lanc was the best looking Brit bomber. Quote

Syrinx Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Always thought the Lanc was the best looking Brit bomber. The Halifax is my favourite. The MkIII was the best but I have a soft spot for the MkII & V specials with the faired in noses. Ugly brutes that look like they mean business. Quote
Spinners Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 The Halifax is my favourite. That must be a 'War of the Roses' thing. Let it go girl! I'm not flying props at the moment but I admire your work on these Veltro2K - Keep up the good work. Quote

I never did understand why the Brit bombers didn't have belly turrets for defense. Quote
Syrinx Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I never did understand why the Brit bombers didn't have belly turrets for defense. Mostly a weight saving exercise. Plus it was generally felt by those higher up the chain of command that there wasn't really need of a ventral turret on night ops. The Lanc was originally designed with one though. The Lanc II's operated by 4 Group (before they swapped to the Halifax) were often fitted with the ventral turret or had a Lewis or Vicker's gun able to fire through a hole in the floor. I wonder just how many lives would have been saved if they had kept the ventral turrets. The German's Schrage Musik would have been discovered earlier and that one glaring weakness in RAF bombers could have been negated. What reports of Schrage Musik that were given by debreifed RAF crews were dismissed. This is where the fallacy of the Scarecrow shell was born. It was told to RAF crews that the German's had invented a flak shell that imitated a direct hit on a fully laden bomber. The reality was that what RAF crews were reporting were in fact bombers exploding after being hit by Schrage Musik equipped nightfighters. Sorry to go on a bit but it's one of those questions that provokes a lot of debate due to the impact it had on aircrew safety (relative safety - there was a war on !). Quote
+Veltro2k Posted November 8, 2008 Author Posted November 8, 2008 Sweet ! File now approved ! Thankyou no, thank you Quote
+NeverEnough Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Syrinx's posting about Schrage Musik made me a little curious, so take a look at this link for an interesting chapter in the night air war over Germany. http://www.207squadron.rafinfo.org.uk/wess...hrage_musik.htm Quote
Alexander51 Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Outstanding work Veltro2k! More prop planes for the SFP1 prop-head devotees Quote

Syrinx Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Here's a WIP. Redone the skin with the historical camo pattern. If there's enough call for it I'm going to do a selection of 4 group Halifax sqn's and possibly a Coastal Command version. Still a bit to do, both skin and decal-wise - no ETA cos I'm pretty busy.
