column5 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Fun Javelin fact #1: If you want to fly it realistically, don't engage the afterburners below 20,000 ft. The real plane's fuel pumps could not supply both the engines and afterburner with adequate fuel below that altitude, and so engaging AB actually caused a reduction in thrust over dry power. As the engines became more efficient at higher altitudes, the pumps were able to "catch up" and AB became useful. I wasn't able to model that in the game, but you can simulate it yourselves if you like. ;) Quote

fallenphoenix1986 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Another random Javelin fact that I'm pretty sure I read in airplane monhly a few years ago: if you want long range dont bother with the drop tanks, the addded drag and weight of the tanks resulted in shorter overall range/endurance. Quote

My guess: the tanks are brought back. Quote
Lexx_Luthor Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Better:: If tanks are to be returned safely for re-use, they don't fulfill their ultimate function. This is standard during Peactime. Drop tanks get a bad rap. If the real crunch comes, they will be carried, and used, and...amazingly...dropped. Other planes got a similar deal. McDonnell F3H Demon normally carried one drop tank under belly, the other left behind because together they caused too much drag. I assume the tanks were normally returned for re-use, so only one was carried. If there were no hesitations of sending aircraft off where they might actually need to drop the tanks, say in a shooting war, they will be carried. Or so I'm thinking anyways. No drop tank left behind! Quote
+SkippyBing Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I'd have to check, but were the Javelin's actually drop tanks or were they conformal tanks. The underbelly ones certainly don't look suitable to be jettisoned. Quote

Just thought I'd keep you abreast of such matters. Quote
+comrpnt Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hi folks, thank you! This is a lovely model. I just tried it out on WOV classic (pre-Oct 08 patch) and saw the transparent fuselage skins. Had a look at the 60/Javelin.bmp skin and even tried tweaking the textureset.ini values but still seeing this... I see the original posting has been updated. Have I missed something? (BTW, I've got 1024x768x32/high settings on my laptop's NVidia Quadro NVS 140 video card.) Thanks again. Kind regards, comrpnt. Quote
+Crab_02 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 looks like too many decals on the fuselage. edit out the last two fuselage decals in the decal ini and see if that fixes the problem. ie Decal017 //FilenameFormat=JAVELIN/60/d/eject will have to combine or paint that stuff on - or ask Veltro to make the nose a separate mesh to one can have more decals... +Crab_02 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Glad I could help. Now for getting the warning tris back, perhpaps making a nose roundel with the eject tri on the proper side and make the roundel decal handed, left and right. May need to be resized a bit - in the end will combine the two and will also keep from reaching the dreaded *4 decal per mesh limit*. Quote
Syrinx Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Sorry guys it's all my fault, but strangely I didn't get any transparency when doing the decals or in testing and I'm still using the original decal.ini's:- All I got was some decal bleed from the mesh, that's why there's no eject warning marker for the radar op's position. Not to worry if the transparency problem has been fixed then, that's ok....cheers Crab. Quote
