drinks.gif Bloody mess today, We went on a Recon/Escort with 3 BE2Cs S.W of Cambrai. Over the lines we got hit by 7 albatross D-2s. The melee was a circling zooming mess flights broke up and everyone was slant down to wards the weeds. Everyone taking pot shots as the guns came to bare. They got one of our 5 N-17s left in 60 sgn. He just blew up as he hit the ground in no mans land. as we got lower we got caught in another fight between maybe 5 Airco DH 2 s and 3 or 4 Halbartstads. As we twisted and turned I saw a DH 2 eat it as his engine caught fire.but befor he hit the ground a Halbartstad smack it explording. I did get a few hits on a Albatri as he skided by me followed by one of my wingmates who was catching fire by and Albatri flying behind him. My Lewis clicked empty as I lined up on him so broke right and landed at nearest field. Heard later that we lost 1 BE2c. 2 DH 2s and 3 60 Sgn N-17s Now that leaves just 2 of us. Enemy Losses: 2 Halb 1 Abatri D-2 ?gallery_50835_358_17946.jpg

My bad for not being clear in the write-up (and I can't edit it, as the edit button no longer shows).

We had engaged a flight of FE2b, and BE2's when a flight of enemy scouts showed up. In short order we were all separated and spread out, and a right good fight had developed when a flight of Halberstadts arrived to be fodder for the RFC scouts. I had seen this 'cowboy' from some ways away, doing more than the other AI enemy so I figured something was up. I watched him fly for a couple of seconds and decided in the interests of survival I'd get the heck away before he targeted me. I started to climb away from what was left of the scrap, my machine slightly damaged from the initial engagement with the other enemy machines. I then saw the enemy special fellow get in behind my wingman and start shooting short bursts. Having a bit more altitude, I converted that into speed and swept in behind this fellow who was so busy concentrating on my poor wingman. I must have been within 50 metres when he suddenly pulled up his nose and slowed right down. Luckily I had anticipated correctly and hammered him with a good three second burst, and down he went. Just before he ploughed into the earth I paused the sim and flipped labels on, mainly to see what RFC squadron we'd come up against (as my identification ability is still suspect) and was so surprised when the label read Hawker. The only other ace I've come up against lately was Guynemer and he completely and utterly shredded my pilot. grin.gif

Good job on your first flight, Red- Dog. After some slight problems, I did get up also today, rather than wait until Nov 5. I didn't have the camera, but I survived!

Was? "Schurhaken und Damen" ? What did you want to say, Stump?

I think, it's "Poker and Ladies"?

But we say Poker here in Germany too, for the card game - Schurhaken is just a device

of the same name for keeping an open fire going. Not used for the game here though.

my lovlely pflaz when i fly wiht vascos volunteers

"Poker and women!" That beats "La gloire et les femmes" drinks.gif

There's a New York fire company with the motto: "Mehr Damen dann Flammen!" This was inscribed under a pirated St. Pauli girl holding 3 huge flagons in each hand. We had their patch on the wall in our firehouse. Back when I was a smoke-eater, I always wanted to work there grin.gif

a) more polite: "Poker und Frauen"

Hehehe, "colonial" German on this side of the pond seems to have incorporated direct translations of old American English slang, and to have taken rather English meanings to some of its own words.

Over here, "Frau" invariably means "wife" and "Dame" means "woman" (which is no doubt where 1940s US NY slang "dame" came from). Thus, getting many "Frauen" here means being a serial adulterer, while getting "Damen" means just being your normal rake.

Okay, some more detail here:

Frau = woman (but also wife. Meine Frau = my wife)

Fräulein = unmarried woman

Dame = lady

Weib = old form both for woman and wife, nowadays rather a bit derogative

Mädchen = girl

Stump all you need is a couple sponsorships, Castrol, LFG, AEG, Bosch and Helga's House of Hotcakes. Just kidding of course. Looks like she'ld be fun to fly. Good luck with her.

Okay, this will work, Stump. But to confuse you a bit again (Lol!):

Now it says: My wife and poker

If you weren't married to her yet, you would say: Mein Mädchen und Poker (my girl and poker)

But it makes sense now - your choice. Sorry for confusion.

That is a nice screenshot, Vidken. And that beautiful plane. That one isn't stock "in the game" is it? Did you make that skin?
