Perhaps a bug in the skins? I get Heldmann's skin when trying to select Lothar's for the standard DVII. Can someone verify this?

The markings of Lothar's DVIIs - there were several - are not known. He did write of his "lovely red bird" - a machine with which he claimed two victories on August 8, but wrote off in landing after the fight. His third victory that day - in the chaos of the 'Black Day of the German Army' was claimed while he was flying a machine borrowed from Erich Just. We do know that he was flying Heldmann's machine the day he claimed his 30th victory on 25 July.

At the time we were making the D.VII skins, Makai, Shred and I talked over LvR's D.VII. Because he was known to have borrwed Alois Heldmann's, and well as Just's, we had a hard time choosing. His D.VIIF also need a color scheme, so the red scheme (which is often associated with Hermann Göring's D.VII) was used on the D.VIIF, and I chose to use Alois Heldmann skin for LvR's D.VII adding in the white wheel covers instead of the wire spokes.

We only have 1 choice of paint per plane per ace per year, so it was a tough one. Down the road, if we can link dates to skin changes, you might see LvR fly all of the borrowed skins on all dates, but for now the Jasta 10 borrowed crate will remain. If I can pin down LvR's paint scheme for his D.VII and seperate it from the D.VIIF, I will add them in, but I have nothing on it. :ok:

What I didn't want was the same scheme on the D.VII as well as the D.VIIF... which I know for a fact was not the case with LvR's plane. I just don't know what each one looked like. As many German aces did (Udet, Goring, LvR, some of J18's and J15's aces) once MvR died, many of them either painted the whole fuselage, or a very good part of it in all red. But exactly what LvR flew, I don't know for sure.

Once again, I am boggled at how much research, detail-jockey-ing and historical hair-splitting you guys must go through. The Smithsonian Air Museum should declare the lot of you National Living Treasures and put you on payroll.

It would perhaps be good, before saying "bug", to just ask a question.

So many times I have realised during the development and improvement of BHaH,

that things, that looked like a mistake or even "bug", turned out to have well regarded reasons.

In this case, there was sure a lot of research and thinkwork done, before this decision was made.

We could honour the devs a little more by assuming, that they care about their project, that they did

and do a lot of research about such details, and that they know what they are doing.

THanks guys. We as a group really did try our damnest to get every change and detail in as much as possible. Winder worked with me on many aspects of the German side, including name changes to the Jastas, the change of Jasta grouping to the JG's, especially J15 to J18, which was a tough one for us. But we nailed it. We're glad to see these questions being asked as it shows you guys are finding the little details we put into the game. :good:

Another ace sharing a skin is Kurt Wustoff, once he transfered into Jasta 15, he borrowed Georg Hantlemann's D.VII and was shot down in it. So you'll see him flying it breifly.

From Wikipedia:

"On 16 June, he returned to duty as a pilot in another Prussian squadron, Jagdstaffel 15. He borrowed the fancifully marked Fokker of Georg von Hantlemannn[23] to fly a patrol the following day.[24] He engaged a Royal Air Force group of four SE5's of No. 24 Squadron, three of which were aces, Ian McDonald, Horace Barton, George Johnson, and C. E. Barton, who forced Wüsthoff down in the vicinity of Cachy, France.[25] Wüsthoff was seriously wounded in both legs, taken prisoner, and treated in various French hospitals. He complained bitterly about the adequacy of his treatment."

24 squadron was one you didn't want to meet. Their kill to loss ratio in 1918 is amazing. Johnson survived the war and went on to be an Air Marshal in the RCAF IIRC.

i'm also very amazed of the historically accuracy. one of the very best features in this sim

i have nontheless a question. there are lot of aces with none or just partially killtallies and aces text. aces text is for me not so important, but there are lot of aces who have no killstats at all or where it suddenly says "ace no longer active".

there was e.g. 11. september 1917. no word came about the loss of guynemer. i looked into his profile and there was none at all. this day was even canceled due to weather in the sim.

voss is very long listed with 0 kills. MvR also. in january 1917 MvR has listed 16 kills and then till may nothing happens. then from one day in may to another he has 52 or something.

that's really a very hughe part of historical research and data to add. but nontheless many aces, and even the very best ones are missing.

is this going to be corrected in p4?

if you need a hand for adding the missing files or are lacking people doing it, i could help.
