Battle of Britain terrain for the 60th and 70th

Battle of Britain terrain for the 60th and 70th.

*********************************

This terrain is written for WOE, but should work properly with WOI,WOV and SFP1.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I. Short description:

I made this terrain as a more modern version of my BoB terrain for all guys who want to fight a Battle of Britain scenario with jets. Maybe that you want to fight a France vs UK campaign or a NATO vs WP scenario with France captured by the red side.

The terrain covers South England, the English Channel and Northern France.

The differences to the WW2 BoB terrains are:

1.You will face a SAM fence along the English Channel and a second which is protecting the capital.

2.You will see more modern airfields.

3. An increased number of target areas (274 instead 229)

4. Paris is completly reworked.

5. A french Railwaynetwork is set on the map.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

II. INSTALLATION:

Unzip all files into your Wings over Europe/terrain folder.

Thats it.

Q: What is to do to make it usable for WOI,WOV and SFP1?

For WOI open file Battle of Britain 60.ini with notepad editor

overwrite line

CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat

with

CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat

For WOV open file Battle of Britain 60.ini with notepad editor

overwrite line

CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat

with

CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat

For SFP1 open file Battle of Britain 60.ini with notepad editor

overwrite line

CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat

with

CatFile=..\desert\Idesert.cat

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

III. Credits. I want to say thank you to all guys who helped my to create the BoB terrains

Two questions

Is this the same terrain included in the France VS UK campaign?

and what is there stopping setting up a campaign in modern age with eurofighters VS mig and sukhois and "vichy" Rafales?

It is not the same terrain, it is an improved version.

And of course you could use it for a modern campaign.

At the moment i'm playing with the idea to make a 70the campaign with Phantoms, Mirages, Harriers etc.

So just to clarify Michael..

for the France Vs UK campaign stick to the BOB'60 included

For campaigns in the 70s and beyond use this one?

Reason is that you wrote that for France VS Uk you used a 60s plane set because otherwise the terrain would have required too many modifications.

I am really tempted to make post 2000 battle of englsnd

Eurofighters and tornado VS Fulcrums Flankers Fencers and Frogfoot(s) and "Vichy" Rafale and M2000

Oh and it should be compatible with the forest and trees for Bob terrain that is here on Cace right?

Thanks Michaler, Vielen danke

You make me curious: where can I find this forest & tree mod for BoB, couldn't locate it ....... (probably my fault,

but I'm really in the dark......)blink.gif

Derk , this is the file you need.It was building and trees not forest and farms,, my bad

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=9383

(What follows has been posted in campaign and mission building as well)

Now I ve been looking into movement and target files of BOB70-

My plan to make a Sov. vs UK/nato scenario.

The Story is that a resurgent Soviet empire rushed trough europe, while US is still debating what to to do. Much like WWII

Germany is quickly overrun also because of echonomical reunifiction crisis. some units flee to UK. Some polish and Czech unit fly in UK as well. Fench setup a ollaborationist governemt

OOB

Eurofighters from RAF and Luftwaffe

Polish f-16 B60

Czwck gripens? (wha do they have nowadays?)

Soviet Su-27SM, SU-35BM and SU-24. A few units with SU-30, and SU-25 and 39.

T-72 and soviet soldiers versus UK ground untis,, what?

the OOB is basically done I have units and skins ready.

My only problem is the movement and target files

I want to USE exactly the same campaing setup for the ground war Baltika used. There are some naming issues thoguh which will obviouly affect into the campiang

for example Caen fliegerhost (baltika's bob ) Vs caenCaen Aerodrome de champ (gepard's BOB70).

It is possible to have movement/target ini file in which BOB70's naming coventions are amtching those of baltika's bob?

I think the forest and tree mod for BoB terrain should work with BoB 70 too. I havent changed the tileset, so it should not exist problems with it.

Apart from that, I think that your airbases should be the standard in ANY WOE based terrain....good.gifok.gif

They are brilliant and do give the NATO / WARPAC atmosphere that I miss very much in the standard

airfields, which may represent a couple of big US airbases but are looking rather uneuropean...

I found a small mistake at Lannion airfield. It must be placed 1km further west.

The correct lines are

[TargetArea229]

Name=Lannion Aerodrome de Chase

Position=319000.000000,333000.000000

Sorry. My fault.

By the way, are you interessted in to see individual ports in the kind i had done in Formosa terrain?

Geph, kindly read my Reply to Canadair's post to you re Afghanistan Terrain Beta u made. Congrat to you for this BoB I just DL yesterday.

I've bee wondering how you managed to 'create' such a d---n good, near perfect, realistic Sea and the Waves? Really good ones, exactly like those Seas/Waves in Darwin Modern, and in Timor. I set my game in WOE in HIGH for Sea and Unlimited for Ground Object, and High on Terrain, tho I have only 1.5GB of DDR2 in my lame-duck, two-year old ACER. It works well!

My question is, since Seas (Ah, read my comments to Canadair above) and the WAVES look unrealistic in GermanyCE, is there any way I can, say, IMPORT (copy/paste) the SEA in this BoB 70 to GermanyCE, Formosa, India, IsraelME???

I do not know anything yet about Terrains Editing mate....but I am willing to learn. Thanks a lot.  :salute:

sea files are defined in the texture. Sea1.tga is one of this files. In the tga you have a mask (i hope this is the right translation from german into english)which is used in the game for definition of the areas of the waves (water) this is neccessary for coasts or rivers. Otherwise also the land would have waves.

The other important file is the terrain_data.ini (Battle of Britain 70_data.ini. This file makes the definition of the available tiles for the terrain.

In the header files you find following lines:

[WaterTextureMaterial]

UseEffectShader=TRUE

EffectShaderName=WaterEffect.fx

DepthBufferCheck=TRUE

DepthBufferWrite=FALSE

RenderedInOrder=TRUE

AlphaTestEnabled=TRUE

CullMode=CLOCKWISE

LightEnabled=TRUE

SpecularEnabled=TRUE

EmissiveEnabled=FALSE

FogEnabled=TRUE

AmbientColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

DiffuseColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

SpecularColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

SpecularPower=10.000000

Reflectivity=1.00000

ZBufferOffset=2.000000

BlendOp=BLEND_SRC_ALPHA

NumTextureStages=2

TextureStage[01].TextureName=

TextureStage[01].MipMap=TRUE

TextureStage[01].FilterEnabled=TRUE

TextureStage[01].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_MODULATE_DIFFUSE

TextureStage[01].StageAlphaOp=TEXTURE

TextureStage[02].TextureName=

TextureStage[02].MipMap=TRUE

TextureStage[02].FilterEnabled=TRUE

TextureStage[02].ReflectionMapping=TRUE

TextureStage[02].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_BLEND_TEXTURE_ALPHA

TextureStage[02].StageAlphaOp=DIFFUSE

That all, what is neccessary.

The reason, that the terrain runs well on low end computers is, that my computer itself is an old device.

do you get an error message when it CTDs??? That's important to know, because it usually points to what is causing the failure

She read carefully me once but instantly dust blue screen ,

but it is every time black and standard text now czy to send to Microsoft message.

Lack of number of mistake .I know that this map does not be adapt to WOE2 , I tried to alter tench :

CatFile =..\ GermanyCE \ GermanyCE.cat

on:

CatFile =..\ GermanyCE2 \ GermanyCE2.cat

but also without result.

So as tried to make on map Himalaya and to pass something takigo after the example this map:

[Terrain]

TerrainFullName = Battle of Britain 1970th

DataFile = Battle of Britain 70_data.INI

// CatFile =..\ GermanyCE \ GermanyCE.cat

// CatFile =..\ VietnamSEA \ VietnamSEA.cat

TargetFile = Battle of Britain 70_targets.ini

TargetTypeFile = Battle of Britain 70_types.ini

NationsFile = Battle of Britain 70_nations.ini

BriefingText = Battle of Britain 70_briefing.ini

MovementFile = Battle of Britain 70_movement.INI

DogfightFile = Battle of Britain 70_dogfight.INI

DogfightOnly = FALSE

// Latitude = 50.0

// Longitude = 0.0

[Maps]

FilenameFormat = PlanningMap % d.bmp

Width = 1200000.0

Height = 1200000.0

NumZoomLevels = 3

to remove these rope :

// CatFile =..\ GermanyCE \ GermanyCE.cat

// Latitude = 50.0

// Longitude = 0.0

because without these lini map Himalaya walks me in this game but also black screen.

ok.... I just got through editing some bits in the data ini, and testing it in SF2 (merged, withOUT SF2:I), and had no problems.

this is my main ini:

[Terrain]

TerrainFullName=Battle of Britain 1970s

DataFile=Battle of Britain 70_data.INI

TargetFile=Battle of Britain 70_targets.ini

TargetTypeFile=Battle of Britain 70_types.ini

NationsFile=Battle of Britain 70_nations.ini

BriefingText=Battle of Britain 70_briefing.ini

MovementFile=Battle of Britain 70_movement.INI

DogfightFile=Battle of Britain 70_dogfight.INI

DogfightOnly=FALSE

Latitude=50.0

Longitude=0.0

//LimitedNations=TRUE

CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat

//CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat

//CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat

[Map]

FilenameFormat=PlanningMap%d.bmp

Width=1200000.0

Height=1200000.0

NumZoomLevels=3

[WeatherChance]

ScatteredChance=35

BrokenChance=25

OvercastChance=20

InclementChance=10

I added the weather statement, as that's used in 08 level 1stGEns, and SF2s. Also, for experimentation, used the desert cat pointer; it shouldn't make ANY difference, as all the tiles are included, so you should be able to use any of the 3 cats listed.

Then, in the data ini, I edited the terrain effects statements to SF2 levels:

[NormalTextureMaterial]

//UseEffectShader=TRUE

//EffectShaderName=TerrainEffect.fx

EffectShaderName=terTerrainEffect.fx

[WaterTextureMaterial]

//UseEffectShader=TRUE

//EffectShaderName=WaterEffect.fx

EffectShaderName=terWaterEffect.fx

[backgroundMaterial]

//UseEffectShader=TRUE

//EffectShaderName=FarTerrainEffect.fx

EffectShaderName=terFarTerrainEffect.fx

and don't forget these:

[solidObjectTextureMaterial]

EffectShaderName=terSolidObject.fx

[AlphaObjectTextureMaterial]

EffectShaderName=terAlphaObject.fx

There is no GermanyCE2 cat; it still has it's orignal WoE name, so it HAS to stay the same in the CatPointer statement

try what I've posted, and let us know what happens. Best way would be to create a backup copy of the main and data inis (open, "SAVE AS..." ori-nameofini.ini, THEN edit the original copies. Just copy/paste the data I posted above. If that dosen't work, I'll zip up and post my 2 inis in this thread or via PM

I am the manager of unnecessary confusion probably.

When I installed map and I had blue screen this probably single jump was my kompa .

After I had restarted computer I chose different airplane 128 Here , and because I installed him only just

I forgot altering in TU this -128_DATA tench:

MinBaseSize = LARGE

on lini:

MinBaseSize = MEDIUM

and this was the cause of black screen after choosing Moment 21bis map she fired but she had many mistakes not so as in WOV,

really your setting

to remove the mistakes of rivers and watersides for WOE2.

It thanks for help drinks.gif .

So it works now?

I usually test terrains with 'standard' aircraft like Phantoms, Mig-21MF (My Favorite Fishbed) or planes of that nature, as they can use pretty much any 'size' airfield. I haven't looked over Gepard's targets ini to see if there's any Runway4 (the LARGE one, with the 2 crossing runways -- those are needed for bombers and other Big Birds)

Maybe Michael can be talked into adding a couple, at least one for each side so the Badgers, Bears and B-52s (oh my!) and come out and play, too!

So , many would solve memory about addition to new maps great airports

problems novice users mods , I when first once for WOV

I installed Here -128 looked for cause very long why I have black screen,

and on Here -128 depended me very because this the fascinating airplane and mod of this airplane also

it is splendid.

I after installation this airplane to WOE2 not quickly me reminded about change of suitable line now also.

It near bit of bad luck it how in my case was can was look for problem not there it where was one should ,

really you informed me now that something like this is yet how Runway4

found problem Eiffel Tower bmp missing ..

actually it's not missing, it just never had one; looking into the LOD with a hex editor, shows that NEITHER a tga or bmp is associated with it (meaning, it ain't got no 'skin')

In other words, who ever built it in MAX either applied a material (to sumulate the metal) or just plane forgotted! Haven't seen it myself ... guess I'll have to check it out
