vonOben 55 Posted July 14, 2010 Hi Is it possible to get rid of these graphical errors (white squares) I have in BHaH using a ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card? It usually starts when a plane catch fire and is gone after a short while. Cheers vonOben
+RAVEN 414 Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) Looks Like your missing a Effects .tga file. Edited July 14, 2010 by RAVEN
Rugbyfan1972 1 Posted July 14, 2010 Von Oben, I have an ATI 5870 2gb version, and it also happens on this card as well. Raven if I am missing an effects .tga file please let me know where and how I can get hold of one and where to place it in the BH&H installation. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
Von Paulus 8 Posted July 14, 2010 Hmmm. I don't have it with a 4890.
Panama Red 22 Posted July 14, 2010 Another game that I occasionally play (Combat Series) has reported a simular problem with the newer ATI cards, but it has to do with black squares versus white squares. Since both of these are older games, there may be a either a hardware or software conflict going on. This is why years ago, I learned to keep all my old PC's since all games are designed for certain OS's and video cards (with their drivers) and do not always play well with newer equipment/software. Morris 2 Posted July 14, 2010 I have ATI Asus 5970 in Crossfire without that problem. Im still using 10.4a drivers. Have a look at the drivers you are using. Cheers Morris

Hasse Wind 46 Posted July 14, 2010 Latest ATI driver was said to be faulty, I think. One of the reasons why I'm wary of changing my video card drivers. If everything I play works without problems on the drivers I'm using, it would be too risky to go changing anything. Seems like quality control has gone down the toilet lately - some new nVidia drivers could actually damage their cards.

Cheers Morris Hi Morris I'm using the Catalyst driver 10.3. Could it be some setting in CFS3 config that fixes that problem? What are your Overrides and Texture info settings? Cheers vonOben
Morris 2 Posted July 18, 2010 VonOben, As soon as I get back home later today I will send you the info. Start by changing ur drivers to 10.4a. Cheers. M

vonOben 55 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi Installed Catalyst driver 10.5 a few weeks ago. I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem above with the new driver. I’ve downloaded and installed HiTR and sometimes there are other graphical glitches like this example (weird squares in the terrain): Any ideas what to do? It only happens sometimes, but it would be nice if it’s possible to fix. Cheers vonOben
Von Paulus 8 Posted August 16, 2010 First try to reduce Terrain slider one notch down. It's only happening with OFF? What are the specs of your rig?
+Polovski 460 Posted August 16, 2010 As Von P says reduce settings on terrain and scenery. Looks like memory overload on GPU. Also maybe something in the graphics config (AA settings etc are too high).
BirdDogICT 3 Posted August 17, 2010 As Von P says reduce settings on terrain and scenery. Looks like memory overload on GPU. Also maybe something in the graphics config (AA settings etc are too high). Reducing memory demands is good advice. AA settings are critical: using Super Sample AA will reduce BHaH to a slideshow with the 5770. Much better to choose Multi-Sample AA. FWIW, I'm using a 5770 with Catalyst 10.6 and not having any problems at all in Windows 7 64 bit.
+Polovski 460 Posted August 19, 2010 Could also be things like overheating of GPU or CPU under stress (cool case better), or power pack not good enough (the quality of power, not wattage ) or files / drive corruption. Some of which is gone over in the FAQ
vonOben 55 Posted September 14, 2010 Hi I’ve been out of OFF action for a while. My specs: CPU: AMD Phenom II x2 550BE 3.1 GHz VC: ATI Radeon HD 5770, 1GB GDDR4 4GB RAM Windows XP My CFS3 Config: 1920x1200 and 8 AA Aircraft: 5 Terrain: 4 Scenery: 4 Effects: 5 Clouds: 5 ATI CCC settings: AA mode was on quality (Super-Sample AA) and I turned it down one notch to “Adaptive Multi-sample AA”. But the frame rate was not improved. It’s around 30 as before. And the problem persists. Which of the AA filter settings is recommended for OFF? There are Box, Narrow-tent, Wide-tent and Edge-detect. What are the differences? I’m currently using Edge-detect at Level: 4x Samples:12x I haven’t had this problem with the previous used driver, but I recently installed HiTR. Is HiTR more demanding than BHaH? Cheers vonOben
Panama Red 22 Posted September 14, 2010 To quote Winder in the sticky above: "OFF HitR does demand more GPU memory - if you experience any graphics issues please reduce either your scenery slider one notch or goto workshops and if you can select a lower Ground Object Density... reduce by one...." Olham 164 Posted September 14, 2010 Von Oben, your system specs are better than mine and should be sufficient. (See my screenshots). My graphics slider are: Aircraft: 5 Terrain: 3 Scenery: 2 (this one uses a lot of resources!) Effects: 5 Clouds: 5 My advice: cut down the "Scenery" slider and see, what you get then. My ATI Control Center settings are: - SMOOTHVISION HD AA: 8x (Filter: Box) - SMOOTHVISION HD Anisotropic Filtering: 8x - Catalyst AI: Advanced - Mipmap Detail Level: Quality - Wait for vertical refresh: Quality/Always On - Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Quality - OpenGL Settings: Triple buffering (clicked on)

I’m currently using Edge-detect at Level: 4x Samples:12x For best performance it must be configured for Box Also turn Catalyst AI to "Standard" and you may even try in "Advanced". I've also my Catalyst settings optimized for Performance and not for Quality. Here's an old guide, but it give you an explanation of the Catalyst functions. I also wonder, if with 1920x1200 resolution, one really need the antialiasing on. I haven’t had this problem with the previous used driver, but I recently installed HiTR. I also have a 5770, with CPU running at 3.6. With sliders at 54455, my best performance under demanding conditions (i.e., heavy clouds, on the runway, in giant furrballs, over the front) uses setttings that are very similar to Olham and VonPaulus. Olham's settings are with a 4870, which is slightly faster than then 5770. - SMOOTHVISION HD AA: 2x (Box Filter - 2 samples) - SMOOTHVISION HD Anisotropic Filtering: 4x - Catalyst AI: Standard - Mipmap Detail Level: Quality - Wait for vertical refresh: Always On - Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Quality - OpenGL Settings: Triple buffering (clicked on) I also use D3DOverrider to control VSync and OpenGL Triple Buffering. Catalyst drivers stil don't allow Vsync or Triple Buffering with all versions of Windows/DirectX. If I reduce scenery and terrain sliders, I can bump up the level of AA, but not by much. At a resolution of 1920X1200, you don't need very much AA at all. BTW, Super-sample AA is typically only used in Crossfire.
Von Paulus 8 Posted September 14, 2010 By the way BirdDog, do you know RadeonPro? It seems to replace D3DOverrider besides being also a game profiler. http://www.radeonpro.info/ Very interesting tool.

vonOben 55 Posted September 18, 2010 Hi Thank you very much for your kind help! I've changed my CCC settings to the same as Olham, but I'm unsure about Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Quality. Is that the same as Anti-Aliasing Mode: Adaptive Multi-sample AA? I can't find "Wait for vertical refresh: Always On". Do I need to use the D3DOverrider for that? I didn't change the CFS3 Config since I wanted to test the new CCC settings first. Frame rate increased about 10% after these changes. Thanks for the link to the Tweak Guide, but it seems slightly outdated and it doesn't explain for example the differences between the AA filter settings.
