Formats for Carriers and Warship with the Mission Editor

I remember asking TK about the water bmp when SF2I Exp1 came out, as it was added to IseralME. Never got a real good answer, just "yes, it shows what's water and what's land"

 

I guess we NOW have a definitive answer.

 

Somebody should packaga ALL the new water bmps and inis, and upload them to the Terrains downloads section

 

(still need Libya and a few others...some for terrains as not yet completed. I know what I"m doing today!)

Why do I have feeling that one will be Wrench, The... :tongue:

 

On more serious note, it's allways worth checking CAT files and inis for strange new stuff that seems to have no use... for now. I'm still puzzled by that [xObject010] ObjectDLLName=HelicopterObject entry in one ini file... :rolleyes:

Interesting to note, the stock terrain's main ini calls for a ***_Location.bmp, and only IsrealME has one!!!

wasn't the _Location used to determine which country pilot was shoot down over? I think I recollect TK saying so, there was some issue with many nations on Israel map and some bugs caused by those when it came into determining pilot's status (MIA, captured etc)

The locations thing was made to sort out the AI flights for single missions, Syrian kites starting from Syrian airbases only, Egyptian kites from Egyptian bases and so on.

Only in IsraelME so far because it has more than 2 nations involved inthe action.

 

Or something like that.

Then, theoreticly, one COULD create a locations bmp for those maps with multiple "participants" (DS for the best example, what with all the countries nearby)

 

You'd think there'd be one for GermanyCE, but I guess all the Red forces are considered "WarsawPact", and therefor Soviet???

 

Something to experiment with, along with the terrains nations ini, that determine who is where...as set in the targets ini

Hmm, I just thought about new campaign scenario with Polish military uprising against Soviet domination creating second frontline in the back, lets say set during Martial Law period in Poland (1981-1983)... just thinking out loud

I'm not sure the purpose of locations.bmp is deterimining starting airfields..

Because then I would guess the index of the colormap, for different nations (int the locations.bmp)

would somehow correspond to the nations.ini indexes.

 

But they don't match.. And the sea is black and the lakes are light blue...

 

So it's still a mystery for me :dunno:

Straight in the YourModFolder\Terrains\BlackSea\ folder

don't forget to add the WaterMap callout to BlackSea.INI (also in the same folder)

how can we set a flight based on the same carrier you take off from to appear on the carrier one minute after your own launch. (already tried but no joy til now)

My guess in the seas = black, lakes = blue thing is to make 3 categories--ground units can't go on either, but naval units can only go on black, i.e. blue excludes any surface units.

 

I think the Tomcat title will have to have helos. Whether friendly SH-3s or enemy Kamovs, true naval combat post-Vietnam can't be done without them.

 

BTW, anyone taking bets on whether we'll see AI-controlled Yak-38s from TK for it? We already have friendly carriers from that era, all he needs is one of the Soviet's and we have the potential for a great naval engagement.

OT: me too JM, the recent mess with shadows cast by transparent meshes covered in other threads clearly points to possibility of helos in Tomcat's naval environment.

 

Not sure about the bitmaps colors and such, as Tomcat title is announced to have "new" terrain engine... how different from current is a mistery to me. I hope different, current one is simply old

It seems that whatever you do escort/ other flight which are carriers based never take off from carrier but just "spawn" in the air over your carrier (or their own one)
