Was just a suggestion. The Tomcats could be second hand bought from the US or handed over from irani possession during their "alliance".

yeah i was also looking in this direction. i mean come on if Israel has a own A/C industry, Dhimar and Paran could also have one. atleast for upgrading old Types.

F-20 Tigershark as F-16 replacement?

so first F-5 -->F-20-->late F-16C (or upgrades to F-20)?

This week I will upload the skins I made and use for the Paran Air Force.

Like this one: http://combatace.com/files/file/11088-mercenary-sand-scheme-for-f-16a-tw-model-fictional/

I just need to make the readme's and screenshots.

this is looking like a pretty good project. i am still slowly working my own line of thought but has the Dhimari's trying to standardize as much as possible for maint./logistical reasons. also running a Dhimari Naval Aviation component that is more tech advanced due to smaller size than the AF.  but my ideas are still very much in outline mode as well as finding good fit that is available here rather than at DAT. still some variance as some airframes just wont work well in the desert and a US embargo in the 70s finds other sources of arms. but overall i treat them as similar to the Saudis in ability to purchase and US relations.....

edit: oh and the merc squadrons are actually training units for new aircraft, not "technically" used for combat.  and funded by the royals, not buy your ammo as needed.  thats arcade land IMO, not real life.

Ok, here's a little something:

MiG-15bis, 1954

Fearing crippling strikes vs. their airfields closests to the front, the Parani Air Force started to hastily apply camouflage to their aircraft.

With the release of the Desert 4 terrain I wanted to pick this up again, but I am still undecided of the paint scheme to use for the countries. So I decided to do some color profiles and then we can all get a say before I or anyone does anything. Trying out camo schemes like this is a lot faster than making skins. I can do more and even give the psd file if anybody wants to try something else.

Well, I've always seen Paran as a sort of South Yemen, that is a revolutionnary, if not socialist, country. They do have a fraking red star as an insigna!

They seem like, well, South Yemen. Or Libya when Qaddafi decided to be the new Nasser in 1977 and started bombing stuff and invading his neighbours.

So, in such a setup, I am not at ease with the idea of French planes into Parani inventory: France never sold arms to pro-soviet countries.

I do think that french planes would be better into the Dhimari order of Battle. Just check out the number of "neutral" or pro-western Arab countries that did buy stuff from France. Like every little gulf State, Morocco, Lebanon and so on.

Or:

- One can think about a non continuous timeline. That is each desert war would be in it's own timeline, following a radical takeover of Paran (à la Libyan 1969 coup).

- Perhaps Paran could change roundel and personnality to show somewhere in the seventies the fall of a former neutral regime (à la Baathist Iraq) that could very well have been a French customer into a radical pro-soviet one.

By the way: fictionnal desert map seems inspired by the Gulf Area, like, perhaps, Oman Sultanat. This place was a British sphere of influence. I would say we need a lot more British planes in the earlier decades.

I would love a paran-dhimar improvement mod, with nice skins and smart order of battle.

Good points, but I must say that several countries did buy both Soviet block and French aircraft simultaneously, perhaps most famously Iraq during the 80s but Libya also had both kinds as you pointed out. Personally to me is seems that once Dassault realized the export potential of the Mirages they sold them to just about everybody that was not their direct enemy. Personally I do like the Paran roundel, and besides the mix of French/Soviet equipment gives more variety gameplay wise. This way we can have British/US vs France/Soviet rather than British/US/French vs the same old Soviets. Just my 0.02€. But sure, the storyline can be modded to make it more plausible I think! I'm gonna do a Snake2 scheme for the Mirage F.1 to see how it turns out.

I had several considerations to make when i did my personal enhancement for the Dhimar/Paran scenario:

1.I wanted it to be set in the eighties, much like the Iran-Iraq war, the best timeframe began around 1984.

2.I was limited by my computer being kinda burned out to stock stuff, as mods would reduce FPS harder than graphics (i can play better in a vanilla install with the best graphics than a modded install with lower graphic performance, dont know why). I already have a few DLCs to deal with it.

3.For balance, i intended to keep as many aircraft as possible equipped with decoys and, if possible, ECM for enhanced survivavility

That´s why particular storyline was: Dhimar was some kind of a wealthy secular country, with a largely pro-western population wich could and wanted to afford to spend in the best stuff they could get , while Paran was a poorer country handicapped with social issues wich had to stay on budget, and make do with what they could have to control its own insurgencies, whose goverment just got overthrown with a pro-soviet coup, then used as a proxy to mess with the Dhimaris. Their OrBats would be:

Dhimar: like the IDFAF in Lebanon 82 but changing Bazs for Tomcats. They would have F-14s in Desert camo (either adversary or Iranian livery) along with F-16 Netz, F-4 Kurnass, Kfir C2s, latest model A-4Hs... all in Desert camo

Paran: Mirage5BA (80) and A-7Ps, wich share a nearly identical wraparound camo, along with Omani Hunter FGA.73 (82) would be the remnants of the poor, prowestern Parani air force. MiG-23 MLDs and Tu-22RDs would be a reinforcement against the well equipped Dhimari forces

While constrained by the issues i posted about earlier, it amounts for a great campaign. Parani Hunters get to be the obsolescent-PITA-dogfighter Frescos used to be in earlier campaigns, while a campaign in a Parani Mirage5BA flying past Tomcat and Netz fighters to hit targets is epic. Also, it is nice to have Tomcats in a ground based tactical fighter role, while for everything else in the Dhimari AF, it looks like a more challenging Lebanon war campaign in a fictional setting. Very 80s like

Indeed, but the parani red-star sounds for me so much soviet/commie that it means: pro-soviet country.

Iraq, well, was a "non-aligned" country that bought weapons from everybody... and everybody wanted to sell some, hoping to be the new protector.

Libya... it was back in the early 70's, before Qaddafi went to radical. He then became a direct ennemy, see Opération Epervier in Chad. Hence my scenario proposal: some sort of radical coup in Paran in the late 1960's, then a radicalization or the choice of Soviet alliance in the late 1970's. Therefore some french planes, but not too realistic ones, would be realistic along with soviet ones.

What would be great is too have both side flyable : your F1 is so lovely!
